Tyranena BGW Paradise by the Dashboard Lights

Tyranena BGW Paradise by the Dashboard Lights

Next Brewers Gone Wild! Beer: Paradise By The Dash Board Lights - A Doubly Blessed Cherry Porter. Yes, another variation of an Imperial Porter. This one was inspired by a Cherry Stout brewed by Fitger’s that we tasted at the Autumn Brew Review in St. Paul... although I now have no recollection of how it actually tasted. Paradise By The Dash Board Lights was brewed with our base Imperial Porter recipe with the addition of 840 pounds of tart cherry puree. I think it has a nice tartness... and a nice level of cherry flavor. Everything changes after the yeast drops out, we filter the beer, and also once carbonated.

3.7 Bottle. Pours a black color with a small tan head. Has a roasted malty chocolate aroma with some weak hints of cherry. Fruity dry roasted malty chocolate flavor with hints of cherry. Has a roasted malty chocolate finish with some hints of cherry in the aftertaste.
3.6 Bottle shared by Sean, thanks! Poured black with a brown head that dissipated to the edges. Aroma was full of dark grains with a tart underlying cherry note. Flavor was similar with dark grains and bitter chocolate with just a bit of tart cherry coming out in the finish.
3.1 Not a great beer at all, not terrible, I wouldnt buy it again. I was expecting substantially more. Doesnt taste like it was a good base porter, the cherry only makes it worse.
3.5 The coffee flavor is almost stronger than the cherry. Pretty good even though I haven’t quite yet got the taste for fruit beers. Serving: Bottle
3.4 12oz bottle via trade. Pours darkest brown with a small fading light tan head. Aroma is slightly tart cherry with nice base porter notes - roast and dark chocolate. Flavor is similar. Nicely tart with cherries, roast, coffee, and dark chocolate. Low carbonation with medium body. Solid overall, but not quite as good as other Tyranena imperial porters.
3.9 Appearance: Dark brown/black body with slightly ruby corners. A small cola brown crown that rapidly dissipates and leaves the smallest ring of lace. Smell: As you would expect...roast malt and dark cherry notes! Not extremely pronounced but still quite enjoyable! Taste: Cherry soda like up front and roasty porter like in the middle before a lingering sweet/sour cherry finish. Besides the roasty note, this is quite black cherry soda like. Take a sip enjoy the ride! Mouthfeel: Perfect for what is going on here. Medium bodied and fairly crisp for a porter. Drinkabilty: The crisp mouthfeel and balance btw the roasty notes and the sweet/sour cherry makes it go down quickly, but at 7.50% abv this one still has legs. I really enjoyed this brew! 3.8 Courtesy of levifunk. Black pour with small head. Aroma of Dark chocolate, tart cherry, milk, coffee and nuts. Flavor of big chocolate, toast, peanut, cherry and burnt marshmallow. Nicely done
3.2 Pours deep brown/black with thin off white head, aroma is some coffee, chocolate, and a hint of cherry. I bet this was great fresh, but now the flavor profile is mostly coffee, some roasted malt, and subdued cherry flavors. Good brew!
3.6 Bottle shared at Noogfest 2009. Pours ruby color with an average frothy brown head that was lasting with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy toasted dark chocolate, dark cherry and malt aroma. Medium to full body with a thick smooth texture and flat texture. Medium sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. This is a good porter, sweet finish.
3.5 A: The pour is a very dark brown color with a thin ring of tan foam on top. S: The nose definitely has some cherries in there, but not too much else. There is some slight roast along with a nice sweetness. T: The flavor is also sweet with some pretty decent cherry flavor along with mild roast and chocolate. M: The body is medium with the carbonation a little on the low side. D: An easy drinking beer with some pretty decent cherry flavor. I suppose this might have been more impressive when fresh, but still quite enjoyable.
3.8 Bottle courtesy of Bockyhorsey. Thanks Bill! Dark ruby-brown pour with a small creamy ring of head. Aroma of roast, coffee, caramel and cherries. Flavor is nice, roasty and a touch of sour fruit. Good stuff!
3.9 (12oz bottle thanks to thickfreakness) Pours medium clear brown with nice creamy head and lacing. Nose of cherry, coffee, and roastiness. Taste of cocoa, light background cherries, coffee and a very creamy finish.
3.6 bottle thanks to thickfreakness. deep black/brown with a cream head. nose is cherries, malts, and chocolate. very nice on the palate with roasted malts, chocolate and a cherry finish.
3.5 [Bottle] This beer pours an opaque brown color with a tan head. Aroma of chocolate and roasted coffee. Roasted malts and grains dominated the flavor. More subtle vanilla, brown sugar and oak notes were in here as well. Easy to drink, with an average body and slight alcohol warming in the finish. I was a little disappointed by the lack of a stronger cherry flavor. It was still a good brew though.
3.8 Bottle. Deep, dark brown pour with a moderate latte head. Lovely aroma of caramel, chocolate, coffee and cherry. Flavor highlights the dark, bitter coffee/chocolate with only slight tartness from the fruit showing up in the finish. Low carbonation and a silky mouthfeel.
3.4 Dark mahogany with a medium beige head. Sweet aroma with hard roasted malt, chocolate and coffee notes. Flavour was sweet with hard roasted malt, dark chocolate and coffee notes. Finished sweet.
3.5 Bottled. Thx. to Santa Mike. Almost pitch black coloured. Red cleam. Dense brown head. Aroma of roast, sweetness, chocolate, spice. Flavour of roast, sweetness, chocolate, some liqourice and caramel. Medium to full bodied. Roasty and chocolaty light bitterness in the end.
3.7 12 fl oz bottle, courtesy of MadsBerg. Pours dark brown with a small off-white head. Aroma is dark breadish and roasted malty, Dark roasted and breadish malty flavoured. Dark roasted finish. Light citric cherry note into the far impression.
3.2 Bottled. A deep dark chestnut brown beer with a thin dark brown. The aroma has notes of malt, and caramel. The flavor is sweet wtih notes of malt, caramel, bread, and nuts, leading to a dry caramel finish. Thanks MadsBerg for sharing.
3.4 Bottle 35,5 cl. Courtesy of madsberg. Clear reddish brown with a small beige head. Aroma has sweet cocoa and a little coffee. Medium body, sweet roasted malts, vanilla and cocoa. A little malt bitterness. Decent but far from outstanding. 080210
3.4 Thanks to brian23456 for hooking me up with this one. A - Pours dark brown with a fizzle of head that disappears immediately. Ruby around the edges. S - Subtle roasted malt with a hint of chocolate and coffee. Not a cherry to speak of. T - Same roasted malt with the hints as above but more pronounced and the chocolate is a little bitter. A little bit of sweetness but not much cherry taste. A slight acidity that I kind of like. M - A little thin but the carbonation isn’t bad considering the lack of head. Smooth going down. D - I could have a couple of these. This is my first of the series and I think it’s very much an opening act. I can’t wait to try The Devil Made Me Do It! that brian23456 also sent me.
3.5 Bottles from thiesti and davinci shared @ a dinner party. Nose is black cherry soda, nutella and a lightly tart vinous smell that’s hard to place but well-integrated. Flavor starts with malty, slightly sweet milk chocolate, and then leads to a slightly tart cherry finish. Carbonation is pretty high here which spreads the flavor nicely, but makes it harder to pick out some of the subtelties of the fruit. Warmer - shows a little roastiness as well. All in all a unique, well done, very quaffable porter. Thanks, Tim and beejay for sending these my way.
3.8 Rating entry from Noogfest High Five. Very nice near black pour. Roasty light cherry nose. Cherry pie with black and red cherries. Very nice surprise!
3.5 wonderful head, fantastic lacing .. . light smokiness, light red starbust (we’re lookin for a red tip) .. . wonderfully mellow .. . i’m goin stumpin .. . very easy to drink, perfect balance .. nice stuff, tyranena is quality.. thanks john!
3.6 Dark brown, thin tan head. Sweet chocolate aroma. Very smooth mellow chocolate taste also. Medium thin body.
3.5 Pours a deep dark black cherry out of the bottle but appears pitch black and completely opaque in the glass. Thin beige head that immediately settles into a thin ring. Not much in the way of lacing. Sweet vinous aroma that is slightly roasty with a lot of sweet cherry and syrupy fruit notes along with hints of roasted chocolate malt, coffee bean, burnt toast and subtle lactic creaminess. Silky, malty medium body that is slightly and viscous and chewy with lots of chocolate malt, slightly roasted coffee bean, toast and oatmeal. All of this is lying underneath a very sweet, vinous cherry/dark fruit character that is slightly tart. The flavor and mouthfeel of this beer was a surprise based on the aroma. I thought that it would be cloyingly sweet and syrupy but this was prett complex with a lot of sweet and roasty malt character. The cherry presence is pretty sweet but is also slightly tart/sour at the same time. Might be a bit too sweet for some but I liked it.
3.2 @TBBC tasting Thanks Mrs D-12oz bottle-pours a light brown head and brown color. Aroma is cherry-dark malt-chocolate. Taste is tart cherry-dark malt-chocolate, some earthy.
3.7 10/31/2009: Tyranena Paradise by the Dash Board Lights (Doubly Blessed Cherry Porter)... Aroma: Black cherries, semi-sweet chocolate, a tinge of alcohol. Appearance: Extremely deep and dark brown in color; slowly gathering, but lasting tan-colored head; lots of very tiny carbonation bubbles rising to the surface in waves. Flavor: Highly roasted malts, char, black barley, espresso grounds; dark, bittersweet chocolates; the cherry is difficult to find - it seems to be there for a fleeting second right when the beer first hits the tongue, but it is pretty much washed away by the roasty maltiness; smooths out with less forward roast and more chocolate with a sweet milk/oatmeal stout flavor and hints of cherry as the beer warms; nice bitter bite in the finish. Palate: Medium to medium-full body, smooth and velvety texture. Overall: Not a lot (if any, really) cherry flavor, but the base porter is flavorul and robust. 12 fluid ounce bottle from Skyview via trade. Thanks Bob! Rating #139 for this beer.
3.9 12 oz. bottle, labeled as Tyranena Paradise by the Dash Board Lights Doubly Blessed Cherry Porter. Remarkably appealing and appetizing aroma of fruit chocolate (dark chocolate with tart, dark cherries). Scents of plum, roasted nut, and a dash of cream. Pours a rich, opaque, dark brown with a small amount of tan head. Some small bubbles noticeable. Decent lacing. Tastes like what it is, a good, solid, robust, milk chocolate porter with a cherry tang in the finish. Lemon flavor. Just the slightest hint of metal, which is unfortunate but not distracting. There are duel aftertastes: A nice tartness and a coffee dryness. Medium body. Soft and creamy in the palate. This is a refreshing, unique, and very good beer!
3.8 bottle courtesy of flandersned, thank you! pours a thinner brown with not much head to speak of. aroma is nice, but not big. pretty delicate, fine hints of cherries, just the smoothest part of burnt and smoke flavors come through as well. flavor is nice, the cherries are very subtle, not overpowering at all. they add nicely to only really the back end, but make a nice addition to balance the more bitter front feel. palate is slightly thin, but still a medium amount of body and creamyness. good stuff, can’t wait to try more of their beers!
