Tröegs Troegenator Doublebock

Tröegs Troegenator Doublebock

For periods of fasting without solid foods, Monastic brewers relied on the double bock; a stronger, richer beer to fulfill their basic nutritional needs. Known to them as liquid bread, a double bock has a strong malt aroma and chewy rich body. In the spirited tradition of naming a double bock in the suffix ator, we give you Troegenator to provide warmth and richness through the early spring months.

4.0 Clear deep amber with no head. Lots of dark toasty notes on the nose with a boozy copper malt and German Munich. Smooth malty rich flavor that’s Munich-y and crisp and full and biscuity. Nice and strong and malty and smooth.
3.5 Bottle from Jungle Jim’s passing through OH with the girls enjoyed while doing my July bid. Nice chestnut color with ruby highlights and a khaki ring. Light aroma of sweet caramel malt. The flavor starts sweet, then a hint of hop bitterness and finishes a little boozy. Fairly classic and enjoyable dopplebock.
3.2 Bottle. A- Raisin bread. A- Brown color, dark liquid, tan head. T- Brown sugar, raisins, fruit cake, brown sugar. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, slightly sweet finish. O- Pretty good doppel all around. One of the more balanced one's I've had in a while. A little old but it really helped curb the boozy bite that it probably had fresh.
0.5 Horrible
4.2 Bottle poured into a pint glass. Pretty amber color with a decent head. Not a lot of aroma. Very malty with caramel and a bit of tobacco taste. A little boozy. Really tasty! Something to seek out next time I’m in PA; wish I’d brought more home with me.

3.9 Ruby-mahogany with thin head. Sweet aroma of caramel and toffee with hints of vanilla. Taste a little sweet with similar tasting notes to the aroma. Mild hop. Slick mouthfeel. Tastes more like a Belgian triple. Nice.
3.9 Bottle. Pours a dark brown color with small beige head. Aroma of caramel malt. Quite sweet with just a touch of hops to balance. Enjoyable.
4.1 Pours cherry-red, dark brown with dense mocha head. Aroma: caramel, whole-wheat bread, some hop, sourish, red currant, spicy. Tastes quite syrupy and creamy but not too sweet: dark roasted caramel, dried plums, fruity hops as well, some vanilla. Soft carbonation, excellent MF. Well made, excellently balanced array of tastes.

3.7 carico quasi limpida buona schiuma buona nota maltata frutta matura uvetta frutta secca caramello discreto etilico amaro contenuto un po di cioccolato
2.3 Pours reddish brown with a thick brown head. Aroma is of weak malt and sweetener. Taste is earthy, has some grass and floral notes to it. Palate is much of the same, contains woody notes that are fairly heavy for the style. Ok beer.
3.7 Can. Clear amber red beer with a small white head. Aroma is malty with notes of bread, herbs, grass, honey and syrup. Flavor is malty with notes of caramel, bread, herbs, hay and toffee. Well balanced.
3.5 I'm not a Bock fan so... One once in a while.
3.3 Found out of bottle from Ingles in Franklin, NC. Clear dark copper with no foam. Nice malt aroma and a good malt bite. Pretty enjoyable Fall option.

3.7 Troegs version of Celebrator. Little heavier in strength and less malt maybe. Flavor of caramel, bread, mild hops, and yeast. Semi-cloudy light to medium brown appearance. Decent texture and feel. A little bit of fruitiness in the aroma. Good representation of the style.
4.5 A very nice go to dopplebock when faced with an overwhelming selection. At Liberty Street ale house it is my go to brew. A very appealing brew and great representative of the style.

4.3 Pours amber, translucent with a nice frothy 2-finger light tan, off white head with an aroma of malt and caramel with a hint of booze. Tastes of rich amber malt with some caramel character and some alcohol. The hops are there but they get lost in and blend well with the malt. It’s medium to full bodied with minimal carbonation.
3.8 Bottle. Pours a clear ruby brown with a sturdy off-white head. Aromas of caramel, toffee and dark fruit. Flavors are caramel, toffee, dark fruit, raisin, cocoa, spice and earthy hops. Rich and malty. Noticeable alcohol warmth. Fairly clean mouthfeel. Nicely done.
4.4 1/5/18 With A before watching “Gifted.” Finished week 1 of surgery rotation today. From bottle. Gorgeous deep brown with a thin khaki head. Cool label and name too! Nose is big chocolate malt with some cherry. Taste is more chocolate and cherry up front with a huge roasted malt presence. Not bitter and only mildly sweet. Delicious. Sticky, medium body with a lingering toasty chocolate finish. Not much carbonation. Really drinkable. Overall, this is awesome!! Easily among my favorite non-IPA beers and one of my favorites overall I think. 11/4/18 Did a vertical with one leftover from HX conference last year and one I bought yesterday. First ever vertical beer tasting and really interesting. The 2017 bottle was dense and intense with deep & dark cherry flavors complimenting the chocolate. Felt very heavy and more ester-y than the new bottle. Comparatively, 2018 was much fluffier and crisp with the lagery malt flavors being much more prominent. Overall, the differences weren't huge but were definitely present and I gotta say that this bad boy gets even better with a year on it!
