Ultra Ambrée 7%

Ultra Ambrée 7%

This is the original beer from Ecaussinnes. 7% alcohol. It is spiced, but you don't really taste the spices. Nice amber colour, lightly caramelised with a light bitter taste at the end. A very nice beer, recommended by Michael Jackson.

2.7 Gusher! Amber/orange, almost copper colour with long lasting medium-thick foam. Not such a strong smell but it’s quite typical for this kind of amber ales; some lemon and light spices, a bit of malt too. Unfortunately that lemon touch always reminds me of detergent... Medium carbonation, just the right amount; pretty full taste as of the first sip, with accordingly full mouthfeel. The taste is quite similar to the smell: malt, something coriander-like, reasonably bitter but not too much as there’s some tempering caramel subtly underneath. The attack borders on sourness, the aftertaste is at the same time more mellow/balanced and more bitter. Both taste and aftertaste are quite strong, especially for a 7% beer, the spices probably help in that aspect. Once it warms a little, the alcohol takes a more prominent place. Not my favourity type of beer and little that makes it stand out from the crowd, but in its style it’s a good and solid example. I prefer it when it’s less cool, giving it a fuller, less sharp taste.
3.4 Gusher. Clear orange with a huge and lasting off-white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, fruity, yeasty and light spicy. Flavor is quite sweet and moderate bitter. Dry and moderate bitter finish. 110412
4.3 Tasted from classic small Belgian bottle into tulip glass. For the record, this super-high rating benefited from lengthy aging. I found it in the clearance bin last weekend. The cap stated, "Best Before 22/03/2010" so I thought "SCORE!" I don’t know exactly how old it was, but at least three years, and the cap was rusted onto the bottle. Poured a deep amber color with creamy off-white foam, long-lasting with loads of Belgian lace, yeast haze and chill haze. Extremely rich and complex malt aromas, caramelized brown sugar, toffee, plum syrup, fruity yeast esters, faint noble hops, slight booziness, earthy and woody, barley-wine-ish and sherry undertones. Extreme malty-sweet flavor as well, hints of sweet bread, fruitcake, biscuits and honey, apricots, raisins but with a hefty hops tang to balance (amazing considering the age.) Medium-heavy body, chewy mouthfeel, highly effervescent carbonation, lingering caramelly, fruity aftertaste. A true treat, better than any dessert wine in the world. I don’t know what a fresh one tastes like, but this bottle was a masterpiece.
2.5 Bottle @ home shared with Thompson. Cloudy hazy dark orange to amber colored beer, small off-white lacing. Yeast particles present. Smell is weird: malts, herbs or spices. I think spices, smells lightly like pepper. Taste malts, spices, slightly bitter hints. Average carbo and body.
3.0 Bottle. Brown coloured beer with lots of yeast parts and some light carbonation with a medium white head. Very strange herby and sweet bread/baked cookies aroma. Medium to full palate. Finish is sweet fruity and rather strange. Mystery for me. Don’t really like this.
3.5 Pours a hazy medium orangish amber color. Aroma is lightly malty, hoppy, yeasty, with a touch of fruit. Flavor is a nice mixture of malts and fruits.
3.4 Bottle. Hazy amber with big off-white head. Aroma is malt, fruit, hops and yeast. Flavour is malts, yeast, spices, fruit, little caramel and medium sweet.
3.2 Bottle @ Home. Pours hazy golden with a big fluffy white head. Aroma is malt, yeast, sweet fruit, spices. Taste is malt, yeast, caramel, cinnamon, fruit. Medium body, soft carbonation. 080911
1.3 750ml Bottle: Aroma of malt, apple, slight yeast, and a hint of honey. Poured brown/orange in color with a small, creamy, dense, tan head that diminished but lasted throughout. Very cloudy. Sparkling. Full of tiny and small particles throughout. Flavor is medium sweet. Tastes of malt, caramel, apple, yeast, and honey. Medium body. Tingly, then lightly dry texture. Average to lively carbonation. Medium to heavily sweet, malt, caramel, slight yeast finish is dry. 7%ABV is completely hidden throughout.
3.5 Hazy copper pour, solid off-white head. Aroma is spicy, some old wooden church bench, cardamon and cinnamon. Flavor is bitter spicy with some wood and a nice sweet thick body. Lively carbonation.
3.3 750ml synthetic corked and caged brown bottle. IT was a royal pain in the arse to get the extra long cork out. It pours a firey orange red color with a billowing, foamy white head. It recedes pretty slowly but only leaves a small amount of lacing. The smell definitely could be better. It has the smell of lemon sanitizer with a bit of grape and bread. A fruity but astringent smell. The flavor is interesting. It is very sugary. There is a ton of caramel and some nuttiness up front. There is also some golden raisin and apple in there. The mouthfeel is a bit thin, but this is perhaps a bit past its optimal freshness date. It is an okay Belgian ale, nothing spectacular. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 08-30-2010 01:16:23
2.8 Unclear brown of color with an off white head. An aroma of malt, bread, sweets and weak spice. A flavor of malt, bread, bread and weak toffee.
3.2 330ml bottle (Garre, Bruges) 6 Orange zersy blonde aroma, not as sweet as you’d expect from an ambree. Softer with some yeast. 4 Rich honey colour, large self-supporting creamy head. Add haziness by adding yeast if you want. 6 Bready yeasty focus, even when poured mostly clear. Side tastes of liquorice, and a bit of banana once the yeast’s in. 3 Refreshing palate, crisp carbonation. Liquoricy bitterness in the finish. 13 More a blond with a twist than an amber.
3.1 Cloudy orange, thin ring of foam. Honey, brown sugar aroma. Flavor is not as sweet as I feared, but still pretty sweet. Honey, molasses and booze. Not horrible, but not my cup of tea.
3.3 Bottle from Mitra Bergen. Dark brown body with thinnish head. Nose of sugar, malts and caramel. Taste of malts, caramel and some bitter. Quite spicey but very smooth. Enjoy it-with a nice kick in the end.
3.3 330 ml bottle a amber colored beer with a white head aroma malts spices and yeast taste caramel malts spices and a bitterness finish
4.0 11.2 oz bottle poured into my Piraat tulip glass. Best before 4/10/2008. A-Translucent sunny orange body that pours with 2 finger creamy white head. Head slowly fades to 1 finger and has excellent retention. Body is extremely cloudy and filled with large white yeast particles and some black yeast sediment. Tiny bubbles can be seen constantly rising to the top. S- Nose is somewhat mild but distinctively dominated by citrus such as orange and grapefruit. Soft spices such as cinnamon can also be detected. T-Lots of orange upfront with other tropical fruits also present. A mild spiciness accents a solid yeast backbone in the background. Medium hops bitterness and flavor appear for the finish and compliment the already present flavors. Soft hop bitterness, subtle fruitiness, yeast, and hints of alcohol linger. P- Low to medium carbonation and body is full of soft, smooth, and creamy yeast. O- This is my favorite of the three commonly available offerings from this brewery. This is a nice soft brew that I found to be quite enjoyable. I will probably purchase this one again. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 10-21-2007 21:29:00
3.4 Bottled sample via lubiere. Copper in colour with a hint of red. Quite strong carbonation. Aromas are od dried apricot, red apple skin, and savory cooking spices. Flavors suggest brown sugar and white pepper, along with other miscellaneous dried fruit. Fruity but drying finish with a more herbal (as opposed to hoppy) bitterness. Fairly light bodied. Pretty good.
3.2 Thick sickly sweet and malty aroma. Lots of caramel and ripe dark fruit with some sweet tarts and a hint of vegetables. Minimal head and carbonation. Color is a hazy copper brown. Rather lively fizz in the mouth which was unexpected. Light alcohol presence. Rather dry with a decent herbal bitterness. I would have expected this to be much sweeter based upon the aroma. Some roasted grains and tea leaves with a bit of yeastiness. Finishes dry with a hint of spices. This brew seems to be all over the place but is really not all that bad.
3.0 hazy amber coloured with lot of yeast particels and a white head a spicy yeasty hoppy aroma a spicy yeasty hoppy fruity taste with a spicy bitter finish
3.2 Hazy amber coloured beer with medium white head and lots of carbonation, with lots of floks of yeast. Yeasty fruity aroma with caramel hints. Full sparkling palate. Finish is spicy yeasty ending bitter dry.
2.8 (bottle) Hazy, orange-copper golden coloured hue with lots of ugly floaties and a big slightly tanned foamy head. Sweet and coriander-spicy aroma with cara-malt, light fruity and floral notes. Moderately sweet flavour with a tinge of acidity, medium bodied with a moderate carbonation. Cara-malty, biscuity and slightly yeasty taste with loads of coriander and subtle fruity notes; moderately sweet malty and spicy finish. Too spicy for my liking. 03.XII.09
3.4 bottle...copper red highlights...fluffy off white head...floral apple aroma with a rugged yeast flavor....apple comes through with some grapes & dark mixed fruits...light and refreshing
3.4 Bottle. Amber with a yellow 1 finger velvet head. Sweet apple, spicy yeast character with a hint of some dusty and floral notes. Caramelized sugars and a light plum note. Sweet almost apple juice likeness about it with a dry abrupt sweet warming and spritz carbonation. Decent.
3.6 33cl bottle at home, bought at plan-b cloudy orange/brown, large thick lasting lacing head. fruity, yeasty, flowery aroma, faint spices, alc blends well into aroma. nice. flavor is sweetish, slightly fruity, bitter from spices, faint licorice, fine belgian.
2.5 Bottle. Mainly yeast in aroma. Slightly unclear amber colour with beige head. Yeast, wood and spices in flavour. Some bitterness.
2.3 Brownish sediment pour, tho not too dark. Things are hangin out in there. Sweet and volatile olfactory. Alky yeast flavors with odd fermented fruit effects. Almost tart at times. Belgie fer sure; tho alky, comes across refined. Soemwhat weird barn farmy carboard or rotting old wet hay finish.
3.6 Bottled. Cloudy bronze colour. Caramelly nose with slight yeast and orange. Medium bodied and well rounded The pleasant caramelly malt is by an increasing hop induced bitterness Well balanced.
3.3 Bottled at Horsens Beerfestival. Almost clear amber body with a small off-white head. Aroma is malt, some caramel, spices and yeast. Flavor is sweet malt, caramel, citrus, dry fruit and spicy. Nice Belgium ale.
2.9 11.2oz grenade bottle. Highly oxidized fermented butterscotch aroma. Thick, murky orange amber color. The taste is sweet and malty, but seems a little past its prime. Rugged old Belgian yeast tastes. Well below par for a Belgian, but Id still like to try it fresh.
