First brewed in small batches annually to commemorate Uinta’s anniversary, this soul-warming brew is now available year-round. (Uinta’s anniversary is observed and noted by the change of the roman numeral on the label.) Uinta’s award winning barley wine has a dark amber hue with a rich malty character. Serious amounts of hops are used to balance its hardy alcohol content of over 10% ABV.
Originating in England in the nineteenth century, barley wines are brewed with the same traditional ingredients as beer: water, malted barley, hops and yeast. There are no grapes or fruit used in the brewing process. The name “barley wine” refers to its alcohol content being similar to that of most wines, ranging from 8.5% to 14% ABV. Unlike most beers, barley wines age remarkably well. If you have the will power, set an Anniversary Barley Wine aside for a year or more.

3.90,355l bottle @ One Pint Pub. Pours very dark brown with a medium head. Aroma is lightly roasted malts. Flavor is roasted malts, alcohol and hops. Good.
4.0Dark, mahogany color. Big , yellowish head. Aroma of malt, dried fruits and pine. Balanced taste with sweet malty beginning and refreshing, hoppy bitterness at the end. Some fruity notes also present. no signs of alcohol in taste.
3.4Poured from bottle into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a hazy copper color with a small fizzy white head. The head fades rather fast leaving just a tract of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell- The aroma is quite sweet and bready with the sweet being of a brown sugar and molasses smell. Along with these aromas comes some other smells of a grape and slightly herbal and grassy smell.
Taste – The taste begins with quite boozy taste mixed with tons of breadiness and sweet caramel and darker fruit flavors. As the taste advances even more sweetness comes to the tongue along with some lighter dank hop tastes and a rather strong grainy/grassy taste. Toward the end the booze ramps it up even more leaving one with a very sweet and bready hot taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel- The body of the brew is very thick and chewy with a carbonation level that is quite low. For the rich and thick, heavy sweet, and boozy tastes the feel is rather nice and helps keep it a slow sipper.
Overall- Ah… A bit too boozy and sweet for my liking of a barley. Not bad, but not great either in my opinion.
3.7Amber/pink, clear or hazy, pink foam, pretty bottle lable. Pronounced alcoholic, barnyardy and bready nose. Full body, smooth texture, foamy, intense flavor, hot mouthfeel, lingering aftertaste. Assertively bittersweet, crisp, bitter finish. Herbal, hoppier than most other barley wines, malty, fruity, pears, yeasty. Characterful, assertive.
3.6Very dark brownish-red with a tan head. Sweet malt, caramel, and dark fruit flavors. Raisin, fig, cherry. Full and smooth. Not too heavy.
3.3Carmel malt very smooth and mild. Nice dark color rich full head. Not as hoppy as others.
3.5Bottle->snifter. Deep amber with bare lite tan head. Caramel malt, toffee, mild hops. Some booze come through. Pretty standard BW stuff here.
3.1Amber color. Caramel malt, brown sugar, fruity hops, citrus pine. Unbalanced taste profile of sweet malt on the one hand, and bitter hops on the other. Bitter finish with too much alcohol.
4.0Bottle pour into tulip glass from One Stop Market. Aroma is strong bready and caramel malts with floral and fruity hints. Mildly astringent. Appearance is hazy dark reddish-orange with discernible floating sediment, minimal sparkle, finger-width fluffy beige head with fair retention and nice lacing. Taste is much like aroma with front half sweet malt and second half yielding to more nuanced fruit notes and some citrus. Palate is medium bodied with thick, sticky texture, esophageal warmth and sweet, long finish. Overall, avoids being overly sweet and has a bit of hop complexity.
3.5Pours orange to deep brown with a beige head, aroma of of cheese, lemon, lemon grass, pomelo, flavor is bitter with marmalade, orange and alcohol, medium bodied
4.6Aroma: caramel, citrus, dark fruits
Appearance: clear amber with a beige head
Taste: medium sweetness, medium bitterness,
Palate: medium body, creamy, average carbonation, bitter finish,
Delicious
3.9Bottle from Bethesda Food and Beverage. Dark brown body with slight, tan head. Nose is sweet, barley, toasty. Flavour is caramel, malts, honey. Really nice barley notes. Warming finish. Good stuff.
2.8Bottle - Pours copper with a filmy light tan head. Nose is pretty sharp and boozy with lots of pine and citrus hoppy notes. Taste has a big caramelly bready body with some yeasty dough and more grass/pine/citrus hoppiness. Slick and medium-bodied with medium-low carbonation.
3.7Strong Grapefruit, pine hop aroma with malt notes of licorice, plums and bread. Appearance is a light brown with an off white head. Flavor has a strong grapefruit, pine hop flavor. Malt flavor is bready with notes of caramel. Mouthfeel is medium full with medium carbonation. Overall, it's a pleasant tasting American barleywine.
3.3Subdued aroma of grapefruit and caramel. Pours a caramel Color from bottle but sits deep amber in glass with a of white didn’t head with some retention and good lacing. Palate is soft and smooth, fairly light body. Malty flavor with slight charred character and mild bitterness in finish. Not my favorite.
3.8Aroma - sweet caramel malts and some dough, as well as some honey.
Appearance - tenne orange body, with nice nucleation. Head is off-white and starts at 1/2" and fades slowly. The head settles into a nice layer of foam. There is some dappled lacing.
Taste - sweet malt, with burnt sugar, alcohol, some honey, saffron, and Columbus hops.
Palate - body is closer to full than medium, the texture slightly oiled and also slick, the carbonation average, the finish has a some bitter hops and astringent alcohol.
3.7I poured it from the bottle into a pint glass. It pours a dark reddish color with an off-white head and some lacing. The aroma is boozy with hops and fruit. The taste is bitter hops, dried fruit, alcohol, and wood. The alcohol is noticeable and warming. This is a good sipping beer. It’s definitely a heavy hitter.
4.2Deep reddish brown. Nose full of toasty malts, caramel, dark fruit, raisin, grapefruit hops and mild pine. Flavor is more of the same with toasted malt, raisin, caramel, and bitter grapefruit. No booze to be found. This was outstanding, very surprised by the other ratings.
2.9Not the best Barleywine I've had. Tasted a little yeasty. (Was old though.)
3.4Anniversary XV. 2008 vintage 12 oz. bottle from the Brick Store Pub. Dark brown, with a medium, beige head. The aroma is burnt caramel, toffee, brown sugar, pine, and some rotting leaves. Sweet and roasty flavor, with some light bitterness. Heavy body, syrupy, and a little astringent. This is an interesting barley wine. Dank hops and very roasted. Not that bad, just strange.
3.4Nice color, and head, especially for the abv. Reddish and cloudy but that is okay by me. Off white head. Some retention. Fruity nose, subdued, a bit of caramel. Nice mouthfeel, initially syrupy, and carbonated, then very swiftly some hoppy character kicks in and it is quite a nice treat, not one of the sickeningly sweet barley’s.
3.712oz bottle from the Malt Shoppe in Tosa. Cellar aged 4 months and served at cellar temperature. Pours a reddish brown with a beige-orange head leaving some streaky lace. Aroma has dark fruits, sweet fruits, caramel, pine. Fruity and tangy, in an "American Strong" way. Taste is of sweet caramel, sweet dark fruits, light nut, and heavy pine. Quite hoppy, very tangy fruity. Medium to full bodied and surprisingly low alcohol presence for the abv. Finishes sweetly fruity and tangy, and long. Nice, hoppy brew. Not too barleywine-ish, more like a caramelly American Strong to me. Good stuff! 14.2
2.8Aroma is sweet caramel malt, bready, light roast with nice citrus hopping. Appearance is dark brown with a bit of orange, small head. Taste is malt forward, caramel and dark malt, strong hop bitterness present as well but way malt forward. Palate is medium full with some alcohol heat. Overall not bad but lacking some of the complexities would want in the style. A little one dimensional, not sure I would want to age this one like you would want to with many other young barleywines.
3.3Bottle shared at a tasting at our place. BBOTMC. Murky red-brown. Rich dark fruit aroma with prune, a little sugary. Full body, quite carbonated, long, dry and bitter finish.
3.6Some caramel, a hint of citrus and a fair amount of booze. Pours brown with OK head. Light sweet finish with some boozy bitterness. Some light florals and citrus. Average carbonation. Bottle.
3.2At a tasting, thanks, small stable light brown bubbly head, very cloudy dark red to light brown color, aroma of dried fruits with some citrus, flavor of dried fruits, quite strong but pleasant sweetness medium bodied and suprisingly light. Pleasant.
3.2This is a strong beer full of malty grain flavors. Its a bit to bitter and hoppy for me.
3.6Pours a hazy dark amber with an off-white head and lacing. Malty aroma with a hint of caramel and vanilla. The flavor is malty with some smokiness, toasted malt and a burnt finish with some hop bitterness. There is a a medium full body that lingers on the tongue.
3.6A very nice barleywine overall. Pours a beautiful deep red with a thick tan head. Smells of caramel, barley and other malts. Taste is thick and boozy, with caramel, vanilla, and a sharp, sweet finish. Had in the bottle.
3.7Let this Barley Wine warm from Uinta to get the true spectrum of flavors. Strong hop biitterness backed up by a solid wall of malts. Well rounded English style Barley Wine. Picked up a 2014 vintage 4-pack this past Spring @ State Line Liquors.
