3.5750 ml bottle shared by footbalm. Pours a cloudy orange color with a large white head. The aroma is sweet, malty, almost a spicy citrus. The flavor is sweet and has a long dryness, musty almost- which is probably due to the near decade of age on this-, a thin body, yeast, citrus, dust. Quite nice. Mellow.
3.6Bottle shared by footbalm, thanks!
Appearance: Slightly hazy with not head or lacing, but with carbonation
Aroma: Apples and other fruity flavors
Taste: Sweet honey with apples and alcohol
This tasted more like a cider because of the age. I liked it.
3.5In hindsight, tasted well past it’s prime, but it still showed a hint of it’s past qualities. Lightly musty lemons and Unibroue yeast in the aroma and flavor.
2.9In short: A past-due date boozy fruity Belgian strong blonde ale
How: Bottle 750ml. Consumed when about 7 year of age (too old). Sent to me by dmschefke. Thanks a lot Dave.
The look: Cloudy blonde body topped by a small off-white head
In long: Nose is very yeasty with strong nail polish and some apple pie. Taste is very sweet with the alcohol really apparent. Fruity taste of fruit purée, apple and pineapple mainly. The bottle was obviously very old and I was surprised at how lively the carbonation and body was (just like a any fresh Unibroue) and there was no sign of DMS, cardboard or oxidation. There was however a little bit of diacetyl but not enough to be really bothersome. It’s like the beer just faded away without showing any typical aging problems. In a blind tasting I would never have guessed this was a way past due-date beer, I would have just complained about the level of higher alcohols and straightforward boozy and fruit puree taste. Oh well, too bad. Last time I had that beer was before my ratebeer days. How sad. What a difference seven years can make, good taste and refinement has been replaced by too much booze and a total lack of class. And not just me, this beer too.
3.7750 ml bottle. Pours a hazy dark golden color with a small off white head. The aroma was still fairly sweet, caramel, dried fruits, and yeast. The flavor had dried fruits with a touch of citrus, doughy yeast, caramel, and brown sugar. This had the Unibroue fingerprint flavors and held up pretty well. there were definite signs of oxidation, but still enjoyable. Medium-full mouthfeel and good carbonation.
3.4Bottle, bright yellow gold color, with a white head, sweet honeyish pale malt, fruity nose of granny smith apple skin, with a faint brandyish liquor accent, with some fruity esters of citrus, with a hint of lemon peel, apricot, and a light spicy aroma follows though on a medium-bodied palate with a yeasty, sweet liquorish, fruity, apple skin character, with a bready dough accent, some honeyed pale malt sweetness, with a zesty, citrus peel note, with a warmth mellow mouthfeel, leading towards a malty, honey, warming finish. Thanks Alex
3.4Bottled. Thanks MaxxDaddy for bringing this to Denmark and sharing. An unclear golden beer with a fast disappearing white head. The aroma is sweet with strong notes of fruit - especially oranges and pineapples. The flavor is sweet malty with lots of fruit - again primarily oranges and pineapples, but also notes of alcohol, leading to a dry and slightly wheaty finish.
3.1Bottle. Aroma of tangerine, peach, apple, in a cidery way, alcohol, mint leaf, a fruit coffee essence. Flavor starts off with cider, pear, and gathers an increasing yeasty character. However, as the beer begins to show itself with a bit of warming, the cidery feel turns to ginger ale and apple juice, seeming to me to illustrate a beer past its prime.
3.7Bottle found randomly in the back of the fridge of my local beer store! Seems to have been stored well...pours a cloudy light orange with a small white head. Aroma of sweet fruits, particularly apple, some light spices, and yeast. Flavor is mostly sweet with a touch of light fruits, lots of yeast with some bitterness, and a slight vegetal quality. Nice BSA although I suspect this has passed its peak. Still quite enjoyable though.
3.5750ml bottle via a trade from awhile back....pours a semi cloudy orange brown with a quickly disappearing white head.
...aroma of sweet candied sugar, almost resembling a tripel in nature, dried apricots and other fruits...
flavors were for the most part sweet. candied sugar and yeast, lacking much complexity. somewhat of a dry finish. thin mouthfeel and a little soft on the carbonation side.

4.1Corked and Caged, 750ml via trade with either footbalm or moejuck I think. My congratulations to Obama for winning. Hell yeah, waiting on some important initiatives. Canadian brew to congratulate Obama, only appropriate. Pours orange with a low level of carbonation and not much of a head, but a nice pop of the cork. Nose is sweet and yeasty and incredibly smooth. Taste is sweet with a great apple flavor, a bit like an apple cider feeling. This is a really smooth and well aged
4.1(Bottle) Pours hazy dark yellow to light golden orange with a white head. The aroma is yeasty, spicy, fruity and a bit malty with tones of oranges, tangerines, creamy mango, peach, canned pineapple, ripe banana, doughy bread, coriander, ginger, clove, vanilla, cinnamon, fresh herbs, candi sugar, honey, marzipan, smoky/floral incense and light cheesy notes. Complex and well balanced. Like some other Unibroue beer there is something in the spiciness that reminds me of oak. The flavour starts with some candy sweetness but ends on an elegant, light dry note. Light bitter. Good balance between the fruity and spicy tones. A vanilla creaminess lean against fresh tones of apples, pears, mango and sweet oranges. Notes of honey and a rather fat cookie-like maltiness are also present. The mouthfeel is creamy with a perfect, medium carbonation. A light numbing and peppery hint from the alcohol blends well with the lingering citrusy and spicy aftertaste. Medium to full bodied.
3.7A bit too much age on this one, but still had a nice nose of fruity influences with a bit of melon and spice. The flavor was quite the same, but with the added touch of oxidation. Mellow on the palate.
3.8Pours clear deep gold with thin white head. The aroma is bold apple cider, sweet malts, smooth spices and faint lemon tartness. The taste starts malty sweet before sweet apples goodness picks up and bleeds into more mildly roasted maltiness and smooth spices. The apple note re-surges into the finish. This has aged wonderfully.
3.5Bottle, at BA Throwdown #2. Pours a golden yellow color, minimal head and wet lacing. Cider notes in the nose, some honey, sugar, creamy notes of tropical fruit. Full spicy body, yeast, cinnamon, some clove, distant ginger and some apple. Smooth, held up very well, tasty.
3.3Thanks to iowaherkeye for bringing this bottle to his ’farewell to Iowa’ tasting. Poured a slightly hazy golden color with a white head. I smelled subdued maple syrup and pear. Medium bodied and slightly sweet. I tasted pear, husky grain, toffee, powdered sugar, and clove. Not bad.
3.7Thanks iowaherkeye! Light amber pour with a medium white head. Light cork, apple, and yeast aroma. Flavor is green apple, apricot, pineapple, yeast. Lightly tart dry finish with a touch of belgian yeast sweetness and some booze. This held up really well, and didn’t have a hint of being oxidized.
3.1750mL bottle, sampled at the 1st Annual Shenandoah Beer Throwdown, courtesy of kmweaver. Thanks Ken! This beer was incredibly oxidized. Thats all I really tasted. Maybe some yeastiness as well, but not much of the unibroue house character was left. I must confess, I still have not grown into loving these oxidized messes.
3.5750mL bottle, sampled at the 1st Annual Shenandoah Beer Throwdown, courtesy of puzzl. Thanks, Andy, and once again thanks ken for the preamble. Pours yellow/golden, cloudy, with a white head and lacing. Aroma is dark fruits and yeast. Flavor similar, with candy sugar, sweet, soft finish.
I wrote something else at the bottom that I can’t read! :( Campfire shoulda been bigger!
3.7750mL bottle, sampled at the 1st Annual Shenandoah Beer Throwdown, courtesy of puzzl. Thanks, Andy! Pours a hazy, golden color; thin, off-white head with patchy lacing; decent looking beer. Lots of dried caramel and yeastiness in the aroma; dried fruits, caramelized bananas, and caramelized sugar; a touch watery at the edges. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: lots of dried fruits, dry caramel, and basic citrus upfront; loads of breadiness, dough, and complex yeast character; highly carbonated; quite tasty overall. Plenty of oxidation at this point. Medium finish: dry caramel, breadiness, and brown sugar; soft, dry end.
3.4(Bottle 75 cl) Courtesy of Maxxdaddy. Slightly hazy golden with a creamy, white head leaving some lacework. Soft aroma of fruit and yeast. Solid body with rich fruity accents and some yeast. Lightly oxidized, but actually the oxidization just rounds the beer off in a pleasant way. Very subdued bitterness. 220308
3.5Bottle thanks to Maxxdaddy. A hazy yellow beer with a big white head. The aroma and taste is of yeast, fruits, spices and it´s a bit oxidiced, sweet. Medium to full body with a sweet light alcoholic finish.
3.6[Vintage, courtesy of MaxxDaddy] Hazy golden with medium head. Sweet vinious aroma with ripe fruits, yeast and spicy notes. Sweet flavor with ripe fruits, honey, spices, yeast and madeira notes.
3.122 fl oz bottle, thanks to MaxxDaddy. Pours hazy orange with a fully diminished white head. Light orange fruity and oxidised. Oxidised flavour. Mild sweetness and light yeasty note. Wineous. Ends slight dusty and oxidised, but also with a mild spice no. Over the hill but nice to try.
3.3Hazy honey yellow with minimal head and lacing. Aroma is sweet... apple, pineapple and light spices. Taste is odd with a lot of apple, a hint of mint and chamomile, and a dash of funk. High residual sweetness gets a bit cloying toward the bottom of a snifter. Despite its appearance, there is a fair amount of carbonation.
3.6It is a pale body that looks like a belgian tripel topped off with a few bubbles around the edge of the glass. It has a funky aroma with some cinnamon and apple smells. A bit of a toasty aroma with honey sweetness. The flavor has hints of honey with a bunch of yeast flavor.
4.9I have poured this into a large tulip. It is a very light golden color. The resounding POP of the cork has relieved all of my fears regarding the cork. The nose is of yeasty spicey flavors.
The flavor is outstanding! Upfront are the earthy spices. In the middle comes the yeast, wich adds a slight mustiness. At the finish, there is sweet, sweet honey. This is still a dry beer, though.
The mouthfeel is world class as well. The seemingly huge carbonation is actually quite soft, and for such a heavy, complex flavor, the beer feels kind of light on the palate. If only I had another sample. Better yet, dozens of samples! Ahh...another pipe dream.
I hope that the Edition 2004 turns out this well.
The second and last pour, the chunkier pour, has a more fruity, slightly funky flavor. Bravo.

3.1Sampled at Delilah’s Vintage Strong Ale fest. Pours a hazy yellow with tiny particles floating underneath an off white ring for a head. Nose is lemony with lots of hay and grain. More of the hay, grain, sweet malts, lemon with spice, yeast, and wheat. Not very good. I think the Unbroue rep should sample this before he serves it.
3.1bottle sample. pours hazy lemon with white head. nose of sour bread and lemon. flavor is wheaty, lemony, slihgtly sour, and yeasty. okay.
