3.5 Cans from Craft Beer Cellar, 8-29-2017
3.7 12 oz can purchased as a single at Hyde Park Wine and Spirits in Cincinnati, Ohio. Freshest by 12/1/17 stamped on bottom of can. The pour is a clear orange golden with a well formed and lasting off white head. Nice lace. The aroma is fresh leafy grassy hops, along with medicinal and some straw. The taste is the fresh wet hop, leaf grass, picks up nice citrus and finishes with the straw. The palate is medium bodied with soft natural carbonation and a resin leaf mineral finish.
3.4 Labelled as the peak hop harvest version, poured from brown bottle into schooner glass. Deep orange amber colour, chill haze, no foam. Malty and burnt caramel base with a heavy dose of ambiguous-varietal, super-alpha hops definitely dominated the overall impression. Slightly coarse hoppy bitterness and flavour, but better aroma, just like most New World hops-forward brews. Dank weedy resin, musky, grapefruit rind, black currant, pine sap. Reminds me of pretty much every early-to-mid 90’s microbrewery flagship IPA. If you’re like me and maybe a handful of past and present gluttons for punishment who actually miss Abita Jockamo IPA and the like, this will hit your spot. Decent and drinkable, pretty good actually if you’re in the mood, but unmemorable. Light-medium body, strong carbonation, lingering bittersweet aftertaste. Good not great.
3.7 Caramel color with a white head. Wonderful fresh hop aroma, with resinous and earthy character.
3.8 Pours copper in color and translucent with a nice 1-2 finger white head with an aroma of pine and citrus. Tastes of malt, grass and hops with mild bitterness. It's frothy yet light bodied with little carbonation.
3.6 On tap at GABF 16'. Pours a hazy orange gold with frothy off white head. The aroma is citrus and pine. Medium body, grass, grapefruit, lingering bitterness, very good.
2.6 Pours a clear deep gold color. White head that lasts the whole beer. Minimal lacing. A kind of bright airy like aroma. I mostly just taste aggressive grassy hop flavor. Grapefruit like bitterness.
3.9 Pours a rust orange with white head. A malt and hop aroma. A citrus, sweet malt, hop, pine and grain taste. A sweet malt and bitter hop afteraste.
4.0 Golden yellow with a nice white head. Nice citrus notes on taste with a good aroma.
3.6 pours clear amber with white fluffy head that last quite a while. the aroma is strong in grapefruit, citrus, bubblegum, resin, and some medicine. The flavor is caramel, with hints of plum, with lots of citrus, grapefruit, resin, some pine, and grassy flavors. the palate, is medium with an after taste of hops and bitterness. overall very tasty and would buy again.
3.7 Bottle in Seattle. Thanks Andrew! Creamy white soapy foam. Rich golden orange, clear. Dark resinous pine hops, heavy earthy character with lots of rich honey. A nice change from the PNW/West Coast profile I’m used to. Clean, earthy, resin. Bitter honey. Reminds me of Hopslam. Andrew has it right: redvines. Cherry skin, a little alcohol. Nice.
3.4 12 oz bottle poured, with thanks to Eugene for the bottle. A bright, glowing clear orange pour with a rocky foam head. A unique aroma pinhole, and a bit soapy. This has a sweetness to it, that reminds me of red vines. Funny, but not bad. Cool, and refreshing. A different take on the IPA that I’m used to, which is nice. A fun beer. Pretty good stuff.
3.3 I poured it from the bottle into a mug. It pours copper with a white head. The aroma was hops and slightly spoiled fruit. The taste was hops and grapefruit. It was nicely carbonated and crisp. This is a pretty good IPA.
3.6 amber color; citrusy hop aroma with light pine notes; nice citrusy hop flavor with pine notes; resiny, piney hops
3.6 12oz bottle. Slightly cloudy golden yellow with soapy head. Big grapefruit nose with some piney notes. Juicy and resinous, slight bitter finish. Medium bodied. Quite nice.
3.9 Light carb, little head, bottle pour. Juicy nose. Good bite. Pretty solid beer.
3.6 Can. Pours clear amber. Aroma is grapefruit, citrus peel, toasted and caramel malts, and faint pine. Flavor is crisp and dry with nice citrus hop bitterness, dry toasted malts, and piney finish. Medium body.
3.7 Can from the brewery. Pours clear golden amber with a fizzy off white head. Tastes like grapefruit hops, caramel malt, some resin, and some pine. Medium body and low/medium carbonation. Smells like grapefruit hops, pine, resin, and caramel malt.
1.7 Strong caramel and grass in the nose. Light toffee, almost butter. Does not make me want to drink. Lightly hazy. Nose gets worse with warming. Skunky. Taste isn’t anywhere near an IPA. Sweet. Caramel. Gross. No bitterness. Drainpour.
4.1 Poured a clear topaz color with a small amount of bubbly head. The smell is all dank hops, juicy citrus, pine, and a slight bit of malt. The flavor follows suit as you get tons of grapefruit, tangerine, and floral bitterness before the bready finish. Always enjoy a good harvest IPA.
3.4 Bottle. Kroger. Pours crystal clear golden with a small off white head. Aroma of citrus hops, watermelon?, light floral hops. Tasty somewhat sweet tropical fruit hops, lemon zest, pine. Good.
4.0 This was poured into a becher pint glass. The appearance was a golden burnt yellow color with a quickly dissipating finger’s worth of white foamy head. Solid sticky lace. The aroma starts with citrus hoppy oils and tropical fruity sweetness. Super underscore of malts. The flavor brings the hoppy bitter oils to cross the tropical sticky fruitiness to blend nicely together and slide into the aftertaste and right on into the finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a nice sessionable hop slick feel to it. The oiliness from the hops really impart a nice wet feel to it. Overall, now that’s a really nice fresh wet hopped AIPA
3.9 Bottle acquired in a trade. Grassy, bitter, fruity, lychees, very lovely indeed.
3.3 Sample on tap @ the brewery. Pours a deep golden amber with a foamy white head. Nice citrus aroma. Nice crisp taste with a little bitterness. Smooth finish. Not too harsh. OK
3.7 Kraftwork, Philadelphia tap: copper with a white head. Aroma is resinous pine. Taste is kind of bitter. Lightly oily. Easy to drink at the same time. Pretty dank.
3.8 Clear amber with thin white head. Lovely aromas of citrus, piney hops, some pineapple. I’m getting a mouthful of hops, tropical fruits. Light to medium body. A delicious west-coast style iPA.
4.6 Tröegs Hop Knife Harvest Ale has a thin, white head, a clear, bubbly, amber appearance, and fairly heavy lacing left on the glass. The aroma is of pine resin hop oils, some apricot (?), and mellow malt. Taste is of those elements, with pronounced and impressive oily hop bitterness. Mouthfeel is light to medium, and Hop Knife finishes bitter and on the dry side. RTJ
3.8 Clear golden yellow pour. White head. Citrusy resinous aroma. Taste is medium high bitterness. Very much west coast and clean.
3.4 Bottle on the deck. Pours clear amber with off white foamy head. Slight grapefruit and earthy nose. Medium bodied. Real dry earth herbal hop profile. Fall beer for sure but for loving hops, this isn't dank or fruity enough for me. Too much earth to be drinking multiples of
4.2 DATE: August 18, 2016... OCCASION: Toasting the last night of Camp--six years of solid summers with the boys... GLASSWARE: Barley Creek pint... medium amber body, crystal clear, with a soft yet lively effervescence... a creamy, slightly, nearly two-finger off-white head that creates a cloud-like horizon... strong, alluring pine and resin with the grapefruit, stone fruit and spiciness expected of an IPA.... full-bodied, with a crunchy bite at the teeth... smooth, almost creamy through the mouth... the finish is slightly sweet, with lasting impact of resin... among the flavors include resin, pine, spicy notes of pepper and paprika, powerful citrus--orange peel, grapefruit, and mango--and a reasonable amount of caramel malts that balance the beer with sensibility... overall, another Troegs victory, with a pile of hops sitting pretty under only 6.2% ABV... drinkable, rewarding and robust...
