3.5 Bottle, 6%. Very dark brown with medium beige head. Aroma is roasted malt, chocolate, hop, herbal and caramel. Flavour is roasted malts, chocolate, caramel, hop, medium sweet, little pine, herbal, little coffee, little bread and a little bitter.
CONCLUSION : très grande black ipa … Le hibou a bien fait de sortir de son bois (bosuil) pour nous la faire partager. Nous en sommes fiers, ravis et tout à fait reconnaissants …
4.3 Deep dark brow colour with ruby notes and huge dense beige head; aroma of dark chocolate, toasted bread, citruses and herbal notes; taste is similar to the taste with some spicy notes; very good black IPA
4.0 DAA; Bottle 33 cl., from Vinmonopolet. Pours moderate, full of sediments, black with a frothy, lacing and lasting, light tan head. Nose is moderate to heavy, toasted malt, grapefruit, moderate dried dark fruit, coffe, chocolate and light citric, tropic. Taste is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter, balancing with a somewhat lasting dark fruit, grapefruit, light chocolate finish. Body is medium to full, texture is oily to creamy, carbonation soft.
3.2 Bottle. Dark brown, average to large and mostly lasting light brown head. Moderate, malty and lightly sweetish aroma, light - some caramel and some roasted - faint burnt malt, faint fruitiness with some piney hoppyness. Body is light to medium, malty and lightly sweetish flavor, some roasted malt and some piney hoppyness. Finish is short to average, malty and dryish - lightly sweetish, light caramel and some roasted malt - faint burnt malt, some piney hoppyness. Bit thin BIPA, also too much caramel for me. Nice head though.
3.6 33 cl bottle at home. Appearance: black with eggshell-white head. Aroma: soapy citrus, coffee, blackcurrant, grape, spruce. Quite fruity. Taste: above medium sweetness with great bitterness. Notes of dark roasted malts, coffee and peach. Palate: medium bodied, watery texture and lively carbonation
4.1 Pours into a very dark black with a lasting head. Very nice small like very sweet liqourice. Tate brings the IPA heritage but with a bittersweet twist with aroma’s of roasted malts, hops and liqourice. Nice mix of carbon and oiliness. Very nice beer!
3.6 KØLF 260216. Dark brown colour with a beige head. Aroma is malt, pine, coffee. Flavour is roasted malt, coffee, pine, citrus, caramel, bread, sugar. Medium body. Nice beer.
3.2 Goede black ipa. Zacht bitter, stoutig, bitter in de afdronk maar toch met een zacht zoetje. Goede black ipa.
3.5 Bottle at home. It pours black with a huge beige head. 90% of all Dutch beer has this flaw somehow. The aroma is roast and licorice with piney hoppy notes. Seems somewhat over carbonated. It has a roasted and piney flavor with licorice notes added to it.
4.2 Bottle from ShivanDragon. Thanks! Dark colour and stable head. Quite assertive hoppiness all around - aroma, bitterness, and flavour. Roast is actually kept almost nonexistent and the focus is on grassy and resiny hops and light caramelly malt. Maybe light light chocolate. Very good.
4.0 Bottle shared by Gurthnar. Dark brown color with huge light tan head. Aroma is nice hoppy, citrusy, zesty, resiny, light roasty, light coffee with floral notes. Solid malty backbone with nice hoppy kick
5.0 Woow, beauty in a bottle. The color of the beer is beautiful. The beer is a very dark ruby red, almost brown. There is some cloudiness in the beer. On top of the beer a beautiful layer of soft, rough light brown foam. The foam remains on top of the beer for a tremendous amount of time. I live a soft layer like this on my beer. It’s amazing. The smell of the beer is lovely. It’s so much more than just an IPA. There is a lovely smell of citrus fruits. This gives a sweet and fruity aroma with a sour twist. It isn’t as strong as in most IPA’s. The reason for that is that there is so much more to smell, I don’t think there was any room left. Besides the fruity IPA there is a delicious aroma of sweet, lovely chocolate. There’s also smoked, roasted barley, and some hints of coffee, but the chocolate aroma is the strongest. This is beautiful in combination with the IPA aroma. The roasted barley aroma also has something salty to it. I could snif this up all day. The taste has the same beautiful combination between IPA and stout like dark tones. The IPA flavor is bittersweet, slightly sour and has a nice citrusy aspect. Besides this, there is a lovely dark flavor of sweet chocolate, coffee, and roasted barley. This gives the beer a nice salty bitterness. This all is in perfect balance, sweetness, sourness, bitterness and saltiness. There aren’t a lot of beers with a balanced smell and flavor like this, especially not when there are so manny individual aromas and flavors to detect. It’s lovely and I want more.
3.4 Black color, light beige head with good retention and nice lacework. Aroma is roasty, light hoppy and coffee notes. Flavor is mild bittery with a high presence of roasted malts. LIght bitterness in the final wwith short duration.
3.7 Bottle from Hopology. Black colour with a thick foamy tan head. Aroma is chocolate, citrus orange spice. Taste sweet chocolate orange.
3.9 Bottle. Love this brewery and love this beer! Very fruity with some dark fruits. Sweet. Bitter. Just great!
3.7 330 ml bottle. Clear, dark brown body with a big, creamy beige head. Fine aroma of caramel malt, biscuit, roasted toast, citric fruit and piny hops. Flavor has a nice maltbase with caramel, biscuit, some fruit and nice bitterness. Balanced body and good, smooth aftertaste with some bitterness. Nice one, probably closer to a hoppy brown ale than black IPA. Like it anyway.
3.3 Bottle from Vinmonopolet’s BU. Dark brown to black body. Tan head. Liquorice, alcohol and dark fruit nose. Quite dry. Medium body, medium carbonation. Malt, dark chocolate, some coffee, some citrus and orange flavour. Fruit. Apple. Mostly bitter, some sweetness. Could use a bit more body.
3.5 Brown to black, small head. Aroma has roasted malts, a bit citrus. Tastes citrus-like, and hoppy. Also some roast. Nice one.
3.6 Bottle. Pours dark brown with a big off-white head. Aroma of crackers, pine, some citrus, caramel and some roasted notes. Flavor is sweet and malty with some citrus, pine, caramel and licorice. Medium body, soft carbonation.
3.8 On bottle from Vinmonopolet Norway, on order (BU). Dark brown color, good foam. Medium/high aroma intensity; hops, malt, coffee, roasty, dried fruits, choclate and some vanilla. Medium/full body & complexity. Good bitterness and balance. Very enjoyable
3.9 Bottle from Vinmonopolet, Kvadrat. Pours very dark brown with a huge creamy beige head. Aroma is malty, bready with some resiny and citrus hops. Smooth & creamy mouthfeel. Taste is light sweet malty, cocoa and chocolate with a decent dry grapefruity finish, long weak roasty finish, very good.
3.5 Dark brown color, beige head. Roasted malt nose, apricot, coffee, apple. Resin taste, grass, moderate bitterness, roasted malt, light fruity. Medium body, soft to average carbonation.
3.6 Bottle. Very dark brown with an beige head. Aroma with pine and citrus is nice but a bit underwhelming. Taste has smooth liquorice, spruce, bit of grapefruit. Light sweet, medium bitter, thin oily texture, medium body, low carbo. Lingering pine and liquroice finish. Good stuff.
3.2 Bottle dark brown body with tan head. Aroma is roasted malts with hints of citrus and grains. Taste is roasted malts with hints of fruits and liquorice. Aftertaste is roasted malts bitterness with some sweetness. Maybe to old.
3.6 Bottle at home, 23rd December 15. Pours chestnut brown, large foamy head. Aroma is muted, soapy. Taste is cocoa, some tingly hops. A little basic, would like more hops, not bad though
3.9 Dark ruby pour, tall head with some retention. Feint coffee and cocoa in the nose, along with some other stuff that I could not identify. Hints of coffee and dark chocolate when you taste it, citrus hops, bitter and salty. Very high carbonation yet smooth in the mouth, making for a refreshing drink.
3.9 Kolor rdzawo hebanowy, bardzo ciemny, piana gęsta i utrzymująca się, niezbyt zdobi szkło. Zapach mało intensywny, cytrusowe chmiele i czekolada. W smaku głębokie ale dość łagodne, mocno owocowe, pomarańcze, mandarynki, owoce leśne, okraszone nutami czekolady, kawową kwaśnością i nieznaczną palonością. Goryczka niska grejpfrutowo - ziołowa.
3.9 Almost black, very fruity and hoppy. Mango, pineapple, citrus, some pine, roasted malts, coffee, liquorice. Mainly bitter with some sweetness in the middle. Backlog from 2014/04/15.
3.6 Ultra-dense beige head over deepbrown beer. Hoppy, dark malts, yet quite sweet aroma. Hoppy rather than bitter; dry, dark malts, husks, dry leaves. Hints at black chocolate. Medium bodied at least. Quite well-carbonated; dry and slick. Quite good in taste, as in style profile.
