Twisted Pine Hoppy Boy IPA

Twisted Pine Hoppy Boy IPA

Hoppy Boy India Pale Ale is the flagship beer of Twisted Pine. It has a rocky white head, hazy pale orange color, and hoppy citrus aroma. It has a dry, tart taste with an earthy bitterness. Cascade hops provide pleasant grapefruit and citrus notes. This classic American IPA is brewed with medium caramel malts that play off the citrus and orange rind hop flavors to make this beer most enjoyable.

3.0 hazy amber with a thin white head. aroma is pine hops. Flavor is pine and citrus hops and caramel malts. medium carbonation.
3.4 12oz bottle poured into a tulip glass. Hazy golden orange color with a decent white head. Citrus nose, with tropical notes, some lime and faint yeast. Juicy fruity hop flavors (citrus peel), light caramel, some marmalade, medium bitterness faint malt. Medium bodied, hoppy, dry enough, not super interesting but cool.
3.0 Bottle from mixed 12 pack. A kin to Sweetwater 420 pale ale. Caramel, highly carbonated. Bitterness is there with a little bit of citrus, but not much of anything else pops out. Kind of just liquid. I rated 420 higher due to sentimental value. This is just barely ok
2.5 This was a little bit of a let down. gave it a try. A swing and a miss. next batter up
3.3 Bottle, 22 oz. It forms a dense fingerthick off-white head over a clear, dark golden body. The initial aroma has lots of citrus peel, but soon pine cones and a malty sweetness kicks in. It’s a tad sweet on the palate, lightly malty, but still the hops win easily. Bitterness, pine cones, resins and a grass touch shows up. Full body, semi-sweet, with a nice carbonation level. Lasting finish with a tad too much sweetness. Some metallic hints too. Overall, sure decent, but too much on the malty side. 140512
3.1 Poured from a tall can into a pint glass. The beer had a hazy amber-gold color with an average-sized foamy white head with modest retention, good lacing and cling. Its aroma featured grainy and citrus hops along with some lighter pine and floral notes and a bit of malt. The taste was a bitter blend of grainy and lighter citrus flavors with a slight sour grain effect and bits of lighter fruit and floral tones. It had a medium thickness in the mouth with a dry body and was somewhat on the thin side as it settled with low to average carbonation.
3.0 Bottle from Total Wine in Jensen Beach. Pours a lively orange with a white head leaving nice lacing. Aroma has pineapple and ... sour fruit (seldom a good sign as it seems to be dead hops) and pineapple, and maybe pine. Taste is of sweet light fruit, sour fruits, some toffee malts. And pine too, I guess. Shrug? Light to medium bodied. Finishes sweet and light. Nothing to recommend here, move on.
4.0 Can. Pours amber with small head. Nose and flavor are piney with a little bit sweetness.
1.5 Not good. This is a mess. A sweet weird mess. No hops to be heard of, this tastes like hot garbage. If this is their flagship beer I weep for their other beers. This is so sweet it’s borderline undrinkable. I rarely meet a beer I can’t drink but this is terrible. Would it kill you to add some hops? This is bad. Can’t do it, I’m about to pour this trash and grab myself a real IPA.
3.4 Nice in flavour. Not much in other featurs. It was well brewed but a little not too thick. Enjoyable it was.
2.1 Gold pour from bottle. No head. Flat. Nose is flat grassy. Sweet. Not too hot. Wouldn’t drink again
3.3 On tap at the brewery Clear golden with a medium sized white head and good lacing. Mild aroma is floral. Flavors of floral and citrus Nice, mild and easy drinking
3.1 2/27/13 on draft @TGL. Rare Friday night out especially with vascular fellowship internship day being tomorrow. Anyway got a tip pliney the younger would be on tap but NOPE. So I hit the only ipa on tap and it was nothing to write home about. Very plain
3.2 (bottle - 12 oz) Copper pour with a white head. Bitter hop and citrus aroma. Flavor is malty at the front which is odd, but moves to a slightly bitter and grassy finish.
2.4 Bottle, screw-top. Nose has wooden/piny notes with spicy and rugged caramel, some dull but chewy and earthy toffee, mild grapefruit/Cascade. Golden gradient pour with a dense off-white head. Taste medium bitter, but very smooth and rounded, no brutish or thuggish character at all, but the very full doughy caramel does feel neutered, and there’s not enough carbonation or zinging tartness to compensate. Very mildly tart, fresh, but overall sort of a blanket of depression.
3.7 Bottle at hotel room orlando... Copper.. Thin tan head... Sweet floral pine... Woody malts... Big zezty.. Fresh clean... Al. Ost spi y in its hoppyness... Nice
3.0 Sampler at Twisted Pine. Appearance: slight white head, good lace, golden yellow, clear. Aroma: floral, caramel, nut. Palate: sticky texture, light body, very bitter and metallic finish. Taste: sweet caramel, blends to nice bitterness growing to too bitter and finishing metallic. Overall, very unique IPA, do not like the metallic, but other than that it is pretty neat.
3.3 Bottle. Sharp very pine intense hoppy IPA. Cloudy, gold, tall white head. Bitter finish? Medium body.
3.4 Bottle; nice orangish copper look. This is a good representation of what one should expect with an IPA. Malt hop balance is very good. Very nice aftertaste.
3.5 Can. Pours copper with white head. Stale and bitter hops, solid beer actually.
3.2 Bottled. Pours a clear light amber with a thick cream head. The aroma is hoppy and sweet. The taste is pretty smooth, medium body with a dry finish. Overall mild with a light hop character, not bad.
3.7 Can courtesy of my stepmom at their annual Oktoberfest. Pours a clear gold orange with a thin white head. Soft citrus and hops, bits of citrus, slight malt, citrus hops, gentle earthy qualities. Malt and a bit of citrus. Touch of bitterness on the finish, grapefruit.
2.0 Appearance - hazy orange color Aroma - not much at all Mouthfeel - medium carb bite. Smooth Taste - very light. Like a super light IPA. Smooth and light weight start but almost nothing at the end. Funky aftertaste. Overall - kinda sucks. A bit boring. Seems almost like a pale ale with boring and funky aftertaste. This sucks.
3.1 Pours a golden color with a good head and nice lacing on the glass. The aroma is crystal malt forward with grassy and citrusy hops, some sort of weird stinkiness lingers in the background... but it’s tricky to name. The flavor isn’t half bad, it’s nicely bitter... it’s not overly sweet, s’got some lime and orage citrus, some grassiness. A bit much on the caramel malt. Didn’t hate it, wouldn’t buy it again... Is obviously a shelf beer.
3.6 On tap. Amber with a fluffy off-white head, aromas of pine and a little citrus, then a big malt and citrus body with a touch of herby wintergreen in the finish. Well balanced and very tasty - an excellent example of a classic near-historical IPA with an American twist.
3.4 12 oz bottle from Evergreen Discount. Golden amber color and clear with a lacy white head. Citrus fruit, pine, grass, earthy and bitter. Similar flavor with some sweet caramel malts balancing things out. Medium bodied with a lingering finish. Not bad.
3.3 Bottle; poured a clear and dull orange. Oroma of earth, caramel, citrus and orange. Crisp flavor; some nice hoppiness with good balance of caramel. Solid.
3.0 Bottle. Pours a murky amber with a foamy white head that leaves a lot of lacing behind. Aroma of sweet citrus hops, malt, sugar, and a hint of pine. Taste is mild, a little bitter, of clean citrus hops, orange peel, and a little malt. Lingering watery bitterness. Drinkable but too light.
2.7 The aroma is very nice much like an English style IPA. Likes nice too, hazy amber with a thin white head. Something in the taste was off. Some weird metallic tang. Thin finish.
