Tuatara Sauvinova

Tuatara Sauvinova

Kiwis are notorious for developing an enthusiasm for local commodities only after a thumbs up from the more discerning parts of the world. In the case of Nelson Sauvin hops we think that’s a little unfair. Tuatara and Sauvin were released into the world at about the same time so we knew them back in the day. We’re celebrating with Sauvinova, a single hop pale ale exploding with the distinctive tropical gooseberry notes that made it’s Sauvignon Blanc namesake famous.

Ingredients: water, barley malt (Pilsner, Vienna, Crystal), hops (Nelson Sauvin).

3.5 Bottle from supermarket. Amber color, white head. Bitter taste with citrus, hops, fruits, a bit of pine, grass and toast. Bitter finish with citrus, pine, hops, fruits and grass. Very nice session pale ale.
3.7 good beer. just not sure I like the Nelson Sauvin hops that much. Beer finished a bit tart/bitter for mine. also very heavily carbonated.
2.8 The best part of this is the bottle. He taste is disappointing. Like a stupid hot girl. Nice on the outside but lacking on the inside
3.8 Tap at Beer Geek. Hops centered, very easy drinking, also very tasty. Moderate bitterness, moderate sweetness and crystal mLtiness. Very good though.
3.3 Bottle at home. A darker than expected colour in the glass that was followed by a rich taste of hops and a level of malt to balance the flavour. Not one to stick in the mind, but very pleasant.
2.9 251117. Bottle at home. Pours clear copper with a small head. Aroma strawberries, hops. Grape. Feels dated :( Very bland overall. Even slightly tart. Hmph.
4.3 Cool bottle in Bangkok. Bottled on February 2017. Medium pale caramel, delicate, and a gorgeous foam subsiding slow. Scent is dense properties of caramelised hops. Loads of floral. Possibly honey. Taste is mild, delicate, and balanced. Very soft palate. Smooth. A bit creamy. Somehow simultaneously more complex while being more simple and mild than expected. Exceptional at this ABV. Nearly end of life but at my level of knowledge it isn't obvious.
4.0 4,7%. Consumo preferente: 28/4/18.
3.5 Bottled, 330ml from The Salt Horse Bottle Shop, Edinburgh. Hazy gold with white head. There is a light, slightly sweetish malty body to this, some fruitiness but this beer is mostly about the hop. There is a light resinous, perfumed hint, fleshy Kiwi Fruit hints, some tropical fruit, grape type flavours. Very pleasant.
2.8 Trockener, sehr getreidiger Antrunk. Geringe Süße, moderat hopfig, trocken bleibend. Die intensive Getreidigkeit stört etwas. Okay. 10/9/8/9//8
3.2 From tap at Muted Horn, Berlin. Clear amber color with a white head. The aroma is medium hoppy with notes of white grapes, flowers and some herbs and hay in the beginning followed by a light maltiness with wet grains and corn. Medium watery body with a medium bitterness and a light sweetness. The flavor is again hoppy, resin, some pine with some malt (caramel). Bitter hoppy finish. Becomes better upon warming. Aroma: 6 Appearance: 4 Taste: 7 Palate: 3 Overall: 12
4.2 Hoppy not that bitter. Totally love this bottle!
3.0 Fresh from the tap at Hopfenreich. Vera Nase hoppy Notes. Well done Product of the Kiwis.
2.6 Look: clear, Redgold Aroma: maracuja, fruity, Taste: very straight an the Start. Middle high bitterness. Limones. Hops. In the end still straight. Musty Taste
3.5 Lekker, hoppig bier. Warme volle smaak en ook de afronding is prima. Kwalitatief prima maar geen wow gevoel.
3.3 Got this in a Beerhawk mystery case and pretty good it is too. Nicely hopped for me
3.5 From a beer hawk mystery case. Mild hop aroma , medium hop taste, with a lovely hop aftertaste. Sweetish meaty taste.
3.2 (bottle) opalescent deep golden colour with a frothy off-white head. aroma of onions and sweatsocks, with lots of physalis, some earth and black pepper gunpowderisms. flavour is mostly the same, treebark, onions and resin, with a hint of lemon juice and a light-bitter herbal-hoppy finish. medium-bodied with average carbonation.
4.5 Estupenda, si no fuera por su precio repetiría
3.5 Bottle. Pours clear golden with small white sticky head. Aroma : a bit old, hay, weak caramel, tropical fruits. Taste : malty, weak bitterness, tropical fruits, berries. Nice. Would like it really fresh.
4.0 An attractive 33cl bottle from Westholme Stores, Goring. A bright amber pour with a tight white head; aroma of fresh grapes and gooseberry; light and fragrant in the mouth with a light fizz and then a gooseberry bitterness; levaing a clean crisp finish. An excellentr single hop beer that really shows off the Nelson Sauvin hops.
3.9 Copper coloured body with a great, five to six centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of amazingly rich white grapes, floral, grassy and especially tropical fruity hops with passionfruit, lychee and guava notes around. Medium-bodied; Assertive hops up front with a nice flavour and interestingly enough, not much bitterness. Great mild malts that show some body but not overwhelming - the hops speak for themselves here, as they should. Aftertaste is mild with a lot of hops and tropical fruit notes, but not much alcohol and hardly any malt make this very nice and hop-centric. Overall, a great beer to try and nice to sample this hop varietal without traveling to New Zealand nor bringing this heavy bottle back home! I sampled this 33 cL studded bottle purchased from Jason’s Market Place in Taipei 101, Taipei, Taiwan on 24-July-2017 for NT$135 sampled a few hours later here in my hotel in Central Taipei, Taiwan on 24-July-2017.

3.6 Bottle from Asahiya. Light sweetish tropical fruit nose, dying fruit blossoms, pine. Clear gold/amber color. Medium sweet tropical fruit, caramel, pekoe tea, small bit of citrus, and a dry sort of finish. Thin-medium body. Very pleasant. The Nelson complements the malt and doesn’t dominate.
