3.9Pours a clear, deep mahogany coloration with a ruby tint when held up to the light and a huge, creamy, lasting head leaving thick wisps of lace as it slowly fades. Smells of caramel malt, candi sugar and lighter chocolate and coffee aromas, as well as just a hint of estery spice. Taste is a good balance of slightly grainy, bready, caramel malt, candi sugar, dark, estery fruit with notes of raisin, plum and a hint of banana, lighter estery spice with notes of clove and a hint of vanilla and just a hint of chocolate, coffee and herbal hops. Finishes bittersweet, with a very light bitterness and some candi sugar, dark fruit and estery spice lingering in the aftertaste. Full mouthfeel with a medium/rich body and medium carbonation.
This really feels more than a Belgian Strong Dark Ale than a Stout, although perhaps it is intended as a mix of the two and certainly makes for intriguing brew. Personally, I find the strong, sweet candi sugar note just a little overpowering, but there still is a rather nice complexity and good overall balance to this with the estery spice, coffee and herbal hops providing some counterbalance among the dark fruit and chocolate notes, while there is also a light bitterness in the finish.
3.6Very interesting, multi dimensional brew. It has malty, caramel, candy aroma, some of it in flavor - caramel malts sweet start with some tart finish. Light to min hops flavor and bitterness (from hops), but the roasted, dark malts gives it kinda balanced notes like light to medium bitterness, makes finish indeed dry. Liket it because it not monolitic in taste and flavors, brew shows itself step by step, or to be more precise - sip by sip. And I found different angles from time to time. Nice.
3.9Bottle (0204141021) pour from Harvest Market, Bedford. Appearance is hazy reddish-dark brown with no sparkle, 2-finger rocky beige foam head with excellent retention and nice soapy lacing. Aroma is strong brown bread--molasses, grain--and mild yeast. Taste is strong dark fruit, liqueur, molasses/toffee, caramel, brown sugar, late earthy hops and mineral water. Mouthfeel is light-to-medium bodied with smooth, frothy texture, average carbonation, and crisp finish as taste with lingering strong toffee/earthy dry bitterness and maybe a hint of dark chocolate or coffee. ABV hidden well. Overall, pleasantly surprised to the upside here. Nice look, strong aroma, taste equally strong but more dynamic than the aroma, mouthfeel's a little thin. I enjoyed it.
4.0Aroma of light chocolate, a little wood smoke and a hint of caramel. I poured into my chalice glass with trepidation as the foam massed. It can produce quite a mountain of creamy tan foam lacing atop its dark brown body with ruby lights. Taste is medium sweet with some red fruits amidst the caramel malt. This smooths into a pleasing bitter finish. Palate is medium, sticky feel, average carbonation and a long finish which is bitter but with a lasting impression of the malts that preceded it. And the abv is very well concealed. I have developed the habit of reading the top raters and this is clearly a beer that is well loved in Scandinavia and appreciated less consistently in the UK. I guess I must have Viking blood.
3.7Bottle from Belgiuminabox.
Pours a murky dark brown/maroon colour with a medium sized creamy beige head. Aromas of dry dark fruits, chocolate, caramel, brown bread and brown sugar. Taste has the same notes as the aroma with some added roasty coffee notes. Very faint notes of liquorice. Medium bodied. Nice fairly long roasty and also sweet finish. Good beer
3.6Dark brown/ruby body with a big foamy and persistent tan head. Aroma is malty, yeasty. Taste is fruity, with a strange but pleasant licorice kick. Sweet and toasty finish. Medium body average carbonation oily texture
3.8330ml bottle in 2016. Clear deep brown with a dense offwhite head. Aroma of peal, raisins, toffee and yeasty esters. Full flavour with fruity and yeasty notes and bready malt.
3.9A great medium dark belgian, strong but not alcoholy, Good yeast and malty flavours. Mild belgian candi, but well balanced. online belgian beer factory
3.833cl bottle on 4th July 2019, sat outside De Zandloper, Brugge. Not the best idea on a warm sunny afternoon maybe, but it helped me sleep later! Poured a lovely rich dark colour, off-white/beige topping. Malty from start to finish with chocolate notes to the fore in both the aroma and taste. Can't believe I hadn't rated it (which is the real reason I tried it in the sun and not in front of a roaring fire in winter).
3.6Smell- medium strong, some bitterness and dark chocolate notes to it.
Foam- medium thick, soft, coffee, roast, bitterness and sweetness. Large foam, espresso foam color, white, brown color.
Appearance- half hazy, dark brown color, some carbonation.
Taste- tasty, creamy , roast notes, dark chocolate, sweetness, some alcohol feel.
Good beer.
3.7330ml bottle, drunk at home on a cold April evening. Pours thickly opaque with a thick pillow of mousse-like beige head, massive lacing, but no visible rising carbonation. Mid to dark brown in colour. On the nose, molasses, brown sugar and dark rum. In the mouth, intense sweetness, strong alcohol presence mild bitterness, flavours similar to the aromas, thick texture with a long sticky sweet finish. Overall, a rich and distinctively sugary BSA. Special.
3.9Uit een flesje in Den Hoorn, Texel. Diepbruine kleur, lichtbruin schuim.
3.7Brown/red clear pour with a thick off white head that last for quite a while. Chocolate aroma up front, with a beautiful malty backbone, toffee, strong coffee, burnt sugar and some cherry peaking through. Over medium bitter, halfway medium sweet with slight acid undertone. Medium bodied, average carbonation with a dry finish. Very enjoyable beer. A nice surprise.
4.1Bottle. Pours a dark nut brown colour with a big beige head. Aroma of raisins, brent sukker, spices, forest floor, rye bread and leather. Malty flavour with rye bread, raisin, caramel, licorice and some coffee and roasted malt in the end. Has a slick mouth feel, medium to full body, and a light bitterness. Well-balanced, sweet and lightly roasted.
3.7330ml bottle. Pours a murky dark ruby with a large, creamy, long lasting, tan head that leaves curtains of lace. Sweet aroma of roasted malt, dark chocolate, bread, caramel, plum, fig, raisin, earth and coffee. Sweet flavour of roasted malt, dark chocolate, caramel, cherry, plum, raisin, coffee and light spice in a dry, mild bitter finish. Medium body with a creamy, smooth, oily texture and soft carbonation. Well balanced and enjoyable.

3.633 cl bottle bought from supermarket. Pours hazy dark brown color with medium beige head. Aroma of roasted malt, raisins, caramel, alcohol. Taste is strong, roasted malt, malt, caramel, brown sugar. Medium body, soft carbonation, nice bitter aftertaste. Overall a good Belgian beer, for those who like strong beers.

Pours an off white head.
Tastes : Coffee, Toffee, Licourice, Hazelnut, Malts, Chocolate, Orange peel, Cocoa, Dark berries, Currant, Brown Sugar.
Boozy taste...rich, dark and full of flavour.
4.0Beautiful black body with creamy beige head (westmalle triple style fat cream). The creamy head does a good job standing. Aromas of roasted malt and chocolate, together with some hop fruitiness. Taste is really powerful with a great bitter sweet balance. Amazing palate. Very good beer from our Musketeers!
3.6Nice tasty evening sugar…ehh evening sipper. Nice dessert.
Deep brown color with a fine head. Ok lacing. Pleasant intensity in the aroma. Fine body and a not to high carbonation level. Easy to drink. Pleasant mouth feeling. Balanced sweetness. Dried fruits, candy, caramel, some spices, mild yeast and bready flavor. Ok complexity.
[Bottle from Vinmonopolet in Fredrikstad, Norway]
4.0DWF; Bottle, 750 ml, take away. Pours large, murky dark brown with a lasting frothy too creamy lacing tan head. Nose fils with heavy malt, dark caramel, sugar, nuts, ripe dark fruit, rasin, light vanilla and chocolate. Taste is heavy sweet and light bitter with a lasting, warming finish.
