Tröegs Nimble Giant

Tröegs Nimble Giant

We didn’t set out to release another double IPA, but when we tasted this hop combination, we latched on and didn’t let go. It started as an experiment with mosaic hops, and after six scratch batches it became Nimble Giant. The layers of Mosaic, Azacca, and Simcoe hops take over your senses. Mango, tropical fruit and creamsicle notes give the beer a silky, juicy underbelly that builds to a punch in the face grapefruit rind, honeysuckle and pineapple.

3.7 16-ounce can pours clear orange-gold with a 3/4 -inch thick creamy beige head and residual lacing; lots of visible carbonation rising in glass. Aroma: fragrant yet subdued floral and citrus. Flavor: grapefruit, orange, pine, caramel, toast. Mouthfeel: full-bodied with an oily finish.
2.0 I used to love Troegs. When I moved to Harrisburg in 1995, I considered I was blessed with a local craft brewery. I'm a IPA guy and a true Hop Head. This year's Nimble Giant is over rated and way over priced. It pours clear with a nice head. It has the usual back flavors of an IPA and at 9% the ABV is not overpowering. But for $75 a case it is way overpriced for an AVERAGE IPA.
3.7 8 ounce half pour on tap at the cheese bar @ Whole Foods-Fairfax, VA. An old school West Coast leaning DIPA. Good to get a quick break from all the hazy and juicy IPAs I've been sampling lately. Hop blend is nice. Little bit of malt to balance out. Has a clear gold appearance. I think they brew some better tasting IPAs....but for this strength I'd sample again for sure.
3.8 Lots of fruits with a bold flavor and a nice bitter finish. This is one very good beer. Well done!
3.7 Bottle. Pours a hazy golden orange with a thick lacy white head. Aroma of pine, citrus, orange and had tropical notes. Flavor of pale malts, piney hops, citrus, grapefruit, tropical fruit and some light caramel.
3.9 7 oct 2018, can. Gold, faintly hazy, occasional bubbles. Nose is sweet, malty, grassy hops. Mead body and moderately fizzy. Sweet breads malt and dominant grassy hops. Nice.
3.8 2018/09/13 - Pours a hazy orange straw colour with a thick, foamy off white head that slowly reduces and leaves moderate lacing. Aroma is lots of Justice citrus (grapefruit, orange), hints of melon, bready malt, light caramel, earthy notes and pine. Taste is juicy grapefruit, orange, melon, bready-biscuit malt, pine and earthy hops. Mouthfeel is medium and oily with biting carbonation and a resinous, drying finish. Nice stuff.
4.0 on tap at Bailey's in Levittown - clear golden color. Nice tropical hop aroma. Good citrus hop flavor. Pretty much lives up to the hype.
1.2 Tap at Patrick's pub on the moon. Surprisingly neutral smell. Slight haze on a pale. Taste is big nasty IPA, what else? All the way to IPA. So rude, so nasty. Terribly on style mah fah. Bitchen bastard thick mouth coating viscous feel in the end.
4.1 Very full, hoppy aroma with a bit of citrus. The flavors are smooth citrus zest, mango, resin. It then gets a hops and bitter grapefruit finish. Nice, and you wouldn't know it's 9% abv.

3.8 Pour is a hazy orange with a large white head. Aroma is oranges, honeydew and mangoes. Very fruity. Flavor is again some tropical fruit with a bit of bitter orange peel. Finish leaves a little bitterness on the tongue but not anything over the top. This beer goes to show that you can make a fruity IPA without making it look like juice. A well done fruit bomb with no alcohol showing.
3.9 Very decent DIPA. Good color good hop profile. Too bad it’s not available all year.
3.9 On tap at Cask Republic - New Haven, pours a clear copper golden with a small white head. Aroma brings out fresh piney hops, some citrus and crisp biscuity malt. Flavour is bold, with fresh piney hops, lots of hop resins, and a lightly sweet biscuity malt base. Oily palate with lots of depth. A great old school IIPA here.
3.9 Can from Bradley Food & Beverage in Bethesda. Great appearance, crystal clear bright copper with a lacy white head. Aroma is nice, orange, floral hops, tropical notes. The flavor is nice, smooth, balanced, medium sweet, tropical fruits, medium bitterness. Medium plus body, nice carbonation. Solid offering from my homeboys as always.
3.7 On tap at Old Towne Pub in Bordentown, NJ. Copper color and nice happy aroma and flavor. Well balanced.
2.8 Meh. Average at best. Nothing special. The aroma is clouded. Taste is blah.
4.2 12 oz. on tap at Federal, Durham. Amber with a spotty creamy head. Crisp nose of citrus fruit mix with the zest, resin and a touch of caramel. Flavor is the same with a touch of pine resin and a bit of toast. Smooth medium body with medium carbonation and a dangerously drinkable balance.
4.4 6/7/18 With A after she finally got back home. About to watch Westworld. Deep orange with a moderate sticky head. Nose is dank citrus. Taste is big bitter dank hops. Pine and citrus. Lots of bitterness but a good bit of malt as well. Crazy hoppy but balanced. Palate is very big and chewy. Dank pine lingers. Overall, a phenomenal beer! Reminds me a lot of Heady Topper but a touch less assertive. One of the best DIPA’s I’ve had.
3.8 Can shared at Lucky Bamboo share. Lots of big dank, resinous pink and weed-like aromas. Caramel, pine and more dank notes all over the palate. Very beer-like and very enjoyable. Lingering piney bitterness with dank weed flavors.
3.9 Can. Moderate roasted grain for the malt, heavy pine for the hops, light soap and dough for the yeast, with medicine and some dried fruit in the background. Head is small, frothy, white, with good lacing and is mostly lasting. Color is slightly hazy medium amber. Flavor starts lightly to moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes moderately sweet and heavily bitter. Palate is medium, oily, with a soft to lively carbonation and a lightly astringent finish. A big and bold DIPA with the hops way out in front of the malt.
4.1 Draft at brewery. Pours golden with a white head. Leaves some lacing in the glass. Nice notes of melon and citrus on the nose and tongue. Hides it’s booze well. Finished clean. Nice.
3.4 Pours a dark amber from a can, thick white head with some lacing. Juicy, thin, somewhat bitter. Rather sweet. Hoo boy that 9% hits you though after a couple.
4.1 Aroma: citrus and pine, mango. Appearance: cloudy golden color and creamy head. Taste: medium pine bitterness, tropical fruits, mango, pineapple, nice malty backbone. Palate: medium body and medium carbonation. Overall: extremely drinkable, very tasty.
4.0 Clear orange yellow pour with a creamy white head and sticky lacing. Aroma of grapefruit, pine, and tropical fruits. Melon, pineapple, and grapefruit flavors dominate with hint of pine. Really nice beer.
4.1 Double IPA with azacca, mosaic and simcoe hops. Boasts grapefruit rind, pineapple and honeysuckle notes. The pineapple stands out and leaves a sweet note.
4.0 Can from Bruisin' Ales. Pours clear, brilliant gold with a transient white head. Aroma is tropical suggesting dankness. Med ++ body. Flavor is somewhat dankish fruit - tropical and citrus. Somewhat roasty malt is detectable. With repeated quaffs lots of things suggest themselves - including grapefruit zest and pineapple. There are so many flavor components I suspect anything might be found. It's very good ale.
3.5 Cans from Hop, Cask, & Barrel, 7-18-17
4.1 Where: Old Line Fine Wine Spirits & Bistro. How: Pint pour on tap. Appearance is dirty yellow color with an inch of frothy head, minimal lacing. Aroma of grapefruit, pineapple, and some floral hops. Taste is melon, pineapple, and grapefruit, floral and dank hop notes. Palate is mild, heavy body with lots of carbonation. Overall a top notch beer, no surprise. Very drinkable!
