Ugly Duck Hopfest

Danish: Vi fejrer i den grad humlen. Denne sagnomspundne lille blomst der er kilde til så megen glæde og fornøjelse. Vi holder en fest for humlen. En Hopfest. En i den grad massivt humlet IPA. Vi har puslet med en ny måde at humle øllet på, men først til Ølfestivallen ved vi om anstrengelserne har båret frugt.

3.8 Bottle. Pours hazy orange amber with small off-white head. Clear aroma of hops and grass with notes of citrus. Intense, bitter, hoppy taste, with notes of citrus and a touch of malt. Lemon peel in the aftertaste, otherwise bitter and hoppy. Nice.

4.1 Bottle @ home from Vinmonopolet. Ahhh, excellent aroma on this one! Hoppy with citrus and tropical fruits. Looks like a classic IPA, golden with nice big head. Tastes fruity and very hoppy. Not too bitter, well balanced. Nice bitterness in the aftertaste.

3.8 It’s hazy dark golden/dark amber with a creamy and lasting head. The aroma has notes of loads of fruits like peach, oranges, strawberry and melon. The mouth feel is fairly flat. The flavor has a light sweetness and notes of peach, mango, citrus, melon and other exotic fruits, and the finish is slightly dry and bitter.

3.8 On tap. Cloudy orange with orange head. Aroma sweet malty, slight caramel, fruit, pineapple and pine. Taste is rich, bitter, caramel and very fruity.

3.9 Sample at SBWF 2013. Hoppy smell, fruity with some citrus. Similar taste. Nice long bitterness. Sweet maltbase but still light. Very nice.

3.4 Sample at SBWF 2013. Golden with a white head. Aroma and taste of fruit, grass, some bread and light berries. Quite crisp and easy to drink. The finish was bitter. An ok beer.

3.5 # 3430 ersma: die dänen sind ja sehr h. c. andersen-affin. manche anscheinend so sehr, dass sie ihre brauerei nach einer geschichte benennen. orange-bernsteinfarben und trübe. oben sitzt ein gewaltiger schaumberg, dessen stabilität mehr als ausdauernd ist. der geruch ist süßlich und sehr fruchtig nach passionsfrucht, orange und reifer birne. der antrunk ist bitter und fruchtig-süßlich. tannennadeln, nasses heu und grapefruit sowie orangenöl. zur mitte hin zieht die bitterkeit kurz an, um dann aber langsam bis auf ein grundniveau abzuklingen. süßlich und malzig mit fruchtigkeit bleibts bis in den abgang. hier mehr herbe anklänge sowie orange und birne. die flasche ist ok. teilweise schwer lesbar aufgrund der vielen gezeichneten hopfendolden. fazit: primär fruchtig mit nicht so ausgeprägter bitterkeit. das ist auch mal ganz angenehm, wo es sonst immer um viel ibu geht. probierenswert. 13,11,10,11,9,11 - 10,95 - 19/9/13

3.6 Bottle from Vinmonopolet Bestilling enjoyed at home Orange hazy, big dense beige head. Smells of zests, citrus, resins, hints of wood, a bit of spice and malts. Moderate sweet, quite clean, citrus. Heavy bitter, a resin bomb. A very nice ipa from Ugly Duck. Keep them coming

3.6 Orange beer with big foamy head and lots of lacing. Tropical fruits but where’s the bitterness and hop flavors? Sweeter type of IPA with mainly tropical fruits, not much else. Not bad for an hophead like me, not the ideal IPA.

4.3 @ Havregatan. Flaska från Backe Vin, Helsingör (30 DKK). Riktigt frisk och härlig doft av humle, tropiska frukter, grape. Massor av tropisk frukt och grape även i smaken. Medelfyllig, mycket beska och lång eftersmak. Det här gillar jag!

3.5 Bottle from fish and beer, copenhagen. Little hazy amber red color, small white head. Aroma is fresh hops, fruits, some malts. Taste is fresh hops, malty body, sour notes, quite balanced.

2.1 Appearance: Lovely cloudy orange golden color with a big foamy white head that leaves a fine lacing. Aroma: Rich tropical fruity and a bit hoppy. Palate: Medium + body. Sweet and a nice bitterness. Soft carbonation. Taste: A completely heavy tropical fruitiness that almost kills any other flavor. Some harse hopps in the back. The strong fruity flavor also mask the alcohol very well. Overall impression: The heavy tropical fruity juice kills this beer totally. Personal stats: On tap at at Øltorget in Oslo, Norway.

3.4 En fantastisk arom som tyvärr inte följs upp av samma smak. Mycket blommor i doften . Smaken saknar mycket i mellanregistret. Inledningen o avslutningen är helt ok.

3.2 Bottle 33 CL at Pikkulintu. Pours golden with minimum lacing head. Notes of lemon, citrus, hops. Alcohol well hidden. Needs more taste and character. Very easy to drink.

3.4 Bottle 33 cl. Pours golden in color with a small head. Floral notes, wild strawberry sweetness and mild soapy notes in aroma. Grassy bitterness and some mild berry sweetness in taste. No sign of the relatively high abv though.

3.4 (Bottle). Aromas of hops, tropical fruits and citrus. Tastes tropical fruits, especially citrus like grapefruit, crisp bitterness in the finish.

2.8 (Flasche) Es hat eine goldene bis getreidiggelbe Farbe, ist opaleszierend mit einer weißen Schaumkrone. Das Aroma riecht nach Mandarine und Pfirsich. Der Geschmack ist süß, schwer und leicht alkoholisch.

4.0 Kopparfärgad färgad med medium högt ljust skum som stannar kvar länge! Massor med humle! Krispig precis som jag gillar! Köp!!

3.1 330ml bottle (Kitty’s, Helsinki) Sweet mashy aroma, some cookie cutter hops too. Sticky palate, sweet and mashy. Nothing interesting here, just alcohol, sugar to cover the alcohol, and hops failing to cover the sugar. Meh. But drinkable.

3.5 Bottle at bar. Hazy orange color, white head. Bittersweet taste with citrus, apricot, grass, floral hops and resin. Bittersweet finish with apricot and a bit of pine. Very unique, refreshing IPA.

3.2 Draught@CPH BF 2013. Ambery golden colour with a mediumsized slightly off-white head. Aroma is a bunch of fruity and floral hops along with some mild spruce an a bit maltyness as well. Flavour is spruce, some fruity and floral gops along with some bready and caramelly notes.

3.8 Bottle at home. Pours a clear light amber with a big off-white head. Sweet and dry with lots of hops aromas. Hopsprofile is floral with some pine. Medium bodied. Medium to high carbonation. Bitter and hoppy finish.

3.5 (Bottle, 0.33 l - BBE 19-02-2014, at Pikkulintu, 201306025) The bee poured deep amber and quite clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had pine and resin. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were fruitiness, pine resin, pine, malts, sweetness and bitterness. Aftertaste was hoppy and bitter. A well balanced American style IPA.

3.8 330ml bottle from bestillingsutvalget at Vinmonopolet. Next to clear golden body. Two-finger sized, almost white, head with a solid stand and lacing rings to the glassware. Super fresh aroma of peaches and mid-dry, grapefruit. Filled with fruity flavours of grapefruit, lemon and peaches. Rounded bitter ending of citrus shells. Very refreshing and moreish (Tromsø, 15.06.2013).

3.6 Bottle. Clear amber beer with a small offwhite head. Hoppy and sweet aroma. Sweet hoppy flavour.

3.6 .33l bottle @ Vihreä Haltiatar Pours clear amber with medium to high head. Aroma is hops, exotic fruits, mango, pineapple..., citrus fruits. Some malts. Flavor is sweetish malts, hops. Some alcohol. Nice beer.
