4.2 Creamy, dense, stable and light brown head, incredibly smooth on the tongue. The smell is hoppy, mostly pine and hardly any sweet malt, despite the attractive almost black roast malt colour. Bitterness of the hops keep the sweetness in the background, while the coffee and liquorice tastes come through very well. Good one.
3.6 Very dark brown beer, thick off-white head. Smell is fairly mild, some malt, maybe a bit of chocolate and some toffee. Taste's delicious. Malt, chocolate, caramel, a little dried fruit, maybe a touch of anise and just a little boozy warmth. Smooth and a decent body to it. Very drinkable.
3.8 330ml (thx, George) at Furry Creek South beach with George and a gang. Appearance: dark brown with a beige head. Aroma: caramel, some roasted malts, honey. Taste: along the same lines with noticeable hoppy bitterness. Overall: good Belgiqn stuff.
4.0 Nera. Complessa e ben bilanciata.
3.7 Pours dark brown with a moderate beige top. Aroma is chocolate, toasted malt and a touch of earthy hop. Taste is smooth, light toasted malt with nuts, chocolate with some hop bitterness and earthy notes.
4.0 Bottle from Belgiuminabox. Pours a very very dark brown almost black colour with a large very thick creamy beige head. Nice lacing. Beautiful looking beer. Aromas of chocolate, caramel, nuts, some dark, citrus and tropical fruits and hints of herbs and spice. Taste is fairly nutty, more chocolate, caramel, some roasty notes and some citrus hop. Full bodied, very smooth slightly oily mouthfeel and a fairly long roasty and citrus hop bitterness on the finish. Complex and beautifully made beer. Excellent.
4.1 Pours a deep, dark mahogany coloration with an amber hue and a huge, creamy head. Smells of roasted, biscuity malt and resinous, citrus hops, with notes of chocolate, grapefruit, and lighter coffee and pine. Taste follows the nose, with an excellent balance of roasted, biscuity malt, bitter, resinous, citrus hops and notes of chocolate, coffee, grapefruit, lime peel, pine and hints of brown sugar and estery spice. Finishes with a medium/strong bitterness and some roasted malt, chocolate, grapefruit and pine lingering in the aftertaste. Full, creamy mouthfeel with a medium/rich body and medium carbonation. This is a great BIPA with a very slight Belgian twist, featuring an excellent balance of roasted malt and bitter, resinous hops, but with just a hint of brown sugar and estery spice as well, which lends that certain belgian feel to this, but never allows it to become too sweet, being balanced very nicely by those bitter, resinous hops, while also featuring a very pleasant, soft and velvety mouthfeel and thick, fluffy foam, leaving large, wispy chunks of lacing on the inside of the glass.
3.3 Colore marrone scuro e schiuma colore nocciola molto persistente.
3.0 A small bottle at Beer Ammo in Gong Guan yesterday evening. Aroma: sour yeast. Appearance: clear Americano, gargantuan tan head [served at room temp.] Palate: medium-bodied and slick, lively carbonation; predominantly bitter, rather astringent. Taste: medium-bitter, iron, malt loaf, soap. Not particularly complex.
3.7 (Bottle) clear, bright, dark brown colour with a medium tall brown head; aroma of jam, brown sugar; intense dryish flavour with a long, medium bitter finish
3.7 330ml brown bottle from the LCBO, written on front label 8.6% ABV and 55 IBU - with a best before date 2022/APR/08. Pours a hazy copper brown colour with light ruby highlights. The head is huge, fluffy-creamy, great retention and some nice creamy lacing. Aromas of roasted malts, oatmeal, with notes of chocolate and mild grassy hops. The mouthfeel get fairly dry in the end, with lots of bitterness lingering. The flavours are mostly hops over the very light roasted malts. A pretty decent Black IPA... from Belgium.
4.1 Deep brown pour with a thick pillowy tan head... don't know why I expected this to be pale... but I did. Aroma is pretty lovely. Sort of a biscuity/cookieish malt base with some sweet brown sugar notes and a fairly aromatic/herbal top note. There's a bit of grassiness along with some date and plum fruitiness. It's like a hoppy dubbel to me. Malty but moreish. The malts, although evident and sweet smelling aren't cloying... they have that Belgian quality of being fully attenuated and dry. I like this quite a bit. It's a really interesting take on a hoppy strong ale and it kind of works. I don't think it has any business working but I've been wrong before.
3.3 Pours dark brown with rich tan head that leaves plenty of lacing behind. Medium body texture. Taste of Belgium yeast and finish with slight hoppiness. Aroma and taste of herbs, but not over whelming. well balanced.
3.8 Bottle from the LCBO. Clear dark mahogany under a large foamy khaki head that fades slowly and leaves spotty lace. Nose is molasses, dark fruit, grass, roast nuts, light coffee, licorice, minerals and light yeast. Light+ brown sugar sweetness with a medium+ grass and coffee bitterness. Mouth is full and creamy with soft carbonation. Warming but not boozy. 8/4/7/4/15
3.7 Bottle from LCBO pours a frothy head over a blackish brown body. Far from my favorite style, this example imparts a nice herbal dryness and minerally Belgian-yeast tone to the roasty-malty and grassy-hoppy proceedings. Hint of lemon and resin on the hops. Kola and coffee. At least it's varied and complex.
3.7 Hoppy aroma reminiscent of other Belgians. Pours a dark brown with abundant frothy caramel-coloured head. Bitter initial taste gives way to a sweet malty finish. This is a good one for sure!
3.3 330 ml bottle from the LCBO. Pours a dark brown colour with solid-sized light tan head. Aroma is roasty with some dark dried fruit, sharp herbal character and something treacle. Flavour has strong herbal and slightly fruity hop character with roast, fig and a little molasses. Medium plus body. Interesting.
4.0 pretty good
3.4 Bottle from LCBO. Fruity spicy aroma with some molasses. Dark molasses malt taste, herbal hoppy bitter bite. Overall good.
3.2 dark brown with a white head. smells like amarillo/ early 2010s C-hops. rough hop taste, toffee/roasted malt taste. no belgian yeast elements. west coast ale yeast. oily body. again, notably rough. should be about 75% of the price i paid for it at most. wouldnt get again.
3.5 Lci - Dark brown with an offwhite head. Aroma of roasted malt, tinned fruit and brown sugars.
4.3 Black beer with persistent beige foam, laces and aromas of coffee, chocolate, with caramel-liquorice, hops and wood.
4.0 330ml bottle in 2016. Dark brown with an offwhite head. Aroma of roasted malt, tinned fruit and brown sugars. Nice full flavour and good body. Rising resinous hops in the finish.
3.3 Bottle. Clear dark brown, beige head. Aroma is mildly nutty, hay, herbal, chocolate. Hops are present but overpowered by dark malt. Rather sweet with medium bitterness. Balanced carbonation.
4.1 Nice beer from the SAQ, strong and inkling on the Belgian tradition, my type.
