4.0 Tasted at home last Sunday, A small bottle from Beer Ammo in Gong Guan. Aroma: plenty of malt, some liquorice, very inviting. Appearance: opaque and practically black, tan head rapidly dissipates to lacing. Palate: medium-bodied and oily, average carbonation, extremely long and complex, malty finish. Taste: heavily malted, salt, iron, more liquorice. Very, very boozy, a fine brew.
3.7 Bottle shared at Cotteridge Convention 2017. Cheers! Pours clear brown with a small, creamy tan head. The nose holds light smole, Band-Aids, leather. Medium sweet flavour with some oily chocolate, strong smoke. Full bodied, chewy, with fine carbonation. Lightly warming finish with more smoke, cocoa. Good one.
3.5 Bottle in 2018. Roast, coffee, dark chocolate, blackberry, subtle vanilla, light sweetness, medium bitterness, creamy body, tobacco, mineral note. Complex yet not too deep flavourwise. But very tasty nonetheless.
3.9 The beer has got a deep black colour with a steady head and smooth body. Aroma of chocolate and coffee. Taste of bittersweet chocolate, cream, cookies, plums, coffee and barrel. Smooth finish.
4.3 AR: Schokolade, Leder, Lakritz, Schinken, kräuterig AP: schwarz(braun) TA: Leder, leicht salzig, leicht rauchig, Kaffeesatz, kräuterig
3.1 Bottle. Dark color with minimal beige head. Aroma of dark malt, chocolate, peat. Taste, dark malt, coffee, alcohol, too much caramel, peat. Medium bodied, not éry imperial, besides alcohol.
3.7 From tap. Black color with beige head. Malty aroma, roasted, coffee caramel, dark dried fruits, figs, light soy. Sweet and bitter taste. Medium oily body with soft carbonation.
4.0 Black with a small head.Full bodied and powerful with traces of coffee and chocolate. Amusing label and an excellent beer.
3.1 33cl bottle at Lagunitas Tapkabinet, Amsterdam on 21-Jun-2019. Close to black in colour with a small beige coloured head. Smoky aroma of roasted malt, liquorice root, burnt toffee and spices. Full body with medium carbonation. Taste is smoke, malt, caramel, petrol with a strong alcoholic kick. Not the best balanced imperial stout.
3.9 330ml bottle, couple of years old. Pours almost black with a tan head. Aroma of roast malts, dark chocolate, brown sugar. Taste is sweet, chocolate, brown sugar, roast malts, caramel, toffee, dried fruits, slight smoke. Medium-full body, soft carbonation.
4.0 33cl bottle from Beerwulf Webshop. F: medium, tanned, creamy, average retention. C: black, totally opaque. A: rich dark malts, roasted tones, bit smoked, dark caramel, dark dried fruits, cocoa, bit dark chocolate, woody touch. T: dark malts, dark dried fruits, dark cherries, smoky touch, dark chocolate, coffee touch, bit like woody or peat, toffee, bit vanilla, full body, lower carbonation, very good balanced, enjoyable IS.
3.8 Black body with tan fast disappearing head. Aroma roasted malts smoke peat. Taste is malts peat smoke roasted malts. Aftertaste is nice balanced.
3.1 Dark brown. No head. There is a fair bit of barrel on the nose, which is funny because apparently this isn't the bourbon version. It's a bit thin on the palate, with a smoky accent, some nuts and a bit of oxidation.
3.4 330mL bottle, pours a deep dark brown / black with a small beige head. Aroma is loaded with tons of soy sauce upfront, followed by smoked malt, and toasted notes. Flavour is along the same lines, with lots of soy sauce and smoked malt that dominate. There's a sherry-like oxidation in here that underscores the soy sauce and smoke. Not overly refined, but it's pleasant enough.
Leckeres Imperial Stout!
4.4 L: -pours the darkest of brown with no light coming through and a small, foamy, beige head S: -dark chocolate, coffee, caramel, molasses, floral T: -dark chocolate, coffee, caramel, spicy, toast, syrup F: -medium carbonation -medium body -alcohol noticeable O: Great dutch Imperial Stout.
3.9 Clear very dark brown pour with a thin tan head that leaves in a hurry. Coffee, dark roasted malts, burnt sugar, chocolate, vanilla, plums, salty black licorice and mostly caramel aroma. Over medium bitter sweet with a hint of saltiness. Medium to full bodied with a little amount of carbonation. Yummy, extremely delicious stout. Lovely.
3.1 330ml bottle at Matt's. Appearance: dark brown with a tan head Aroma: a bit fruity with peat and roasted malt notes Taste: same Overall: ok, if you like islay whiskey (that I don't really like)
4.0 Bottle from The Gull, North Vancouver Black colour. There is some smoke in the aroma, mild, a bit earthy, barn, chocolate. The body is not too strong, but it has a good flavour of chocolate, moderately sweet, with delicate smoke flavour. It's not complex, but it's very enjoyable.
3.3 330ml bottle @ home. Pours a mostly opaque dark brown colour with a small tan head. Nose is toasted malt, some smoke, and mild cocoa. Flavour is spicy, cocoa, smoke, and some wood. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, and a mild sweetness with a moderate bitterness.
3.6 Roast and dark chocolate. Jet brown with a small brown head. Chocolate and nice cocoa with a touch of wood. Bitter finish and quite nice.
2.4 Imperial stout de 10,5 % abv. Mon exemplaire pouvait attendre juin 2022. (5/3/4/2/10)
4.3 Black, thin caramel head. Black bread, caramel, vanilla, malt, ripe pear. Coffee, malty, good balance between bitterness and sweetness.
3.4 330ml bottle shared with Geri and Stefano at a private tasting at za razBIRAchi. Pours opaque with a thin, brief head that soon settled to the surface, some spotty lacing, no visible rising carbonation. Dark brown in colour. On the nose, coffee, vanilla, chocolate and caramel with the promise of some yeasty sourness. In the mouth, sourness from the first sip, dry, mild carbonation, no alcohol presence, flavours similar to the aromas, some bitterness mingled with the dry sourness before a crisp finish. Overall, crisp and clean but sourness just isn't needed or welcome in an Imperial Stout.
3.7 Keg at Cafe Beermoth, Manchester. A deep brown to black colour with a medium tan head. Aroma of coffee, dark fruits, some brown sugar, chocolate, wood and subtle tobacco. Taste of coffee, dark fruits, slight tobacco, brown sugar, a little chocolate and subtle spice. Medium bodied an moderate carbonation. A bittersweet, spiced tobacco bitterness in the finish. Quite tame for its strength, complex aroma and flavour but not lived up to its hype.
3.6 Tobacco and smoked notes on the nose, smoked bacon, some cocoa, black with a good tan head, medium/full body, average carbonation, again smoke and tobacco notes in the mouth, roasted malts...not bad.
4.4 Tap at uiltje bar, Haarlem. Very dark color, looks black, thick beige head. Big flavor of chocolate, coffee, toasted malts, hints of spice wood earth and candy sugar, licorice, vanilla cream. Thick body, soft carbonation, very dense and complex. Finish mild alcoholic with noble liquor aftertaste. Nice slow sipper.
3.7 Pours dark ruby/black. Nose is strange smoke. Definite tobacco. Ketchup, fish, damp oak. Palate is moderate to full. Taste is very hoppy with red wine, heavy tannins, light chocolate, earth, tobacco leaves.
3.7 June 2018. 330ml dark bottle, unfiltered, from BeerWulf. 10.5%. Sgt Night Vision. I fancied a strong dark beer and this suits me fine. Smooth and easy drinking. Sweet enough and roasty enough. Yes. This does the job and hits the spot. I'd buy this again sure enough.
