Tyranena BGW Bitter Woman From Hell Extra IPA

Tyranena BGW Bitter Woman From Hell Extra IPA

Big, fat & flowing with hoppiness. Humongous nose... bursting with flavor... and intense mouth-numbing bitterness. The Bitter Woman’s evil alter ego!

3.3 pours dense amber with off whtie head. nose of pnw hops very fruity. caramel malt and biscuit backbone. thin body. decent.
3.8 Bottle from zathrus13. Aroma of hops. Flavor was of hops but not that big as stated. Very smooth and refreshing. Good balance.
3.5 bottle from sliffy. thanks dan. consumed last night. Pours a striking amber with a small white head. Aroma and flavor are overwhemingly bitter with hops. I liked this at first, but as it a warmed it was just a bit too bitter for my current tastes. A solid ipa.
3.5 Bottle thanks to madsberg. A amber beer with a white head. The aroma is light caramel malt, pine, hop, so is the taste, light sweet. Medium body with a bitter dry finish.
3.9 Nice strong nose of citrus and pine, with a hint of alcohol hiding behind. Pours a hazy, reddish amber, with almost no head. Hints of dark fruits start the beer, with a long pine hop finish. A bit too light bodied for my preferences, but overall a very tasty IPA.
3.8 The Dan Journal #67. Tasted 1/9/2007. 12oz bottle. Filtered and golden amber hued. Off white head. Sweet sticky malty musty aromas. Bitter from the onset. Grapefruity. But sugary fruit. Crisp tight and bitter. Dry and lively. Smell is way off from the flavor. Sticky beer. Well done!
3.6 Picked up single 12-oz bottle at Bob McFarland’s Liquors in McFarland, Wisconsin. Pours a clear caramel amber brew with a thick lumpy white head that slowly dissolves and leaves behind a very good lacing. Aroma is more alcohol, light caramel, toffee, and a touch of lime zest. Not much in pine or bitter hop scents. Taste is medium bodied with very little carbonation. Flavors of light spice, buscuits, and just of touch of bitterness. Finish is light, smooth and then a short bitterness. More of a pale ale than an IPA
3.8 Bottle. Cloudy orange coloured with a white head. Fruity aroma of hops and pine needles. Sweet flavour of fruits, caramel, hops, pine needles and grape fruits.
3.5 Bottled. Amber coloured. unclear. Off white head. Pines, sweetness, herbs and flowers in the aroma. Flavour is quite flowery and herbal. Pines and sweetness is there as well. Quite citric and dry. Medium to full bodied. Medium bitter end. Quite refreshing and drinkable.
3.5 (Bottle 35,5 cl) Courtesy of madsberg. Pours a slightly hazy, amber golden with a small, off-white head. Very citrusy and piney nose. Medium body with sweetish malt - perhaps a wee buttery whiff. Dry and rather bitter finish. 270607
3.3 Bottled. Amber coloured. Hoppy aroma. Sweetish juicy hop flavour with notes of pine needles. Medium bodied.
3.8 12 oz. btl. pours a nice orange copper with impressive rocky head. Huge aroma of resiny pine and citrus. starts balanced with more citrus orange and nice malt sweetness. middle is more the same with the finish being slightly floral and somewhat dry for a big ale like this. left me wanting more.
3.7 5/08/2007: An evening of Tyranena IPAs (in order tasted): Tyranena Bitter Woman IPA, Tyranena Bitter Woman From Hell Extra IPA, Tyranena Hop Whore Imperial India Pale Ale... Tyranena Bitter Woman From Hell pours a cloudy golden-orange/amber color. There is a moderate level of visible carbonation and small, fluffy, and puffy beige-colored head. The lacing left behind is thick, but as the same time quite delicate. The aroma is rich caramel and toffee malt with notes of mellow citrus and floral hops. Orange citrus and grapefruit hops pair with a deep caramel maltiness to form the balanced flavor. The bitterness deeps with each passing minute. In the end it still doesn’t seem very bitter, but is does have a slightly mouth numbing effect! The body of this beer is medium-full. It seems to be slightly sticky on the lips, but smooth and satisfying in the mouth. Overall Bitter Woman From Hell is a little bit more intense than the Bitter Woman IPA, but I enjoyed the unique peach and apricot qualities of the latter as well as its extreme drinkablity slightly more than the intensity and bitterness of former... 12 oz bottle from buckybeer via trade (Dec 2006). Thanks Mark!
3.7 Bottle courtesy of hopdog. Cloudy, rusted amber with a tall tan head. Aroma is big hops. Grapefruit juice with soft pine and orange oils. Soft sweet malts. Taste is bitter and very hoppy. Pine notes, grapefruit is dominant, and orange peel. Sweet malts are a bit too much in the background. Soft caramel as well. Body is soft and creamy. Oily feel with mild carbonation. Finishes with more grapefruit juice, orange peel, and pine notes. Lighter caramel here too. Not bad!
3.8 Bottle shared with Hogtown Harry, biegaman, and blankboy, Harry’s bottle. Strong hop aroma - some malt as well. Orange pour, white head. Very strong bitter taste - lots of chewy malt. Orange like citrus. Long bitter linger - tons of citrus. Nice stuff very drinkable.
3.8 Bottle shared with HogTownHarry, tupalev & biegaman -- courtesy of HogTownHarry. Pours a cloudy orange with an average size mostly-lasting creamy off-white head. Aroma: Oh yeah, that smells nice! Lots and lots of hops: piney, floral, resiny and citrus. Big resiny hop flavour along with some malt backing it up and a pleasant long bitter finish. Medium bodied. A fantastic IPA!
3.9 Bottle (12oz). Shared with blankboy, biegaman and tupalev - my bottle, via trade with zathrus13. Slightly hazy light orange, solid creamy off-white head. Slightly carbonized malt aroma, leafy and mildly resiny hops. Taste - big resiny hops, toasted malt, simple and powerful - long finish. Average IPA body, solid astringency, decent carbonation. Excellent.
3.2 From a 12oz Bottle. Purchased at Riley’s Wines of the World in Madison, WI. Pours a deep caramelly amber color, slightly cloudy, with a thick layer of off-white frothy head. Lots of fresh, floral hops with an herbal euro-hop quality. Plenty of bitter hop aromas, but not overly citrusy or piney. Light to medium bodied, tingling carbonation that creates a dancing mouthfeel. Lots of caramel malts on the tongue, as well as some biscuity graham cracker. Very bitter, clean floral finish, perhaps warrior hops. Decent flavors, but nothing mind-blowing as far as complexity is concerned. There’s plenty of hop bitterness, but not a whole lot of layers of hop character to make it overly interesting in that regard. The malt character is also tasty, but again, nothing special. Together, the caramel malt and bitter hop characters combine to create a beer that is too bitter and malty to be sessionable, but not bold enough to be satisfying on their own merits.
3.6 This IPA pours a deep golden brown color from a 12oz bottle. Medium sized white foamy head. Aroma is lots of hops, piney, floral and a touch of citrus. A medium to full bodied IPA. Malts are caramel and sweet. Hops are piney and grapefruity. Lots of hop flavors and hop bitterness in this one. Nice balance. Good carbonation. Not over the top, but a nice hoppy IPA. Nice clean finish. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is bitter.
3.4 Bottle: Thick hazy caramel, moderate spritzy off-white head, lattice like lacing, slight sediment floats about.   Definite hoppy nose, slightly on the side of citrus rind and astringency.   Decent citrus bitterness based hoppiness on the tongue.   Pairs well with its moderate malt backing.   Fairly clean, definitely on the "abrasive" side as compared to the standard Bitter Woman.   Fairly smooth as well, with a finish that seems to be a healthy dose of citrus rind like bitterness.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   At the finish I wished it would have a bit more malt backing... but if it did then would it really be considered a "Bitter Woman From Hell"?   Decent beer, but ultimately on the bitter side of the fence.   Any more malts on this one and perhaps it would be considered an IIPA.   Thanks Matt for this one!
3.5 Sweet caramel aroma with catty hops and brown sugar and molasses. Not as strong as I had expected. Golden copper in color wit ha tall, off-white head and good lacing. Sweet and malty with a fruity, almost applie-like sweetness. Mid-palate it changes to a lighter, cola and grainy flavor. Bitterness is not very over -powering. Doesn’t seem hellish to me. A good, well balanced IIPA that isn’t overly sweet or cloying. Medium0light body, a little watery with high levels of carbonation.
3.9 Dark Amber color with Sandy Head. Hops and Burnt Caramel Aroma. Flavor Is Reminiscent of Peated Smoke Malt. Sweet Caramel and Toast..Nice Neatly Packed Hops. Little Sudsy overall.. Almost Like Drinking a Hopped Scotch Ale. Nice Layers to This Brew. Afterthought of Light Chocolate. Wonderful Brew. Maybe a Bitter Woman isn’t To Be Feared After All.
3.1 12 oz bottle. Poured a clear orange color; one shade lighter than the Hop Whore IIPA. Head was thick with good retention and lacing. Smelled of light malty caramel, but not much else. Dry on the tongue with plenty of hop bitterness, but not much hop flavor. I tasted some husky cereal grain and a bit of caramel. unfortunately there was also a metallic detracting note. Stick with the plain old Bitter Woman IPA.
3.0 boring. thats what i can call this beer. ive had pale ales with more hops. the initial aroma was rather soapy in a body wash kind way. maybe irish spring...i dunno. flavor...well, kinda nothing really. dont get me wrong....plenty drinkable and went down really smooth. but IPA...i dont think so...and dont get me wrong, im not some hophead that cant taste hops unless they are over 80 IBUs...but seriously, this was mediocre at best.
4.0 Bottle. Orangish brown colour. 1 finger head. Unbelievable lacing. Best i have ever seen. I had a line of lacing for every sip that I took! Nose was of powerful hop. Taste was lively. Severely bitter, earthy, but a bit of carmel and sweet hidden in the background. This beer is definately in your face. You love it or you don’t. Seems as most ratebeerians loved it, as did I. I would definately buy this beer again.
3.8 Bottle from CaptainCougar. Murky orange sediment-laden body, thin off-white to buff head. Hop tea aroma, earthy, with a variety of hops providing notes of fall leaves, grass, pine, and citrus. Sweet bready malts add depth. Interesting body, beginning with strong bitter hops and fruity malt with apricot tones. Citrusy and leafy, too, melding into the complex hop tea suggested by the aroma. The palate never bores. Great IPA!
3.7 This beer was pretty good. Reddish color with a white head. Aroma was very earthy...tons of grassy hops, a little bit of citrus, and some dirty malt. Flavor was similar, except the malt came through more than I expected. This is very good...it really is kind of a extra bitter woman.
3.9 Amber beer out of the bottle with a fluffy off white head that left sheets of lace. JCapriotti warned that the hops may have diminished, but this beer seem just fine to me. Now I wonder what it like fresh . Predominate piney hop nose. Lots of bready malts supporting the grapefruit, apple sauce, orange rind and hop resin of this bold beer. So much better than I remember the Bitter Woman being.
3.9 12oz. Bottle Bitter Woman from Hell’s main body was a light orange but a more golden around the edges. Big 2+ finger creamy billowy head. Lacing is very sticky and lasts throughout the drink. It looks pretty good except it’s FULL of big particles floating throughout. I think this takes away from the appearance. It looks like it’d be clear except for the chunks. It looks like pulp floating in there. The smell is big on this beer. Tons of sweetened grapefruit. Must be where the pulp came from...There’s also a little dampness or mustyness coming through at the end. The taste is like taking a bite of grapefruit with some sugar sprinkled on top which is the main flavor coming through. It’s followed by a little earthyness into a assertive bitterness that pleasently lingers. The mouthfeel is good. Coats the mouth like it should. Not exceptional but good. I’m going to drink a few of these tonight. It’s a good drinker that leaves you wanting more. Sampled 10/1/06
3.6 12oz bottle via Bigadier. Pours a hazy copper/ amber color. Small off-white head that fades rather quickly. Malty, caramel aroma with a nice dose of hops. Medium bodied and well carbonated. Flavor starts with a drying hop bitterness...piney...floral...definitely a little dry & bitter. Well-balanced.
