Uerige Alt

Uerige Alt

Uerige Alt is Germany’s richest bitter beer. Nevertheless (or even for that reason), this legendary old-fashioned beer is so full-bodied and aromatic. Our top-class specialty has been brewed since 1862 from water, barley malt, caramel malt, roasted malt, clusters of hops - and with our very special Uerige yeast. Our Uerige Alt is regularly selected among the ten best beers in Germany. It has an alcohol content of 4.7% and a minimum freshness of eight weeks.

3.0 En försmak av julen med torkade frukter och en hel del kryddnejlika. Mycket bäska som rundas av med en söt, kryddig och välbalanserad karamellmalt.
3.3 Brown color, small beige head. Aromas of bread, syrup, dried fruit, nuts and juice. Taste of malt, nuts and resin.
3.6 Bottle, courtesy of Erzengel, shared with Undos and Gabor Gábor at Ganz. Korrektul balanszoltak a kenyeres, kekszes es karamelles malatas jegyek es a kisse foldes, gyogynovenyes kesernye. Konnyen ihato, mar-mar crispy.
3.4 AR: malzig, Karamell, Hopfen, kräuterig, grasig, brotig AP: klares (rot)braun/Kastanie TA: bitter, kräuterig, Hopfen,
4.0 Tap at the brewery. Clear light brown with a large off white head with fine retention and lace. Light bread, herbs, malt. Light body, little sweetness, dry and bitter finish with lingering malt notes.
3.7 From resealable bottle (BB Dec'21) in lager glass. Pours deep reddish brown, w/dense beige head that gave splotchy lacing. Caramel malt driven up front w/long firm bitterness to close, lively CO2. Nice
3.6 Tap. Brown with a light beige head. Aroma of spiced singed toffee. So it tastes with firm - decisive - bitterness at the end. Good.
3.5 Old rating from 2001 - From the tap at the brewpub. Pours dark amber with a white foamy head. Aromas & tastes of caramel, nuts, toffee, herbs & toasted malt. Medium body. Moderate bitter finish
2.8 Bottle at home, Nivala. BBE Feb 2021 so 1 month too old... Aromas and flavors: Some bread, some chocolate... yep its old.
3.9 Pours dark amber, borderlining light brown. Not too easy to tell, but still looks clear. Small to medium sized but pretty dense and nicely persistent slightly off-white head. Not very strong but very well refined aroma: caramel and nutty notes among a background cola-like feel. Notes of herbs/bitter radishes in the back. As mentioned, very delicate and well-integrated, somehow even quite refreshing. Taste notes follow the aroma. Caramel and nutty malts base, a bit of cola-like feel, herbs and bitter radishes, maybe slight liquorice. Complex but very well defined and integrated. Overall, medium to high in both sweetness and bitterness, with perfect throughout taste and aftertaste and a dry, slightly astringent finish (kind of tea-like). Quite light in body, with average, fine-bubbled carbonation. Feels pleasantly smooth and even quite refreshing on the mouth. Excellent drinkability. Excellent beer overall.
3.7 Brown body with lasting white head. Malty aroma. Rich malt taste with a bit of toffee and bread. Malty not too sweet finish
3.5 Brown color with off-white head. Aroma has caramel, dark bread, toffee and ripe fruits. Taste is malty sweet with long quite sweet aftertaste. Flavors of caramel, toffee, grass and chocolate.
3.8 Brown with a ruby tint, nice white head. Aroma of dark fruit, slightly toasted malt. Taste is quite intense for the ABV, dark berries, caramel, hint of bitterness.
4.0 Bottle given to me from a friend. Pours a deep reddish brown colour with a medium sized creamy off-white head. Nice lacing. Aromas of dark fruits, caramel, roasted malts and toasty bread. Taste has more upfront roasty and toasty notes. More caramel and also added notes of nuts and leather. A nice bitterness on the finish. Full bodied and a nice amount of carbonation on the palate. Excellent beer.
3.5 Thanks Shu for sharing! Taster showing amber brown with half a finger of clean white foam. The nose shows moderately intense and clean notes of malt with hints of light hops. The palate is well carbonated and light bodied. Clean with light notes of smoked malt and a hoppy bitterness on the finish followed by more grainy malt.
3.6 On tap at the brewery. A wonderful stop to kill a day in Dusseldorf as we waited for the Germany v. Italy Round of Four match in the WC 2006 the next day. Truly enjoyable.
3.4 Bottle from Beers of Europe. Pours dark amber/ruby with small white head, clear. Aroma of roasted malts, grain, rotten leaf. Tarty/acidic taste, full body, long finish, average carbonarion. Not too bad.
3.6 Bottle from Beers of Europe. Brown poor without much head, plenty of caramel malt, hints of spice, citrus. Nice.
3.1 On tap in Zum Uerige in Düsseldorf. Deep reddish brown colour, white foam. Toasty and caramel malts, a slightly spicy and earthy hop note, light bitterness. A classic Alt for sure, although I tend to find Alt a style which ends up sitting between a bitter and a lager and does the job of neither too well.
4.0 Diesel coloured with a frothy head. Grainy smell with a roasted malts note. Bitter, refreshing taste with a roasted caramel note. Medium carbonation.
3.0 ok but not much flavour. are they bottling something different for NA?
3.6 Pours dark brown with small off white head that leaves lacing behind. Floral aroma. Medium body with average carbonation. Bitter finish. After taste is pleasant and lingers in your mouth. Taste of caramel at beginning.
4.3 munich amber colour with great white head. caramel, piney, herbal, resiny hops. are these noble hops?? burnt notes, strong bitterness, toffee. thin body but wiry and viscous enough. good deal of additional character with tiny bits of smoke, iron, medicine. good beer. i consider this underrated because i can taste the brewing involved in this. long mash n boil.
3.8 Pours up a clear amber color in the glass, with a thin tan head. Super rich barnyard funky leather aroma. Tastes deep and rich with caramel malts, and the same leathery organic flavor. Great beer.
4.0 Clear amber pour with a resilient amber head. Very leathery aroma and flavor. Lots of caramel and toast notes. Pumpernickel bread. Not sweet. Lots of continental hops grace the long malty finish. Excellent.
3.2 Aromat słód, chleb, zioła, owoce, chmiel. Barwa bursztynowa, piana średnia. W smaku słód, zioła, owoce, chmiel, chleb, przyprawy. Goryczka średnia, wysycenie średnie. Dobre.
