2.9Unibroue is a fitting name for this company as I think they only have one brew and just keep labeling it differently. Okay - maybe not, but their yeast went from great to mundane to just plain boring to me over the years. Murky maize with a large quickly dissipating white head. Aroma of yeast, toasted malt, spices, corn. Taste of toasted malt, yeast, fruit, sulfur and alcohol. Unibland.
3.5750ml bottle. Rating #435. Hazy orangish/yellow pour with a thin white head. Light metallic aroma, also has a candy sweetness to it and an apple fruitiness. A little booze, apple juice and a little bit in the aftertaste, not bad. (1874)
3.3Slightly hazy orange-yellow pour with a light tan head. Toasted malt aroma, nutty with notes of hay. Sweet flavor with light fruitiness. Slightly tart and a tone of alcohol on the finish.
3.6750mL. From an old trade. Thanks to a generous ratebeerian! The pour is a hazy golden with a giant, off-white head erupting with Belgian yeast character: estery, pear, gold raisin, candi sugar, musty yeast. Smells similar actually to De Dolle Stille Nacht. Very rich, candy, golden fruit, and yeast dominant with a dose of spicy alcohol. Older, mustier, syrupy feeling. Taste is very sweet with maple, golden apples, Bosc pear, old cider, mild mealy red apple. Sticky, buttery, thick mouthfeel. Feels a little too buttery. Not bad for its age.
3.6Bottle courtesy of GT2, thanks! Golden color, fizzy white head that settles quickly. Aroma of bread and caramel. Taste is malty, bur decent bittering hops, a bit of a sour finish.
3.7Picked up several months ago at Holiday Wine Cellar when they had a cellar sale ($12.99...they charged a bit more because of the vintage). Pours into my Unibroue tulip a hazy golden straw color with two fingers of white head and lots of suspended particles. Aroma of musty Unibroue yeast, bready malts, some caramel, and some apple. Flavor of rich spicy caramel, honey, sticky fruit, and more yeast. Prickly carbonation and well-concealed ABV. This is now over four years old...I had hoped for more complexity but it’s still pretty good. (431, 566)
4.1Bottle, generously brought out of the cellar by Vergil the beer guy at Radio Maria-- it wasn’t even listed on the bottle menu! Hazy orange gold. Fruity spicy aroma, marmalade, ginger, barley candy. Flavours of barley candy, chestnuts, marzipan, heaps of spices, cherries, golden raisins. Crazy! Thank you so much Vergil!
3.6750 ml bottle, and I’m pretty sure I got it at Friar Tuck in Savoy. Bottle marked ’6 January 2006’. Pours a cloudy, dusty, orange-golden color with some sediment and a finger-thick but dense off-whtie head. Aroma of caramel malts, honey, apples, wood, Belgian yeast, brown sugar, and dry, musty grains. Flavor of sweet caramel malts, apples, Belgian yeast, wood, brown sugar, and grains. Mostly I’m getting caramel out of this. Medium-bodied, with a chewy mouthfeel and medium carbonation. This has held up pretty well for 5 full years, as no signs of oxidation are present. The alcohol is also completely hidden. More drinkable than a lot of Unibroue beers and pretty nice overall.
3.1A: The pour is a clear golden-orange color with a very short lived white head.
S: A really cidery nose that is super dry. I get mostly apples and white grapes, with maybe a touch of pale, cracker type malts. A bit of a sugar note is the only real sweetness to the aroma.
T: Starts off with a semi-sweet white wine flavor and the same apple juice/cider character. There’s a definite alcohol presence to this beer, and it’s quite light overall, so not much to hide it. Surprisingly, not as dry as the nose would lead you to believe.
M: The body is medium with a moderate to high level of carbonation.
D: Seems that this one has aged very strangely. Wasn’t awful, just wasn’t really too overwhelmed by it either.
3.7750ml bottle. Pours clear golden with a small off-white head that fades to spotty foam. The aroma is nice with Belgian yeast, sweet caramel apple, spice, and some sherry-like oxidation. Sweet caramel malt and pale malt base with Belgian yeast, apple, pear, fruitcake, spiciness. Complex and tasty. Really smooth mouthfeel with medium-high carbonation and medium-full body. Excellent if conventional Belgian golden ale.
3.2Bottle 750ml. @ home.
[ Trade by fiulijn ]. Initail sparkling, clear medium amber orange color with a large, frothy - open, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, light to moderate yeasty, sweet wood, sweet perfume, sweet honey. Flavor is moderate to light light heavy sweet and light bitter with a average to long duration, sweet yeast fruit, vitage malt notes. Body is medium, texture is watery to oily, carbonation is soft. 4.0Poured into a snifter. Drank this beer recently, but did not taste old at all.
Color was a cloudy pale yellow. Head was full and fluffy, leaving great lacing.
Aroma was very fruity with some spices. The main smell was of bananas. Taste was similar. Some mix of cloves and earthy hops added as well. A very complex taste that made me want to keep drinking more.
Mouthfeel is very smooth. It is extremely easy to drink for a beer at 10%. Normally the alcohol would show here, but it was complete hidden.
Overall, this is one fine beer, especially for being a couple years old. I picked it up on sale for $8 and it was definitely worth the price. If you find one on sale, I suggest that you pick it up.

3.8Sweet apricots and spices on the nose. Some citrus notes. Golden with an orange haze in color. Looks more like a Triple than a Belgian Strong Ale. Surprisingly still fresh tasting after 4 years in the bottle.
4.3750ml bottle purchased at D’s a few months ago. Last night before another seven day a week marathon of school/work. Decided to go for something big that I was looking forward to. Poured into my Chimay chalice.
A-Body is a very hazy, translucent golden yellow. Pours with a 1-2 finger foamy head that eventually fades to a thick collar and leaves behind some lacing in the glass. When held up to the light one can see that the cloudiness is thick and dynamic with darker yeast sediment and cloudiness moving about the body.
S-Smell is soft but very good. A spicy Belgian yeast comes through accenting a big fruitiness (apple, pear, lemon). Soft floral hops are noticeable in the background as well as the slightest hint of phenols.
T-Taste is very subtle and mild. A fruitiness (as described above) comes through first and is the highlight of the flavor upfront. This has an accent of just a hint of floral hop flavor as well as a substantial bready yeast backbone. Spicy Belgian yeast really comes through for the finish as well as a slight accent of both floral hop flavor and bitterness as well as a hint of alcohol. What lingers is soft fruitiness and spiciness.
P-Medium to high tingly carbonation and a very smooth, yeasty body.
O- This is a very good BSPA that with its aging has developed a pretty mild, soft character. I would imagine that when this was fresh the floral hops really shined...but the alcohol was also much more noticeable. This BSPA...at least at this stage is drinking like a soft Tripel. Its very good and I am happy that I bought it. Would purchase again if I saw it again. The 10% ABV is well hidden though this does drink like a 7%...so its not completely hidden. Unibroue is an awesome brewery that doesn’t get the credit it deserves.

3.7750ml bottle, caged and corked. Nice ’pop’ of the cork. Poured a slightly hazy medium orange color. The head was two fingers high and white. It reduced over a minute or two to a thin lasting film. Fruit dominated the aroma including apricot, pear, and apple. However, baking spices and pale malt were certainly not insignificant in the nose. Medium bodied and sweet. A bit sticky in the mouth with moderate carbonation. Apricot, clove, hay, subdued apple, and white pepper flavors.
3.4Bottle. Poured a hazy orange with a fizzy off-white head that settled quickly. Aromas of dark fruits, spice, apple, and a light earthiness. The flavor had dark fruits and spice. Medium body and sweet.
4.8Deep gold, fluffy white head. Aromas of all the fruits of autumn, roasted and spiced. Nose is musky and sweet; flavor is slightly sweet and spicy with a hint of warming alchohol. Long aftertaste of apples. Deep characteristics of a belgian tripel. Excellent.
4.1I guess this is a bit old but like me, mellow. Cloudy amber with a big white head. The aroma is fruity and earthy with a nice blend. The flavor starts sweet and fruity and ends with some hop character and an alcohol bite. Finishes quite nice with a taste that lingers on. Very good.
3.225 ounce bottle. Pours a hazy orange with a large ivory head. Audible and persistent fizz. Aroma is mainly of dust and fruit (orange fruits). Plain, but pleasant. Flavor’s got some good creamy dairy in it, quite fruity though, perfumy finish. Pretty sweet, borderline cloying. Mouthfeel is decent, average. Not a bad ale unto itself, though Unibroue is usually a little more impressive. Overall, good.
3.028th December 2008. Hazy gold beer, very little head. Sweet and dry with an unusual pear fruit tone and some mango as well. Warming dry finish. Smooth but a tad too dry.
3.7Bottle. Pours a hazy orange body with an off white head. Fruity etoh latent ester, apricots, lemon zest, some light apple tones, and a woody warming. Peach with a spicy yeast strand that warms and nibbles at the tongue. A bitter earth toned finish. Nice ale.
4.1750. Bright hazy gold, a few little floaties, and a foamy white head. Unibroue always has nice head retention. Aroma of spice and sweet apples. Flavor is almost cider-like, with the alcoholic strength present but still second to sweetness. It has a nice acidity like a white wine, too. Light and spicy, this beer has aged exceptionally - I think Unibroue had a real winner with this one. It’s a pleasure to drink.
3.5750ml bottle from Premier Gourmet. Pours cloudy ochre colour with foamy head, not lasting and not much lacing. Slightly sweet, spicy and over ripe apples and malt aroma. Malty dried fruit, yeasty flavour with nice carbonation. Lingering aftertaste with noticeable, though not overpowering alcohol.
4.0So here’s the deal: Unibroue is without a doubt the brewer that I love to hate. Can’t stand their house yeast, which is oh-so-definitive (and you’ve got to admire them for that, like it or not). But look, this beer just pwned me because, whether I like it or not, I have to admit that it absolutely rocked. It’s a beautifully crafted tripel (why listed as Belgian strong?) and it is drinking absolutely amazing right now with three years on it. Muscat and green apricot, whispers of mandarin and pineapple, yeah that Unibroue yeast but so well matched this time around, sweet bready tripel, mmmm....so good. Floaty matter, golden beauty, white head, unbelievably smooth on the tongue. Perfect age, splendid beer. Yeah, it’s me as an Ann Arbor native admitting that Ohio State has a good football team, but Unibroue put together a heck of a beer here. Kudos to them.
3.5Bottle. Poured a murky dark orange with a thin light brown head. Aroma was sweet with floral and light citrus notes as well as a grainy sweetness from the malts. Flavor is sweet from the malts with a floral undertone. Very smooth on the tongue.
4.3Bottle. Split this brew with James and Dallas. Pours murky orange with an off-white head. Firm body with a crisp, clean finish. All around excellent Belgian strong.
3.9Pours a hazy honey color with a frothy head. Very delicate, sweet nose that’s particularly faint, might just be my glass. Sweet flavor with malts and the Unibroue carbonation. Very clean finish and very light. Nice mouthfeel. Awesome beer on lees. shared with jredmond
4.0Bottle split with DeputyAndy. Pours a deep hazy orange with nice carbonated head. The aroma is classic uni, delicate, spicy. The flavor is medium sweetness, malt, spice, and clean finish. Hides the alcohol very well.
3.6Sediment ridden light cider colored with generous white foam. Sweet and spicy aroma. Light tasting. Somewhat viscous. Notes of apple and some other fruit both in nose and flavor.
3.1Thanks to Bob for sharing this beast of a beer. Hazy amber pour with sufficient floaters. Light oxidation and caramel on the nose. Flavor is spicy, but all in all this was really oxidized.
