Uncommon Brewers Siamese Twin Ale

Uncommon Brewers Siamese Twin Ale

This is a Belgian-style double brewed with a traditional coriander, and an uncommon addition of kaffir lime and lemongrass. An amber body, rich, flavorful, absolutely delicious, and entirely too drinkable for a beer that’s 8.5% ABV.

3.4 Draught @ Fermentoren, Århus. Pours dark brown with a small offwhite head. Aroma of malt, light yeast, caramel, wood, light fruit. Flavor is malt, yeast, caramel, light tart fruit, sweet citrus. Medium body, lively carbonation. 151214
3.6 Overall: Sourish, fresh Note: On-tap at The Bishops Arms. Reviewed 2014-12-01.
3.8 2.5dl Erzbierschof Tab. Wunderschönes amber, fester, samtener Schaum. Herrlich malzig in der Nase, die Gewürze erahnt man nur. Ganz wenig Hopfen, keine Säure. Vollmundig mit feiner Süsse. Das mag ich sehr.
3.8 Caaan. Light brown with off white head. Aroma is a little funky, spicy and herbal with dried fruit. Taste of dried fruits, caramel, tropical fruit, toffee. Nice sweetness
3.5 16oz bottle - Aroma - dusty, malty, some raisins and coriander present, touch of spices. Appearance - copper body, 1-finger white head, average retention, no lacing Mouthfeel - medium bodied, light-medium carbonation Flavor - light raisin, some lime and coriander, yeast and light roasted malts. Overall - an interesting beer with some interesting ingredients. Easy to enjoy at this price so it gets a point for that. Another good beer from Uncommon.
3.4 Can from Beer Dock, Crewe. Pours muddy brown with little head. A decent dubbel with a coriander background, nice and spicy and decent alcohol kick.
3.8 Can at home. Pours dark amber, nose is lemon, lime, chocolate, taste is similar, liquorice.
3.4 this would be a very nice thai food beer. one of the more interesting beers of the night. fruity, estery aroma with a hint of earthy grassiness at the end. a touch of lemon in the aroma and flavor which would be a mistake in some beers, but IMO works well here. good body and a hearty malty, yeasty backbone. nice beer."
2.3 Aroma of flat cola, lime and floral citrus notes and heavy burnt sugar. Light off white head and dark rust colored body. Flavors of lime, lemongrass some flowery spice and some grassy veg. Crisp and a little alc heat on the palate.
2.7 Aromas of burnt molasses, cherry cola, coriander. Hazy red-brown, lasting beige ring. Sweet, fruity, savory malts. Medium bodied.
2.8 Cola aroma, cinnamon. Sweet. Cherry coke. Strong, boozy. Bitter, way too much coriander.
3.3 2014-07-14. Dark amber brown body, large foamy beige head. 3+ Sweet dark malt, light green hops in the aroma. Flavour has rich sweet malt core, light bitterness throughout, moderate alcohol presence. 7+ Smooth average to medium bodied palate. 3+ Decent. Not what I expected. Can from LCBO, Toronto
3.3 Keg at The Hanging Bat. Pours brown with a thin off-white head. Aromas are banana, dark sugar, raisins. Taste brings more banana sweetness. Couldn’t finish the other ingredients. Easy drinking for sure though.
4.8 I find it interesting that this beer isn’t at 99%. It’s quite delightful and a perfect example of a well done yet unique dubbel. Belgian style dubbels are a hard category to compete in, with fine Trappist ales as the standard, but this brew holds its own for true dubbel connoisseurs. It’s nicely sweet with floral overtones and a crisp, dry, noble hop finish. Tastes of caramel, raisin, rose and a hint of biscuit. The pour is also nothing to complain about, with a delicate head and deep red hue which is distinctly impenetrable. Something you look for in a good dubbel. The palate is light yet full with a light buttery texture. I will certainly buy this again.
2.4 Tall Can. Deep caramel brown color, strong fruity and tart aroma. Medium body. Taste is off. Not good.
3.2 Cold can. Pours a dirty dark red / brown, slightly sparkling, small white head doesn’t last. Aroma of sour caramel, cherry cola, clay. Body is medium, slightly foamy, lowish carbonation. Taste - very sweet caramel (oversweet), slight coffee overtones, spearmint, metallic, soft cherry finish. Alright.
3.2 Can. Hazy dark orange. Aroma is sweetly herbal on a barley candy base. Caramel malts support notes of ginger, perfumey citrus (not truly kaffir though), and breakfast tea. No hint of the ABV, but a bit too sweet to be sessionable, at least for me anyway.
3.7 Aroma of smoked malts, amber malts, herbs, molasses, citrus and I can smell subtle lime. Amber appearance with decent lace. Nicely blended flavors amber malts, slight metallic tank notes, hop resin, subtle lime notes, cinnamon and herbs. Overall, this is a nice beer with herb and molasses overtones and subtle lime. Don’t get the lemongrass or coriander notes as much though. A- rating.
3.8 On tap @BD bar, sthlm. Dark amber ruby with no head. Aroma of spice, malt, port, perfume and candy. Taste is sweet and malt, caramel, port, salt, spice, herbs and alcohol.
3.6 Bottle share at DLD 2013. Pour is deep amber with a quickly disappearing head. Aroma is very much belgian with notes of key lime pie, raspberry, banana, golden raisins, and coriander. Flavor is similar but with more of a spice/vegetable kick at the end. Strange, but good.
3.1 Can. Aroma of done sugar candy, citrus. Taste is like a caramel bomb, done lemongrass. This actually could be pretty interesting but not really working.
2.9 Can from the LCBO via jerc - thanks, Jer! Dark red-copper body with a thin tan head. Aroma is odd - getting more of a barley wine vibe than anything "Belgian-style", with barley candy sweetness, resiny hops, and perhaps a hint of citrus. Flavour starts quite sweet with dark sugary malt, followed by a distinct hit of lime, and a warm, boozy finish that has a bit too much residual sweetness for my taste. Not completely awful, but a bit of a mess, really.
3.1 Clear dark body with reddish-brown hue and stocky head of three fingers. Aroma of molasses, cane sugar, caramel and butter with hints of floral hops. Flavor has a strong, bitter-sweet quality but lets the warming alcohol seep.Viscous mouthfeel and coarsely bitter lingering aftertaste.
3.1 This double poured a deep amber colour with a nice, big brown head. Scents include ripe fruit, caramel, cooked veggies and spices. First swig was sweet and creamy with flavours of cinnamon and brown sugar most predominant. An almost oily mouthfeel with very low carbonation, it sits quite sweet on the palate. Flavours of caramel and yeast linger...
2.5 4-pack of cans, attached with a green handle and holders at the LCBO. Pours a clean copper colour with a frothy beige head, decent retention and a little lace. Sweet malt aromas with some brown sugars, mild dark fruits. The taste is very offensive to me though, with some grass and fish punchiness which completely kills it (don’t get me wrong, I love Vietnamese food with fish sauce and lemongrass, but this is horrible). Thankfully, this putrid flavour does not linger too much and decent sweetness with hints of apples fades away slowly. Nice to have something uncommon and organic, but when something is too "off", it is not a good thing. Too bad I have 3 more cans.
3.2 [Can (473ml) c/o jercraigs] Pours a murky amber-brown with an average size semi-lasting frothy tan head. Aroma is big, and slightly odd, with dark fruit, lightly sour fruit, wood, herbs, yeast and a touch vinous. Flavour is yeasty and fruity first followed by herbs & spices, caramel malt, alcohol, some honey sweetness and hints of red wine. Average to medium bodied. I’m not sure what it’s trying to be but it’s decent, a bit too sweet for me, just good.
3.2 Yankee pint can, c/o "J" - thanks, man! Deep and clear ruby-amber pour, smallish off-white fluffy head. Vaguely DIPA resin/ boozy aroma with dry floral spicy notes. Taste is quite malty and citrusy, some booziness. thickish, decent carbonation, medium slightly bitter finish - not sure what it’s supposed to be - the fruit is minimal, the bitterness even moreso.
1.9 Canned 14AUG12 Pours nice and toasted brown with some central light etching. Smells of lime, some sweet syrups, a little bit of belgian yeasts, some coriander, and the lemon grass. Taste is lightly tart, some alcohol, some bitterness, some candy. Medium on full body with hi carb and a semi dry finish. Not a good beer really.
3.3 473 mL can from LCBO served cool in a tulip glass. Cloudy deep mahogany with a fair orange-tan head. Fairly typical Dubbel aromas of rich, fruity malts, dark dried fruits, light minty herbals, faint citrus and lime, cola-like herbal notes, not as crazy as expected. Medium+ body with fine, fairly full effervescence. Plenty of rich maltiness, dark dried fruits, brown sugar, a bit of diacetyl, faint citrus and herbal notes, a bit of esters, a reasonable Dubbel without much craziness; lightly sweet with minimal bitterness and a pleasant, richly malty and lightly herbal finish. I ain’t getting much in the way of exotic herbs/spices/flavors.
2.9 473 mL can. Pours dark amber brown with zero head. Leaves no lacing. Caramel and spice aromas, with subtle notes of lime leaf and lemongrass. Bready caramel malt and slight hop bitterness on the finish. Sweet and rich, sticky, coating mouthfeel, moderate carbonation and a bit of booze. Too sweet for me, would like to see more of that citrus zip. Good idea, bad execution?
