Tyranena Headless Man Amber Alt

Tyranena Headless Man Amber Alt

The Headless Man is brewed in the "old way" of a Düsseldorf-style Altbier. A unique cold lagering process gives this amber ale its smooth taste.

3.2 Pours bright amber with medium head. Aroma is full of caramel though a bit too much almost sickly sweet. The taste is sweet and citrusy with lots of malt. Doesn’t finish too well but still refreshing.
2.5 Bottle. Light amber color, clear, thin head. Musty malt aroma, kind of coats the mouth in an unpleasant way. Not a beer for me.
3.6 Appearance is a nice clear amber with maybe one finger of head. Aroma had caramel and maltiness. Taste followed up again with the caramel and a hint of candy sugar. Not too sweet but yet very simple. Mouthfeel was light with nice carbonation. A nice sessionable beer but nothing more than that.
3.3 bottle. amber with small head. light caramel malt, slightly sweet. light bodied and easy to drink, but not especially flavorful. decent for the style.
3.2 12oz bottle from Binny’s Lakeview. Pours a clear, copper-amber colored body with a finger-width, dense, frothy and foamy, beige head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is lightly sweetened, grainy, bready caramel malts with a bit of a floral fruitiness. Flavor is similar. Light grainy, nutty sweetness with a touch of bready caramel. Some floral fruits before this finishes dry and slightly toasty with a touch of sweetness and a light earthy bitterness. Medium length aftertaste following a smooth, light-medium body and a clean, moderate carbonation. Overall, nothing special, but a solid altbier. Very easy drinking and smooth. Not bad.
2.6 Pours a clear amber with with an off white head that quickly recedes. Aroma consists of mostly nuts and bread, with a little bit of caramel thrown in there as well. Taste is a little bit sweet with mostly the nutty impressions. Somewhat toasty. I notice a kind of medicine flavor, especially in the aftertaste. Thinner in body, actually watery to be honest. There isn’t really anything here that impresses me.
3.2 Pours cloudy brown-amber with a thin, slightly greyish tan head. Scent is sweet fruit, caramel malt. Taste is caramel, a bit of spice, nuts.. Tingly carbonation.....lively. Rather tasty....a good beer.
3.4 Tap at the brewery. Rating #202. Amber color with light toast and a nice malt sweetness. Good stuff. (2432)
3.3 Aroma is nutty malts and a some earthiness. The flavor is fruit, malts, earthiness and a generally smooth finish.
3.1 bottle - Pours hazy orange with a small off-white head. It has a light caramel and toffee malt aroma. The flavor is sweet malt with fruity tones and a mild bitterness in the finish. It’s medium bodied and overall okay.
3.0 Bottle. Sweet caramel malt, fruit, and rotted vegetal aroma. Clear copper with a small beige head. Dry caramel malt flavor with a vague bitter finish. Was a little strange to drink because it tasted fine, but I kept getting a whiff of that odd rotted smell, which was completely at odds with the flavor.
3.7 This is rich and delicious. This is impressive. Great sweet tasty body.
3.3 Heidel House Brewfest. Deep red in color. Light, skunky herbal hops, toasted malt, and caramel corn. Initial smooth grain-like toasted malt with light sweetness that fades to a resounding herbal noble hop bitterness. Bitterness smooths with time, but with some residual. Medium body.
3.3 Bottle pours deep amber with an off-white head. Aroma shows tons of toasted malt, toffee, dried peaches and hay. Flavor shows additional notes of nuts and a light herbal character. Overall body is moderate and the finish is lightly bitter.
4.0 Pours copper, or amber I guess, with a thin eggshell cap. Nose is awesome, sweet figs and dates, with some earthy and herbal hop tones. Taste isn’t as sweet as it smells, and it has a nice bitterness on the end. Palate is medium bodied, smooth, slightly sticky if somewhat thin, and refreshing. A really nice session beer with lots of character. Reminiscent of barleywine, but much much lighter of course. This is my favorite from Tyranena so far. I could drink plenty of these.
3.6 Pours reddish copper with a small light tan head. Nose is mostly malt and yeast. Very creamy on the palate with a nice complex malt taste on the front and a light hops note on the finish. An above average beer but not top tier. Pairs well with a variety of snacks including chips, pretzels and nuts.
3.4 Thanks ugh smash. Pours a clean copper amber with one to two fingers of sandy tan head. Nose shows lots of toasted and biscuity grain, very bready and slightly nutty with a herbal hop character. Bready and malt forward flavor with a leafy herbal hop character and a light caramel sweetness. Lots of toasted grain. Medium body with a light carbonation and light bitterness.
3.4 Sampled at an esbls tasting. Hazy clear brown with a light tan head. A grainy nose that teanslates to the taste. It is dry with light fruit. A nice beer.
2.8 On tap at the brewery. Amberish colour and a small head. Neutral aroma. Lots of caramel, little bitterness. Not so drinkable.
2.7 12 ounce bottle from Woodmans West Madison. Pours a clear copper color with a fizzy white head that fades quickly. Aroma of caramel, raisin and toasted malts. The taste is bitter and herbal with some toastiness. Medium bodied.
3.6 This beer is really pretty decent, but still nothing much to it. I like some more complexity.
2.6 Finally, my first Altbier! This one pours a cloudy dark amber in color with a white lacing around the glass. The aromas are very sweet. I’m picking up a lot of malt with light yeast. There is also some dark fruit apparent. The taste too is of sweet maltiness. It has a little fruityness to it but they’re hard to define. It’s kind of like a potpourri. It drinks medium in body and isn’t too bad. It isn’t too good either. This seems like a wannabe Belgian. It definitely doesn’t seem German. This one is average at best. I’ll have to try the Uerige Sticke next.
3.1 @Victors Fantasy Tasting-12oz bottle-pours an off white head and amber color. Aroma is light/medium fruit-peach, light/medium malt, some herbal. Taste is light/medium fruit, light malt, some herbal hops.
3.1 Bottle at Victor’s bracket box tasting at Paul’s. Pours a clear golden amber with a thin white head. Very sweet, toast and oxidized malt. Malty and sweet, oxidized and somewhat empty.
3.1 Nice balance of hops and malt give Headless Man a smooth, but not necessarily distinct, taste. Pours to a nice head that releases a faint chocolate scent. It has a medium body, creamy texture, light carbonation and a long, semisweet finish. An average entry from a brewery with several above-average offerings.
3.3 On tap at the brewery. Pours reddish orange with a small head. Aroma is a conflicting major fruit bombardment - oversweet - with some wood. Taste like a caramelly amber with a lot of wood. Not too thick and I would say not as complex as an alt would be.
2.7 Not much to report on this one. Pours like an amber ale. Nose is really faint but some malt and a scent of a freshwater fishing boat trauling for trout. Tatse has some malt to it but this beer is fairly plain. Not good or bad just plain
2.7 Reviewed from notes. Pours a moderate amber color with a bit of an off white head and some mild lacing. The nose brings forward some mild sweetness with a bit of caramel and bread. The taste doesn’t bring much more--a bit of dough, caramel, and toffee. The body is light to medium with decent depth. Drinks okay, but not a terribly eventful beer. 3.0 This is a lager-ish amber beer. I’m not sure if it’s really an alt but it’s closer than some that claim to be. The color is amber orange and the head is small and white. Light caramel and toffee notes are up front in the nose which also has a bit of toasty character and some very mild herbal hops. There is a nice, firm bitterness to this brew but it’s unfortunately just a twinge metallic--not enough to ruin things but enough to be distracting. There is a nice floral hop and slight sweet malt character to mostly make up for that though. It’s a light to medium bodied beer w/ rather low but still prickly carbonation. Some of the flavors here imply a bit of sweetness but it actually seems very dry overall. Finish is long w/ a bit of grain husk astringency. This is a pretty good beer whatever it is.
3.0 11/28/10. 12oz bottle with big thanks to cbfobes for this hard to find style! Pours a clear dark amber with a small fluffy off-white head that fades to a ring and goes away fast. Light hints of caramel, biscuits, and light fruits in the aroma. Light burnt toffee flavor that is rather one dimensional and also hints at rubber or plastic... a bit of an odd one... glad to have tried it!
