4.0Bottle from a trade with MIBRomeo. Pours dark brown color with khaki head. Aromas of sweet brandy, caramel and oak. Flavors of sweet brandy, vanilla, oak, dark fruits, caramel and some alcohol. Medium to full body with moderate carbonaton. Thanks Chuck.
4.018th October 2008. Clear brown beer with a creamy head. Mild carbonation. Sweet malty beer - lovely balanced tones of vanilla oak and mild brandy. Semi dry brandyish finish. Very very quaffable!
4.2Bottle shared by BrianK, some time ago. Pours a dark brune body with a tan head. Sweet slick etoh with brandy notes, whiskey tones, and sweet vanilla and oak y warming. Hints of etoh latent fruit and a modest warming. Awesome.
3.812oz bottle thanks to TheCheeseMan. Pours a cloudy caramel brown with a half finger tan head that faded pretty fast. The nose is light tobacco, dark fruit, caramel and sweet brandy. The taste is similar with a some light vanilla oak tannins mixed in and nice brandy aftertaste. Medium mouthfeel. Nice stuff. Thanks for sending this my way Daniel!
4.0Iowaherkeye strikes again! Brown pour. Brandy, vanilla, wood, and caramel in the aroma. Flavor is boozy, with notes of caramel, brandy, bourbon, vanilla, and alcohol. Good stuff all around.
4.0Bottle shared by shigadeyo.
Poured hazy dark brown with a moderate frothy brown head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Heavy toasted, woody, vanilla and cherry with a small alcohol aroma. Medium to full body with a sticky texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy sweet flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of long duration.
This is a standout beer.
3.4Bottle. Pours dark brown with an average, fizzy, light brown head, somewhat lasting with fair lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (caramel, toffee, nutty), average hop (flowers, perfume), average yeast (earth, leather, broth) with notes of brandy, oak, plum, and brown sugar. Full bodied, creamy texture, average carbonation, and a bitter finish. Long duration, heavy sweetness, moderate acidity and bitterness.
4.112oz bottle. Very cloudy brown color, not much head too it. Sweet aroma, vanilla, some wood, can smell the brandy as well. Flavor is similar to the aroma, can taste the alcohol a little bit as well, this is quite smooth also, very easy to drink, very nice.
4.112oz bottle courtesy of iowaherkeye poured into a tulip.
Pours a dark mahogany in the glass that shows a hazy copper when held up to the light. An aggressive pour yields a small off-white head that recedes quickly to ring and leaves some delicate lacing on the way down.
The smell is fantastic with the base sweet malts but the brandy really comes out and mixes well with the base aromas perfectly. The sweet fark fruits also come out with figs and raisins and a hint of booze in the nose.
The taste is just as good as the aroma with a big sweet dark fruit kick up front and then plenty of caramel malts and toffee. The finish has the brandy coming out a little more.
The mouthfeel is very smooth with soft carbonation and plenty of barrel presence with a slightly dry finish and some alcohol.
This is a great brown ale, one of the best I’ve had recently. I love what the brandy brings to the table and turn this into a really original beer. Loved it.
3.812 oz. bottle, courtesy of Skyview. Murky, light brown pour with a thin, bubbly white head. Aroma of brandy, vanilla, and some roasted nuts. Sweet flavor, with of dark fruits, caramel, vanilla. Finish is clean with a bit of warming alcohol. Very nice.
4.02008 Bottle - Thanks buckybeer! - Pours a dk ruby brown with a small off-white head...aroma is sweet and fruity...flavour is malty barrel, vanilla, peat, caramel...no clue what the ABV is but is warming w/o a burn...another just crazily enjoyable Tyranena Wild brew...
4.312oz bottle from MotorToddHead. Thanks Todd! Your wonderfully insane! Wow. What an excellent sweet buttery oak aged aroma. Nice burn from alcohol and carbonation. Pretty cool Very good beer. Tyranena rocks!
4.1Poured a clear dark mahogany with a fizzy/frothy off-white head. Sweet aroma of roasted caramel, dark fruits, cherries, some brandy notes. Flavor follows and is slightly sweet with strong flavors of cherries and strawberries, toasted almonds and caramel, a bit of molasses, leading to a semi-dry complex finish. An excellent interpretation of a brown ale, and one that I would have again and treat as a barley wine.
3.7Toasty and roasty, with a good amount of dark fruit (raisins, plums, what have you). Earthy, dusky flavors toward the end. A little tough on the old coconut.
4.0Ruby red, dark brown appearance...nice white head.
Sweet nose, brandy hits right off the bat, plus sweet malt, nutty notes, ...rich maltiness, barleywine-esque.
Taste: bold, brash, bright. Dark malt, few hops, liquor has taken over, though very smooth. Dry, toasty oak flavor comes through. Full bodied, but not thick in the slightest.
rich and delicious.
I have to wonder how this was fresh. I got to try it courtesy of chocolatier & Tyranena fan who came to my bar for a tapping event. He had aged for about a year. Seems to have done wonders. This is beautiful.
4.07-12-08 bottle shared with lb4lb thanks to buckybeer
Dark brown pour with a good off-white, not quite ivory, head with very little lacing. Smell is brandy and oak and vanilla lemon cookies. Flavor is nice and like rich rum cake. Rich flavors and you can really taste the brandy and oaky earthy notes. Overall, very enjoyable.
3.9Bottle in trade from buckybeer. Thank you for this beer!
Pours a nice brown color with a creamy beige head. Smell is rich and fruity, with strong brandy smells and a brown toasty malt behind that. Taste is tart, lightly alcoholic with big flavors of brandy, a hint of cherry, and nuts, and fruitiness, along with the brown ale malt background. Some alcohol in the flavor inhibits drinkability, but I really still enjoy the flavor. Slightly creamy body, and a bit warming going down. Very nice beer.
4.0In short: Very woody and rather complex kind of Brown/Scotch Ale hybrid.
How: Bottle 12oz, 6+ months old. Graciously given to me by pzzle, thanks a lot Andy!!
The look: Clear ruby-brown body with a very small beige head
In long: Barrel quite apparent in this one but very well integrated with the beer adding woody notes without that overwhelming bourbon/brandy/whatever flavour. There are some brandy notes but they blend with the nutty and caramel flavours perfectly. Some brown sugar, some more wood, some milky black chocolate and some more wood. Somewhat fruity too but not single fruit standing out. Hints of vanilla. A high-class broad that was cheap to bring home, and when I was finished with it I didn’t lose my condo or had to give away half my salary. That’s my type of high-class broad.
3.220070428 12oz after TAPNY Very sweet stuff, heartily syrupy. Smells like wheat bread and hate dunked in honey nut cheerios. I have no idea what that means. Notes of chocolate milk and nuts redeem but generally too sweet for me.
3.4Bottled. A hazy reddish beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of caramel, dusty hops, and over ripe fruits. The flavor is sweet malty with primary notes of over ripe fruit.
3.8Looked like beer. One of the better smelling and tasting brandy aged brews to date. Sweet malt and brandy aroma and flavors, tagging along are some darker fruit and chocolate notes. Solid.
4.1Pours a hazy dark brown into my Kuhnhenn tulip. Small head with a few constantly rising bubbles.
Smells of oak, booze, and crystal malts.
Tastes sweet and brandyish. A hint of alcohol but it’s not harsh. Oaky finish. Full bodied, creamy, and smooth.
Great offering. I’m glad I got a chance to try this. I’m impressed with Tyranena far.
4.012oz. bottle, with thanks to boboski! Pours a clear cola brown with a sizable tan head and good lacing. Aroma is malty and a bit sweet, with lots of brandy, wood, brown sugar, and vanilla. Flavor is very smooth and mellow, with more brandy, wood, and vanilla; just a touch of alcohol warmth on the finish. Very drinkable and tasty; thanks again Jason!
3.812 oz bottle shared by fordest. Loved the smell of the smokey wood. Good flavors too.
3.812 oz bottle. Clear brown with decent head. Aromas of wood and a sweetness similar to chocolate. Flavors were decent too. More wood and hints of chocolate and some subtle fruity hops. Pretty good.
3.9Bottle - I’m honestly forgetting who this is from, but I think I have a couple of bottles from a pair of fine traders - thanks! Dark brown color with a small head. Aroma has some sweet brown sugar, candy, brandy and oak. Flavor is a pleasantly sweet and woody mix of caramel, brown sugar, candy, oak/woody brandy, and chocolate. Nice, smooth mouthfeel that isn’t overdone. Very unique and tasty beer from a brewer that really makes some unique, high-quality stuff.
3.8Bottle - courtesy of hopdog. Thanks Steve! Murky mahogany pour. Small fading tan head. Nose is sweet and candyish. Some chocolate, dark malts and alcohol as well. Taste is delicious! Brandy notes, some candy, sweet malts, woody notes, chocolate, and some nutty flavors as well. Body is thinner than I expected. Sort of a fizzy carbonation to this as well. Otherwise this goes down easy with a mild alcohol warmth. Finishes with more candy notes, brandy sweet malts, chocolate, wood, and nuttiness. This is great! I could drink this all night!
4.1Thanks to yjb for sharing this gem! A slightly hazed brown with a thin tan film of a head. Biggish alcohol with that alcoholic sweetness. Rather sweet. Full dark malt, chocolate particularly. Some strawberry maybe? Low carbonation. Not much viscosity, but not watery, perhaps a session style? Big sweet beer! Balanced with alcohol and fruity oak. Strawberry again? Big dark malt, nothing roasty, it’s a all chocolate and caramel. Lingering tannins. I hate brandy, but apparently I love brandy barrel aged beers!
3.8Bottle (12oz) shared with HogTownHarry & GregClow -- courtesy of HogTownHarry. Pours a hazy amber-brown with little floaties and an average size diminishing tan head. Aroma of wood, vanilla, sweet fruit, chocolate, alcohol and hops. Nice flavour of brown sugar, wood, roasted caramel, hops, alcohol and more -- mmm, so drinkable. Medium bodied. Can feel the alcohol but I can’t really taste it, it’s quite well hidden. Very good stuff.
4.3YUmmmMY! f(brandy barrel, porter, brandy barrel X porter) = great > f(bourbon barrel, imperial stout, bourbon barrel X imperial stout). filmy carbonation, oak. YESSS
