3.5 A nice, solid version of the style. I’ve never been too terribly partial to dry stouts, but this one is pretty flavorful. Big chocolate notes are balanced by a very dry finish, with just a trace of roastiness in there. I tend to agree with a lot of other raters, that this brew would benefit from a thicker feel. But as is it’s well worth keeping on hand.
3.9 Bottle courtesy of Mabel. Black body with a big creamy brown head and decent lacing on the glass. (4+) Sweet mocha aroma with light notes of chocolate and coffee and hints of moderate roast. (7+) Fairly dry bitterness in the flavour is less sweet than I expected from the aroma. Sweet mocha and malt in the middle gives way to a lingering roasty dry chocolate in the finish/ (7+). Smooth palate is creamy and smooth but not as full bodied as I’d like. (3+) A very solid stout. 4+/7+/3+/7+/15-16
3.6 Bottle courtesy of dirty_martini. Thanks! Pours an opaque blackish brown with a thin tan head. Aroma of molasses, vanilla. Creamy medium body and light carbonation. The taste is chocolate, coffee and smoke. Dry pine and espresso finish,
3.6 Bottle: Black in color, very little light on the edges, large fluffy beige head, clumpy lacing.   Lactose laced roasted malt sweetness on the nose.   Some pale fruit skin as well.   Very subtle cocoa and bittersweet bakers chocolate on the tongue.   Backside is quite roasty, with minor campfire.   Mild bitterness throughout.   Finish is quite dry, with lingering bakers cocoa, lactose sweetness, and even a bit of charred wood.   A little thin on the body and mouthfeel, at least not as big as I would have hoped.   Still fairly decent tho.   Thanks Nick!
3.3 Thanks Wallace. Pj said it reminded him of a cold winter morning in starbucks. This stout was pleasurable on multiple levels.
3.4 Black colour with a dense light brown head. Roasted malty aroma with a sweet light fruity note. Malty and fruity flavor with a coffee bitterness and a dry roasted finish.
3.5 (Bottle 35,5 cl) Pours a clear, dark brown with a reddish hue and a delicious, creamy, beige head leaving laces. Aroma of lightly burned malt. The body is medium with very dry, burned malty notes and a touch of coffee. Ends dry also. Courtesy of xproudfoot. 120207
3.6 Bottle. Clear red brown coloured with a beige head. Light roasted aroma of overriped fruits and hops. Roasted flavour of coffee, chocolate, liquorice and hops.
3.7 Bottled. Reddish brown coloured. Dense brown head. Roast, light sweetness and grassy aroma. Flavour of herbal roast, chocolate and light liqourice. Is medium bodied and dry. Herbal light roast bitterness in the end.
3.4 Bottled. A deep red beer with a brown head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of caramel, hops, and coffee. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of roasted malt, as well as lighter notes of alcohol and grapefruit, leading to a dry roasted end with notes of oatmeal lingering around. The body is a bit on the thin side inspite of the 6.8% ABV and the oatmeal.
3.7 Nearly black color with a small head. Aroma of dark roasted malts and coffee. Also some oats and a slight grassy hop background. Taste is more nutty, with coffee and chocolate base. Heavy to medium body. Medium dry finish.
3.5 12oz bottle via trade with MrBendo. Aroma: Roasted grain, chocolate, vanilla, cream, coffee, pine and resin. Appearance: Black in color. Head was medium beige in color and was full and frothy with great retention. Great lacing. Flavor: Roasted nuts, coffee, chocolate, smoke, and a touch of dark fruits. Pine, resin, and light grass into the finish. Medium-light bitterness. Finishes fairly dry. Palate: Medium-light bodied. Medium carbonation. Overall: Another good brew from Troegs. Liked the roasted grains here. Smooth and drinkable.
3.5 Pours pitch black in the glass with a thin ivory head. Lots of lacing. Smells grainy and creamy, hints of sweet coffee. Taste is grainy and robust. Bitingly bitter followed by a creamy sweetness from the oatmeal. Long roasty aftertaste. Mouth is very carbonated which masks alot of the creaminess and roasty flavor which is a shame. A bit less carbonation and this beer would be a great one. As it is it’s an above average and quite drinkable oatmeal stout.
3.6 12 oz thanks to my SS! Pours black with a small tan fizzy head that fades without any lacing. Sweet coffee roast aromas a little uncomplicated and flat but not bad nonetheless. Fizzy sweet chocolate roasted flavors and a bitter coffee roast finish. Tasty.
3.5 Poured from 12 oz. bottle. Color is a very dark mahogany with a little ruby. A light brown head. Roasty malt aroma. Hop bitterness up front, followed by a robust malty backbone. The bitterness of the hops leaves a dry aftertaste.
4.1 Bottle from trade with AxlLives. Thanks Bryan! Pours a rich black color with a small tan head that leaves some nice lacing. Aroma of roasted coffee and drk chocolate. The stout has a very smooth crreamy mouthfeel without any bitterness. The taste is exceptionally balanced and no one flavor is over the top. Finishes with a roasted malt touch. Very nice.
3.5 Bottle, from trade with zathrus13. Good aroma. Sweet & malty. That milkiness that oats give to it. Malted chocolate,Vanilla, and when cold a pine that faded as it warmed. Dark orangy brown color, small head that faded moderately. Minor lace. Bitter flavor, totally loses the good part of the aroma. Turns sharp & roasty.A viney/grapiness takes over. Lite chocolate remains. Medium body, creamy smooth mouthfeel, Bitterdry finish. Good, aroma gave me higher hopes than the flavor delivered. Too viney for my preference in Oatmeal stout. Thanks zathrus13. After reading the commercial description I can get the black current that they were going for, I’m just not diggin it.
4.0 Dark, dark, brown with a small tan lacing around the sides of the glass. Aroma: bursting with roasted malts, cocoa and vanilla. The flavor is filled with vanilla and even has a really nice nuttiness to it. I’m particularly fond of the full, chewy mouthfeel.
3.8 Very dark brown pour, with a creamy, lasting tan head - aroma of coffee and cream, hot cocoa, a bit of vanilla, and background plum hints - smooth mouthfeel, medium body - drier than most sweet stouts, with quite a potent espresso bitterness to it - cocoa and chocolate pudding come later, along with a hint of toffee - semi-dry, moderately bitter finish - quite nice.
3.6 12 oz bottle via AxlLives(thanks!). Pours a near black w a large tan head. Nose is sweet oats, lactose, vanilla, coffee. Taste is the same w some added vanilla, hops and soy in the finish.
3.7 12 oz bottle.."deepest caramel on the pour"-quotes the whore...you can see it...yeah its gonna be a creamy one....hops on the aroma(possibly dry hopped?)...ahhh creamy as anticipated...coats the mouth like a blanket created from pure stout...its almost hard to discern the flavor when so in awe by the palate...but I do get a clean nice chocolate malt resonance and a slightly dry finish...
3.8 Pours almost black with a dark tan head which gives decent lacing. The aroma has creamy chocolate and a good amount of roasted malt - very rich and smooth. Medium / thick body that is quite smooth along with a large amount of carbonation. The taste starts with chocolate malt and spicy hops - creamy then spritzy. The finish has more spicy hops and a good amount of charred malt. Very nice oatmeal stout.
3.8 Thanks to MrBendo for this. Pours a deep dark brown with a faint tan head. Aroma and flavor of coca and coffee with a touch of hops. Feels creamy to the palate but also has a crisp dry finish. Very nice.
3.9 In the bottle. Pours black with a thick beige head. The head subsides rather rapidly. The aroma is distinctive- Liquid Tootsie Rolls! Orange, chocolate and caramel. The taste is sweet, then tart, then chocolate. This is a great stout. Has a residual roasted coffee flavor at the end. Yummy.
3.4 Aroma,a little coffee with some maltyness.Pours dark brown with a tan head.Slight bitter chocolate taste.Kind of thin with a bitter finish.
4.1 Gift from MrBendo! 12oz bottle. Very dark opaque brown. Milk chocolate colored very head foam. nutty, coffee aroma to it. lots of cocoa in the nose. sweet expresso front, ends in a rich coffee starbucks finish. Very nutty palate. And dry as well. what a great gift. there is enough complexity here in this bottle.
3.2 12 oz bottle by way of trade from AxlLives. Thanks Bryan! -- Tröegs Oatmeal Stout is dark brown in color with a reddish hue to it. Moderate amount of carbonation with a fluffy brown head and decnt lacing. Aroma is lacking; all I smell is yeast and some very faint chocolate. The flavor is fruity (odd) with some choclate in there. This beer finishes slightly dry with flavors of cocoa, light char, and some lingering nuttiness. A little alcohol comes out just before the finish. It has an average body and is pretty smooth on the palate. -- I was so exciting to finally get my hands on a bottle of this to try, but was disappointed. The Tröegs Oatmeal Stout isn’t nearly as good as the Nimbus Oatmeal Stout that I just finished drinking.
3.5 Poured a dark, dark brown with a cascade, albeit a quick cascade. Muddy aroma. Moderate lacing as I drink. Sweet and toasty at the same time. Sweet yet dry at the same time. Dark, bitter chocolate is the primary element, I’d say. Not bad.
3.5 Pours a dark brown with a somewhat fizzy tan head. Chocolate, some coffee and some roasted malts. The flavor has a roasty, smokiness...a bit of sweetness and a bit of bitter/sour coffee. The body is pretty full, though a bit too much carbonation seems to take away some of the richness...somewhat dry bitter finish. Overall not a bad stout by any means, my only complaints lie in the body of this super-carbonated stout.
3.6 Pours a mahogany brown color with a thick carbonated beige head. Aroma is cocoa, faint coffee beans, and roasted dry malts. Taste is dry with hints of cocoa, oats and roasted malts. Very good.
