Uinta Kings Peak Porter

Uinta Kings Peak Porter

Named after the highest point in the State of Utah at 13,528 feet, Kings Peak is located in the Uinta Mountains, a major east-west mountain range in northeastern Utah.

Kings Peak Porter lives up to its name by being big on flavor and complexity. It pours a rich, dark mahogany hue and is complimented by a creamy tan-colored head. Dark chocolate, toasted malt, and coffee may be detected in its nose.

2.5 Bottle shared with clocks. Pours a light blackish- brown body with thin off white lacing. Aroma is watered-down coffee, light malt, some roast and spice. Mouthfeel is watery and thin with notes of muted cocoa, bitter roast, light malt and coffee. The flavor profile really suffers from the mouthfeel/body of the beer, as everything becomes pretty muddled.
3.0 Roasty barley malt aroma. Dark brown, poofy high elevation head. Lactic taste, malt seems a little undercooked. Very smooth but lightweight body.
2.8 Everything screams subtle when describing this beer - low alcohol, faint roasted aroma, soft chocolate taste, & a borderline thin palate. Certainly drinkable but a porter needs more umph & complexity. It’s ok.
1.9 Appearance: clear cola brown that shows deep purple when backlit, with a creamy light tan head and good lacing--looks nice, if a tad light-bodied. Aroma: smells great--dark chocolate, roasty coffee, vanilla, and a hint of green wood. Taste: AWFUL--mineral water, thin chocolate milk, dusty coffee. Finish: watery and thin, with a hint of lingering grass . Notes: What a terrible letdown. I love this brewery, and they make probably the best American schwarzbier of all time. I was really looking forward to this beer. After the aroma, the taste was incredibly disappointing. This is probably the most watery porter I’ve ever had. How did this even make it past quality control?
3.0 Bottle @ The BeerMongers... Poured deep town with a nice retaining, tan head. This was meh. Thin, watery, some sweetness, mild toasted malts and nutty characters. But overall lackluster and subpar for this style.
3.2 12oz bottle. Small tan head atop cola dark brown body. Aroma is moderately sweet, coffee, some caramel, light bittersweet chocolate. Taste is moderately sweet, milk chocolate, some coffee, light anise. Creamy light-medium body.
3.0 Black pour with tan head. Light aroma, roast malt and coffee. Flavour is light for a porter, roast, a little chocolate. Good but not great.
3.7 Poured from a 12 ounce bottle. Lots of chocolate and roasted malts. The body is thin for a porter, but I have seen this win medals as a Schwarzbier. Flavorful and easy drinking. Best consumed at the highest peak in Utah, Kings Peak.
3.5 12oz bottle. Light for a Porter, amber-brown body. Thin oily head. Medium bodied, light Porter. Chocolate, amber malt, caramel. Quite mild, the ultimate US session Porter, or UK XXXtra strong Porter :). Like a a chocolate brown ale, or schwarz at times. Tastes nice.
3.5 Draft. Dark brown, light tan head. Lighter porter but not weak. Good flavors, medium body, nice finish. Good beer.
3.2 June 2011 from bottle. Chocolate, coffe and malty aromas. A bit thin and watery, but still with nice flavors. Just so many better options out there.
3.8 Serving: 12 oz. bottle from State Line Liquors. It pours a very dark brown with slight ruby highlights. The nose has a nice roastiness to it with a light hint of coffee. Easy drinking with a slight nuttiness, light roasted notes, and hint of coffee. Light to medium body with a medium finish. I was surprised to see this one rated so low for the style. I thought it was nice little session brew.
3.8 Very dark brown, clear, beige head. Clean roastiness, a nutty note, light caramel, nice balance. Very drinkable, clean and well made.
2.8 12 ounce bottle. Barely translucent dark brown color. Small brief beige head with clinging lace. Subtle roasted malt aroma with hints of cocoa and brewed coffee. Upfront flavor is mild coffee with notes of charcoal and roasted malt. Finish is lightly hopped with a mild smokiness. Overall, an average American porter that is perfect for those looking to aquatint themselves with the style. For aficionados, somewhat lackluster.
4.0 On tap at the public house. Crazy coffee taste. Beautiful beer. Loved this one
3.4 Single bottle purchased from a Utah State Liquor Store in Kimball Junction, Utah on 11/03/2012. Colour: Extremely dark brown with sizeable head. Nose: Burnt coffee, asphalt, very very dark cocoa, traces of over-ripe plum, and even some late almond. Taste: Medium-light sweet, medium-light bitter, medium-light sour. Charcoal, hint of root beer, late burnt bitterness but it just doesn’t pack the punch that a solid porter should. Mostly bark, not a whole lot of bite.
2.4 Bottle from Mari’s. Pours black with some light coming through. There is limited head and minor carbonation. The aroma is lactic with some semblance of light chocolate notes. Decent roasted taste but there is a slight aftertaste.. some coffee in there. Watery. Not a great porter..
2.2 Dark brown witha hint of red. Medium brown head. Aroma is roasted malt with a hint of bread. Taste is roasted malt with a bitter finish. Thin, watery mouth feel.
2.6 chocolate, molasses, alcohol, black, clear, minimal head, medium bitterness, light body, thin feel, average carbonation
4.0 Roasty malt aroma and flavor; kind of chocolate-y, and sort of a "burnt" character (I mean that in a good way). Well balanced with some caramel and sweet flavors. Moderate bitterness. A little astringent, maybe? Maybe my favorite American Porter.
3.2 black coloured body with a off white head a roasted malty hoppy aroma a malty little caramel coffee fruity sweet taste with a sweet bitter finish
3.1 A clear dark brown colored beer, with a thick foamy beige head. The aroma of coffee malt, with a little roasted malt. The taste of a little coffee with dark malts. The aftertaste is sweet with bitter roasted malt.
2.9 The aroma is very weak. Smells of coffee and malty. Pours a dark brown with tan head that leaves quickly and does not leave any lacing. Taste is malty with a black coffee after taste. Overall to bad. A little thin and not much to look at.
3.6 Bottle found in my beer fridge of unknown origin. A well constructed porter. Sweet and full of goodness. Easily drinkable and not distracting. On the darker side with just the right ammout of coffee for my liking. Easy finish a bit on the watery side.
1.9 Yet another beer picked up outside Bryce Canyon from Ruby’s Inn general store (at stupidly high prices). Poured into my plastic toothbrush tumbler after a days hiking in the canyon. Sadly I didn’t really enjoy this beer as much as some from Utah. The smell was a weak chocolate aroma, mixed with dirty washing water (yes, I’d cleaned the toothbrush tumbler, but thanks for thinking I hadn’t). The body was dark and the head tan coloured, low retension, no lacing. The taste and body were both thin and boring, I could find no hop content and found the beer poor in almost all aspects, sorry.
2.8 Pours dark brown, with thin tan head. Not much aroma, thinly of malts. Taste is smooth and drinkable, but not really noteworthy. Thin is the most apt word. Not a thumbs up, but better than macros.
3.1 Nose is subtle roasty malts, some coffee, and a surprising dose of smoke. Pours black, not very opaque, tan head with decent retention. Light roast flavor, earthy and smoky, some coffee, dry finish, slightly bitter. Light-medium body, medium carbonation.
3.1 Pours a dark brown/black with a thin white head. The aromas are plum, chocolate. The mouthfeel is watery
3.1 Draft. Dark black/brown pour no head (bartender way of hooking up...). Smell is dominated by roasted dark malts and hints of cocoa and coffee. Not over exciting drink with mainly the roasted, toasted malts on the taste.
3.2 From a bottle poured a dark brown color with a fair amount of head. Toasted malty flavor with a quick finish.
