Two Roads Espressway Cold Brew Coffee Stout

Two Roads Espressway Cold Brew Coffee Stout

In a process unique to Two Roads, we mixed a locally-roasted Ethiopian/Sumatran blend of beans with a rich oatmeal stout under pressure (like espresso without the steam) using our German-built "Brewnik" device. The mixture is steeped for several days resulting in a true, cold-brewed coffee stout. Hop on the Two Roads Espressway!

3.7 Black beer, light brown head. Big coffee aroma. Flavour is mostly coffee too, with a little anise and dark chocolate. Straightforward but rich and tasty.
4.1 A strong smell of coffee, sweet malt and chocolate. The head is small, beige and foamy with a short duration. The body is black. A strong malty taste, sweet amount of chocolate, a light bitter finish. The body is medium strong, oily and creamy with a medium carbonation.
3.6 Darkest brown colour with an average beige head. Roasted malts, intense coffee, filter coffee, dark chocolate, medium carbonation, good.
3.5 355 ml bottle, at St. Urho's Pub, Helsinki. ABV is 6.5%. Black colour, tan head. Aroma and flavour of roast malts and espresso coffee. Not too sweet.
3.4 355ml Flashe. Klar und schwarz mit minimaler Schaumkrone. Intensive Röstaromen. Etwas Kaffee. Herb im Antrunk. Ganz lecker.
3.5 0.355 l bottle from 'Biermuda', bottled in June 2018. Black with a thin, frothy, slowly diminishing, light brown head. Sweetish-malty, gently roasty aroma of coffee, dark chocolate, toasted nuts and some licorice. Gently sweet, malty, quite roasty taste of lots of coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla, toasted nuts and some licorice, followed by a medium long, gently roasty-bitter, rather earthy-dry finish. Medium body, gently effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. Pleasant Coffee Stout!
3.1 355 can (Alko, Levi). Pitch black color. Medium size, brown head, stays. Cold coffee, herbal hops, some roast in aroma and in taste. Drinkable brew.

3.7 335 ml bottle. Toffee, cassis, roated coffee beans, caramel, dark chocolate, citrus, cocoa, roasted bread crumbs and some smoke. Malty sweetness, coffee bitterness. Full bodied, oily texture, soft carbonated, long intense dry bitter finish. Very nice!
3.2 How: bottle Head: two finger, tan. DIssipates quickly. Colour: black with red highlight Aroma: cold coffrr, slight lactose, dark berries, light smoke, slight caramel. Taste: medium body, avarage carbonation, velvety mouthfeel, coffee and lots of it, under the layers of coffee are some notes of campfire. Long coffee filled aftertaste. Coffee dominates a bit too much.
4.1 12 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 10/17/2018. Pours opaque dark brown/black color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky tan head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a light amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big nutty dark roasted coffee, milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, molasses, toffee, toasted oats, and dark/brown bread; with light notes of licorice, raisin, plum, cherry, fig, date, smoke, char, herbal, floral, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malts, coffee, and light fruity yeast/earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big nutty dark roasted coffee, milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, molasses, toffee, toasted oats, and dark/brown bread; with light notes of licorice, raisin, plum, cherry, fig, date, smoke, char, herbal, floral, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Light herbal, grassy, spicy hop; and roast/charred coffee bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of nutty dark roasted coffee, milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, molasses, toffee, toasted oats, dark/brown bread, light dark fruit/smoke/char, herbal, floral, grass, yeast/roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, coffee, and light fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; with a great roast/hop bitter/sweet balance; no cloying, acrid, astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/velvety/bready, and lightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is fantastic. Minimal warming alcohol for 6.5%. Overall this is an outstanding oatmeal coffee stout! All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, coffee, and light fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the mildly bitter/drying finish. Very soft feel, not overly roasty/bitter. Amazing balance of rich malts and fruity/nutty coffee complexity; with mild fruity yeast and earthy hop presence against sweetness. A highly enjoyable offering, and spot on style example.
3.9 12 ounce can poured into a brandy snifter. The beer is a clear brown with a lasting head of khaki foam. Roasty coffee in the aroma with notes of vanilla bean and caramel over top a strong shot of espresso. Bigger body and medium carbonation.
3.5 Bottled 355ml (Alko web) Dark brown colour, small beige head. Coffee and spices in the nose (like chilli). Light to medium-bodied. Toasted, very coffeish flavour with chilli kind of spiceyness. Light chocolate in the finish. LIght, well-brewed coffee beer.
3.6 355 ml bottle. Bottled on 15.08.2018. BBE 15.05.2019. Pours black color with a large beige head. Coffee is evident on the nose, caramel, toasted malts, subtle hops, distant rye, cocoa and hints of spices. Flavor is bitter malty and roasty, dry chocolate notes, coffee, again some caramel, dry wooden finish. Strong carbonation, fluffy palate. Nice coffee brew. 4425
3.7 35,5 cl bottle @ home. Bottled 15.08.2018, BBE 15.05.2019 Aroma has coffee, mocha and licorice. Flavour has coffee, some peppery spices and licorice. Decent coffee beer, perhaps a bit straightforwards though.
3.5 Sample from a can at Veteran's. Pours black, with a medium sized, frothy, tan head. The aroma is milk chocolate, mild coffee, some earth, and caramel. Sweet and roasty, with a smooth, strong bitterness. Light to medium body, with a syrupy, sharp mouthfeel. This is a nice, mellow, coffee stout.

3.6 Bottle. Black in color with a tan head. Coffee mostly in aroma. Dark chocolatey bitter taste with some roasted coffee as well. Good tasting brew with nice drinkability.
3.7 A black beer, a head is quite big and beige. Aroma has coffee, chocolate, roastiness, also richness of malts. Taste has coffee, roastiness, some liquorice. Medium+ bodied, that fitts nicely to this beer. Strongly coffee, I like it.
3.7 A small taste @ the flagship Alko, press blind tasting. Pours clear deep brown with a medium brown head. Aroma is roasted malts with loads of coffee and some alcohol. Flavor is roasted malts, coffee, chili?, hops. Quite good.
3.7 Bottled 355ml. -from Weyermann Fan Shop Bamberg. Black coloured, small to medium sized brown head, pure fresh ground coffee in the nose. Light roasted malt, coffee, filter coffee, mild notes of chocolate and rather dry coffee finish. Such a great coffee aroma but bit flat taste.
3.2 Bottle. Brown color with beige head. Aroma is fresh coffee ground, earthy, leathery. Taste is metallic, adstringent, like coffee powder. Metallic mouthfeel with medium carbonation. Aroma is good, but taste is too metallic for me.
3.2 Bottle. Black, dark brown head. Astringent spent coffee ground aroma, light chili. Medium light slightly flat metallic body. Brass lollipop, earthy, mineral notes, dry bready roast chocoltate finish.
3.2 This beer is coffee in nose and taste and black in color. Head is beige that stays thick. There is bit of dark chocolate in taste. It is a sipping beer. 12 oz can in the Beer Bus variety pack Canned 6/11/18 BBE 10/1/18
3.1 Bottle: Literally black, small and stable tanned head, moderate bitter-sweet toasty nose with heavy traces of coffee grounds, maybe some chocolate in the background; moderate to solid bitter-sweet flavour with a very light acidity, hardly medium bodied; lingering dry bitter-sweet toasty-coffeeish finish. Good, but too "coffeeish" IMHO...
3.5 (bottle, 35.5cl) Dark brown, almost black colour with a medium-sized and tanned foamy head. Dark and roasted malty nose with strong notes of ground coffee with slightly burnt and tannic notes and dark chocolate. Roasty bitter, mildly sweet and slightly sour flavour, medium bodied with a soft carbonation. Earthy and roasted malt character with coffee, espresso, dark chocolate, also slightly ashy and syrupy with a sourish tannic edge towards the finish. Good. 24.IX.18
3.6 Draught at Federal Cigar Bar, 8/17/18. Dark mahogany with dark, ruddy highlights on the edges. Probably clear. Light tan head atop slowly fades to ring. Light espresso is aromatic though quite mild. No aggressive roast, bitterness or acrid notes. Base malt is intact and provides good balance joining with the dark notes to produce light caramel and vanilla. Clean, lightly fruity and showing no alcohol. In the mouth it's fairly soft with a slick-to-malty texture that allows for enough sweetness to balance the coffee character. Fruity, earthy and flavorful, with low but fairly engaging carbonation and no flaw or alcohol.
3.4 On tap at Beer Run. Roasty coffee aromas, nutty. Black with a fairly lasting beige head. Dry, clean coffee flavors. Medium bodied.
4.3 Pours black with beige head. Aroma is roasted, delicious coffee and chocolate. Flavour is roasted, coffee and dark chocolate.
3.6 Rather this nose but some coffee notes and very light for a stout. Taste is also light and crisp, lacking some viscosity that is normal for this type beer. Palate rather short in general but some salmiak remains.
