Uiltje Big Fat 5 Double IPA

Uiltje Big Fat 5 Double IPA

A more commercial brewer – one, say, with an actual marketing depart- ment – would direct you to the trophy case and say: Look, Big Fat 5 has been awarded Holland’s best Double IPA three times. They’d say: Big Fat 5 is a lean, mean, award-winning machine. Drink it and you’ll be a winner, too! But Het Uiltje doesn’t have a marketing department, just an in-house team of nutjobs which uses words like ‘turbid’ and ‘intransi- gent’ to describe this classic double IPA. Unpasteurized, unfiltered and wham-bammed with 5 heavyweight hops: citra, simcoe, chinook, amarillo and Cascade. Big Fat 5 is a typically extravagant American-style IPA with an intense fruity finish. It won’t make you pucker; it’s too syrupy for that. But there’s enough hops to put a smirk on your pretty little face.

4.2 Can from brewery webshop, pouring slightly hazy golden, with generous white head, retaining well. Aroma is firmly hoppy, in mix of fruity and resinous. Taste is also lots of hop bitterness, lasting until a long aftertaste. Simply a very nice, exemplary DIPA.
4.0 Can from Marko, thanks a lot! Cloudy, mudden color and a nice white head. Ripe tropical and floral aroma. Taste starts with caramel, lots of fruits and a hoppy flavor. Full body, fruity and piny. Bitter-sweet and long lasting hoppy finish.
3.4 Thanks markoijelena for sharing! Mild hazy golden body with a minimal vanishing white head. Aroma is citrus hops, resinous notes, honey and mild malty notes. Taste is bitter, hoppy, lots of resinous notes, a bit of wet socks. Long hoppy finish. Medium body soft carbonation oily texture
3.6 0,33l can. Pours slightly hazy golden. Malt, pine, citrus. Hint of alcohol, bitter finish.
3.3 Smell of hops, raw fruit. Hazy amber colour, white head. Aroma of spruce, grapefruit peel, some tropical fruit in finish. Starts off very barbed bitter, smoothens later. Notes of herbs also. Fizzy carbon. Rather light body for this ABV.
3.6 An light orange beer, a head is small and blond. Aroma has grapefruit, lime, low mango and fructose. Taste has strong grapefruit, medium bitterness, hint of herbs in the end. Medium bodied. Could be fresher, but whatever, a good beer.
3.8 Cloudy, golden yellow colour with a creamy white head. Malty, piney aroma. Bitter, hoppy and fruity, malty, crisp. Low medium body, medium carbonation, smooth mouthfeel.
4.0 Despite the 8% volume, this beer goes down smooth and easy, great taste and equilibrium
Carbonazione bassa.
3.4 How: Draught. Where: BeerTemple, Amsterdam. Appearance: Orange colour with an off-white head. Aroma: Malt, caramel, hops, citrus, fruit. Body: Medium body and carbonation. Flavour: Malt, fruit, caramel, hops, citrus, oranges.
5.0 For better or worse Amsterdam has a reputation that it feels it has to live up to. Nothing here is done by half. So at 8% this beer will keep the pants pulled down of any stag do/lads holiday, no matter how brightly coloured their Mankinis are. Beyond its ABV the Dutch are an intelligent people who have an artisan history that dates back centuries. This is firmly reflected in their brewing. Indeed this micro brewery is situation literally in the shadow the Heineken Behemoth across the river. They were never going to be bad at New Wave a Craft brewing and thus it proved. If Erasmus was alive today he would like this beer
3.5 330ml can pours cloudy amber with fine off-white head. Aromas of simcoe hops, tropical fruit and herbal characters. Tastes of pine lime, treacle, canned apricots, caramel malt and alcohol. Rich syrupy mouthfeel. Plenty of lemon rind bitterness in the finish.
3.7 330mL can from International Beer Collector 8%ABV PKG 31/05/19 Pale gold body, fair haze, creamy white head paints lace in its wake. Typically West Coast US hops on the nose - pine in abundance, grapefruit, pineapple with toasty, cracker biscuit malt in good measure. Good full body, chewy malt with an oily hop resin, long persistent lingering finish. Lovely malt body upfront - pale toast, watercrackers, hint of vanilla, with big American hops punching in with plenty of grapefruit rind and pine sap lending a firm bitterness to boot. Another ripper of an IPA from Uiltje - bit long in the tooth, but still tasting great!
4.0 On tap at Proeflokaal Arendsnest, pours a clear golden with a small white head. Aroma brings out big resinous hops, a little pine, some stone fruits, and caramel bready malt. Flavour is more of the same, with a big wallop of resinous hops, and just enough caramel malt to back. Very expertly balanced, even if a bit more on the malty side for my tastes. Excellent.
3.7 mało intensywny aromat, średnia goryczka, ciut wodniste ale dobre
4.0 Can at cinema. Orange color, middle foam size. Really decent and good balanced beer. Drinkable and fits into style.
3.6 Tap na One More Beer Festival w Krakowie. Ocena wystawiona na podstawie wspomnień z degustacji. Mango, marakuja, w wydaniu przejrzałym, słodkie, goryczka mogłaby by być trochę bardziej szorstka.
3.2 Not a bad double IPA but there’s a bit too much going on with the hops. Instead of complexity, the hops are very flat.
3.9 Ekstra na zakończenie ipka. Lekko mjodzio, fantastyczna średnia goryczka. Pode mnie
3.6 Tasting sample One More Beer Festival 2019. Solidna goryczkowa, stosunkowo brakuje nachmielenia.
3.9 Draught @ Arendsnest Aroma has fruity hops, fruit juice and pineapples. Flavour has grapefruity hops, fruit juice, minerals and some caramel. A BrewDog-like DIPA. Tasty.
3.6 Słodkie, tropikalne, przejrzałe owoce zarówno w smaku jak i w aromacie. Pełne, gładkie.
4.0 Draught at OMBF 3 Aroma-grapefruit, lemon, orange Appearance-golden, hazy, white head Taste-medium bitterness, light sweetness and sourness Palate-medium body, sticky, average carbonation, long finish Overall-very good
3.7 Data zapuszkowania 31.05.2019. Wygląd: złote, klarowne, o pianie drobno-pęcherzykowej, wysokiej na jeden palec. Aromat: dużo nut żywicznych, troszkę grejpfruta, jakieś cytrusy nieco słodowości. W smaku mocno grejpfrutowe, żywiczne oraz ziołowe, minimalnie słodowe. Wytrawne.
Wysycenie niskie, sporo ciała, alkohol niestety wyczuwalny. Ogólnie jest to dość ciężkie piwo. Może być.
3.8 Can from Alko Arkadia, Helsinki. Pours hazy golden with a little white head. The aroma features strong and sweet tropical, citrusy fruitiness with a touch of pine; orange, apricot, grapefruit. Taste takes off sweetish, becoming later more bitter and hoppy. Flavours of exotic fruits dominate, orange and grapefruit are strongest, some pine as well. Gives surprisingly juicy vibes for a west coast style ipa. The palate is medium to full bodied and smooth, average carbonation. Tasty and very drinkable.
4.1 Pours a a slightly cloudy, deep golden coloration with a small, fluffy head. Smells of biscuity, caramel malt and citrus/tropical hops of grapefruit and pineapple, with quite a resinous pine note as well. Taste is a great balance of biscuity, caramel malt and quite resinous citrus/tropical hops, with notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple and pine. Finishes with a strong bitterness and some resinous pine and grapefruit notes lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium bodyand carbonation. This is basically the imperial version of their Bird of Prey West Coast IPA, which is quite a bit more resinous and bitter, with the citrus/tropical notes also feeling a bit more intense. Quite an enjoyable Double West Coast IPA that's big on the piney, resinous and bitter flavors.
3.5 Jasne złoto, delikatnie zmętnione, piana mało obfita, drobnopęcherzykowa, zostawia lacing. W aromacie dużo zielonego chmielu, żywicy, nieco nafty, cytrusów, melona, jasnego słodu, ciasta drożdżowego, odrobina alkoholu. W smaku cytrusowe, grejpfrutowe, mandarynka, żywiczne, sporo nafty, melona, nieco mango, nieco łodygi, ziół, jasnego słodu, odrobina chleba. Goryczka średnia do wysokiej, dość długa. Nieco alkoholowe. Pełnia odpowiednia. Wysycenie średnie do niskiego.
4.0 330ml can. Orange with a slight haze, off-white head. Aroma is resinous, piney, orange. Taste is the same, very resinous and piney, citrus, orange, grapefruit, malts, caramel, quite bitter. Medium body. Pretty decent DIPA.
