Tyranena Rocky's Revenge Bourbon Brown

Tyranena Rocky's Revenge Bourbon Brown

Rocky’s Revenge is an American Brown ale with a portion aged in bourbon barrels.

Deep in the darkest depths of Rock Lake prowls a great saurian known as Rocky. The legend of Rocky is old. The ancient inhabitants of Aztalan warned of the beast by building a giant serpent mound at the lake’s edge. The early residents of Lake Mill were forewarned of a guardian placed in the lake to protect its sacred stone tepees. And history tells of numerous encounters with Rocky, who became a source of worry and fear. Although not seen for a century, divers still experience a feeling of dread and being watched. Enjoy Rocky’s Revenge, our offering to this legendary protector of Tyranena.

2.9 Bottled. Nice brown, rich pour. White head. Body is cloudy, featuring a little caramel in the nose, but not that sweet. Flavor is a mild toasted caramel malt.
4.0 Pours a clear but dark brown color with khaki colored head. Roasted malts, oak, vanilla, some light whiskey notes, and a little caramel on the nose; follows onto the palate. Medium to full bodied. Finishes with roast and caramel woody sweetness.
3.7 Bottle at Hilton Chophouse, MKE. Nice wood aroma. Dark brown color. Adequate head. Wood flavor was pretty good, not too much. Med body. Overall, a nice interesting beer.
3.1 Tap - small foamy head, dark copper color, sweet malty aroma and flavor, fair size sweet bourbon notes, very little hop balance, ok overall but a little too sweet for me
3.6 Bottle. The pour is a dark amber with a thick head. The aroma is more whisky than bourbon imo. The taste is a good mix of booze and that of a brown ale.
3.3 Bottle 35,5cl / Botella 35,5cl. @ Woodman’s Food, Onalaska, WI, USA A: Hazy amber / Ambar turbio. T/S: Roasted malt, caramel, sweet, chocolate / Malta tostada, caramelo, dulce, chocolate.
2.9 Clear loght amber color. Aroma of vanilla and cocoa. Taste is boozy caramel. Light body.
3.3 On tap in Chicago-- Pours cloudy brown with thin tan head. Nose is bourbon and cold tea. Aromas are wood, bourbon, fruits. Low carbonation, thick texture. Medium body, low carbonation. Medium vinous finish.
3.5 On tap at Howells & Hood (Chicago, IL). Brown hazy body with a thin off-white foamy head. Well balanced malty/hoppy aroma with woody, brown sugar and vineous hints. Good malty/hoppy taste with oaky, grainy, fruity, and cocoa notes. I was expecting stronger bourbon flavors. Ends with a decent bittersweet finish.
3.7 12 oz bottle from De Bierkoning @ home. Twist off cap exploded from the bottle as I twisted it off, hitting a glass out of my spectacles, luckily I was wearing them or I would have missed an eye. Not gushing though. Deep red-brown color, clear. Big uneven beige head with good retention, sticking to the glass. Aroma’s of bourbon, vanilla, red fruits, light wood, sweet malts. Retronasal it’s sweet, red fruits, some bourbon/vanilla. Flavor is moderate to full sweet, vanilla. Light to medium bodied. A bit high carbo. Finishes with a bit of roasted malts, just hints of bitterness. Imo bourbon usually goes better with the higher strength beers, this was actually well done and went down well as a dessert.
3.5 Bottle. Brown with large tan pillowy head. Aroma roasted malt, vanilla, and brown sugar. Medium body, brown sugar, low hop bitterness, roasted malt, a hint of bourbon. Not much hop presence for an american brown but I liked the subtleness of the bourbon.
3.4 On tap at Hopleaf. Pours a dark brown colour with a frothier tan head, quite cloudy. Slight roasted malt aroma, a little nutty with some slight caramel sweetness. Taste is somewhat sweet and malty, slightly dry as well. Medium body, soft carbonation, and smooth on the palate. Overall a decent brown ale.
3.4 On tap at Happy Gnome. Pour is clear brown with small egg-shell colored head and decent lacing. Cookie malt, some cocoa, light spice, some cinnamon, roasty, and toffee in the aroma. Taste is brown malt, toffee, ripe prunes, grapey, light toast, and cocoa. Medium body with high carbonation. Not bad.
3.5 Draft. Reddish-brown color with tan head and substantial lacing. Toasted malt aroma with hint of bourbon spice. Lightly toasted biscuit with faint hint of bourbon alcohol. Sweet with a slight bitter bite in the finish. Medium mouthfeel.
3.5 Caramel, smoke, toffee, vanilla finish. Not much bourbon flavor. Brown sugar. Bitter.
3.5 Bottle. Pour is light brown with a medium white head. Aroma and flavor of light caramel, light brown sugar, toasted malt, milk chocolate, and slight bourbon. Finish is thin with a hint of vanilla.
3.2 Tasted from bottle. Pours a clear dark brown with off white head that quickly fades. Not much lacing. Faint aroma of caramel and toffee maybe a little bourbon. Taste is moderate sweet with mild bitterness. Toffee, caramel, biscuits, maple and a faint bourbon taste. Definitely not as much bourbon as I expected. Pretty good for a brown ale. Definitely sessionable beer with pretty good flavor.
3.5 Bottle. Pours hazy chestnut, small tan head, some lacing. Aroma is bourbon, vanilla, toffee. Flavor is lint plus sweet, very light bitter, a bit astringent, nutty, dark bread, a bit harsh. Medium body.
3.5 Decent for a brown, but not much bourbon to be found. Still good enough to drink more, though
3.3 12oz bottle pours a dark amber/brown with a medium khaki head. Fruity aroma with caramel and cocoa, oaky vanilla, and a touch of bourbon. Oak and bourbon are on the forefront of the palate with sweet caramel malt underneath. Yep bourbon in a brown ale.
3.2 12oz. bottle. Aroma of sweet brown malts, nutty with touches of bourbon, hazelnut, vanilla, dark bread and brown sugar. Clear medium brown in color with a nonexistent head and therefore no lacing to speak of. Flavor is similar to aroma, except with a touch more hop bitterness than expected, nice nutty malt finish, some hop spice also. Thin and effervescent mouthfeel, body is medium. Touch of earthiness late. Interesting stuff.
3.6 Bottle. Brown pour with tan head. Malty tones, light oak and sweet aromas. Roasted and sweet malt flavors, chocolate and oak.
3.7 12 oz stubby poured into rocks glass. Mostly clear brown body with red highlights and a tan head. Some retention and a bit of patchy lace. Barrel notes of bourbon and vanilla, roasty and caramel malts, a touch of chocolate. Taste is bready with caramel and roasted nuts, some vanilla and cocoa powder. A good balance between these sweet and bitter components. Medium body, moderate carbonation, creamy texture, bitter oak and roast finish.
3.7 2oz taster on tap, at HopCat Broad Ripple. Clear orange red color. Thin off-white head, leaves good thicker lace. Good vanilla, nutty aroma. Kind of toasty. Medium body. Mild caramel. Smooth, kind of crisp, light soft, lighter carbonation, kind of creamy texture, lightly slick. Moderate sweet taste, lighter bitter. Mild earthy kind of spicy hops. Nice brown ale.
2.4 Not my thing. A deep chocolate color, with a foamy white head. A brown ale with a hint of bourbon. I am sure this is good if you are a fan of the style, but I am not.
3.5 Bottle. Deep red-brown, low off white head. Aroma of sweet chocolate, light bourbon notes. Flavours of chocolate malt, vanilla (Maltesers come to mind), light rounded bourbon notes. Medium bodied but balanced, on the sweeter end of the spectrum. Decent.
2.3 Julie say smell horrible taste okay has a malty taste. Julie gives a 2
4.5 A very nice beer. Just more of a sipping beer for me. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!
3.1 Bottle brought back from Wisconsin by my lovely wife. A: Solid mahogany with a firm fluffy off-white head. Lacing. N: Pecan, toffee, hint of bourbon, vanilla, and coconut. Dominated by sweet biscuit. Cocoa, roasted coffee beans, and hints of char. T: Nose is quite nice. Palate picks up light malt and light bitterness. Disappointing here. M: Quite watery. Light body. O: Not sure what the disconnect is between body and nose, but it’s not altogether enjoyable to drink from the bottle.
3.8 12 oz bottle shared by huhzubendah, thanks Matt! Pours a clear dark brown with light easily passing as ruby hues on the glass. White bubbles line the rim, head is nearly nonexistent. Aroma is caramel malt, light vanilla and toasted walnut. Flavor is sweet: classic brown ale, bourbon caramel, and sweet malts. Thin bodied, medium carbonation. Only 5.7%? This tastes like at least a 7.5%.
