4.0Bottle @ Monks’s Sveavägen. Dark brown colour with slightly dark head. Rich aroma. Strong fruity taste.
3.8Bottle along side the 2004. Pour is an effervescent cloudy brown with a smallish brown head. Aroma is loaded with deep dark fruits, Belgian-like spice, hints of wood, and a deep earthiness. Flavor is also loaded with deep fruity spice and hints caramel malt. Much more complex and not flat as compared to the 2004. Probably still a little past prime as there are some hints of oxidation but still very enjoyable.
3.9(bottle - corked & caged 750 ml) Cloudy amber pour with a thick and frothy off-white head. Lots of fruits and malts in the aroma. Definitely picked up plums and raisins. Flavor is creamy and fruity and incredibly smooth. Fruits and oak and vanilla and a port flavor do a very long dance all over the tongue and mellow nicely at the finish. Alcohol burn is pretty much non-existent. Incredibly smooth.
3.8you are full of newtons! .. . Pours a deep burgundy brown .. medium soapy head .. sticky crazy lacing .. . smell is plums, prunes, dark fruits, cellar and reduced brandy .. . aged amazingly well, and still has a touch of heat in the throat- a winter sipper for sure .. . . Stomp that pickle revert!
3.6750ml from the haus. I nabbed this one as I already have two in the basement so I thought I’ give it a go to see how long I can hold them for. Pours extra dark medium size head. Looks and smells wonderful but then once I tried it and felt the slight alcohol burn on the finsh I knew this needed a little more time. Much like anything that is a little young it showed room for improvement over the next year.
4.6Very dark brown. White bubble head. Strong sour spicy scent. Actually smells like a wine a bit. Strong taste. Slight burn of the tongue from alcohol. Complex flavour. Very little alcohol taste despite the %age and the earlier burn. Very pleasant warm aftertaste. Fruit taste grows as it settles. Do I taste Prune?
2.1From a bottle at home in Skövde. Dark brown. Basement aroma, fruity and some malt. Taste old maulty (möglig) potatoes and basement. Isch..:-(
3.14/5 in darkness. Smells stale and minty. Tastes creamy minty and abit stale. No real finish.
3.0Bottle. Courtesy of marsiblursi. Pours cloudy mahogany with a rim of off white bubbles. Aroma is weak; malty, fruity and raisins. Flavor is sunky, cellar, cardboard, vinous, sourish and tart. Odd. Finishes moldy and fruity bitter.
3.8Bottle 750ml courtesy of meilby. Pours greyish dark brown with a diminishing offwhite head, good chunk of floaters. Aroma of figs, raisins, caramel, basement, toffee. Taste is medium sweet, light bitter and a little paperish. Medium to full body, oily, soft carbonation. 20110421
3.6Pours a ruddy brown with a small and quickly dissipating beige cover. Aroma is oxidized pit fruits, fig, grape, plum, sherry. Taste is a bit thin bodied fruit again, some caramel, cocoa, noticeably oxidized but this one has aged gracefully.
3.2750ml bottle tasted at Daknole’s Memorial Day "Throw Down". Amber/brown pour with unimpressive cream colored head. Aroma is subdued spice, yeast, malt and maybe some dark fruit. Again taste, like aroma is just flat, with some spice, toasted malt, and somewhat bitter/sweet. Finish has some alcohol (10%abv) warmth, but time has taken it’s toll on this one. You can sense that all the spicey attributes that generally make Unibroue ales so good, are there; they’re just lost in time. Disappointing, because this was probably a good one, 3 or 4 years ago.
3.7750ml Bottle Thanks to ditmier. Pours out brown topped with a sand head. Aroma was pit fruit, caramel, belg yeast notes, and some spice. Taste was like the aroma with a good sweetness and spice balance. Overall pretty tasty.
Langweilig! 9/9/9/8/8/8
3.5Bottle 750ml @ Zoney
Pours reddish dark brown with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, caramel, dried fruits and yeast. Taste is medium sweet and light to medium bitter. Body is medium to full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.
3.1Bottle at Paul’s tasting awhile back. Pours clear brown. Nose and taste of rubbing alcohol, pine nuts and toffee. Rubbing alcohol is especially strong in the nose. Past its prime.
3.2Big corked bottle picked up@ØlKonsortiet, Aalborg. Clear, dark brown. Low blond top. Vinous aroma. Dry, papery with notes of cherries and old books. Light-bodied with a quite weak, semi-dry malt flavor. Fruit tones, cherries and red berries. Notes of dusty hops. Powdery mouthfeel. A certain alcohol warmth in the ending. Past its prime, this one. Slightly oxidized.
3.5Bottle from Raadhuskiosken, bornholm. Production date 11-23-2004. (rated 01-24-2011).
clear nutty dark brown, smooth offwhite head. darker than what i had thought.
quite faint aroma, the domnant note is cellary or mouldy notes. Beneath that you might notice a little bit of alc. decieving aroma, considering it’s 10% abv.
Flavor is very moudy / cellary, also sweet caramelly, sweet malty and sweet dark fruity. apart from the cellary note, the rest is pretty darn well balanced and mingled together, more subtle flavors are licorice, syrup, figs, raisins. Retired at ratebeer, perhaps they don’t make tihs anymore, lucky i got to taste it.
3.8750 ml bottle from Marche Atwater, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass.
App.: Very deep brown-black with a very modest tan head.
Aroma: Alcohol, brightness, fruitiness, yeast, berries, dark, dried fruits, caramel, a brothy note, some earthy citrus, a touch of wild funk, some brown sugar bordering on molasses, more tangy fruit, lots of sour cherries, all of a sudden, really nice and it aged well.
Palate: Medium+ body, smooth, moderate effervescence.
Flav.: Minty root beer/cola herbals, nice fruits, both dark dried and slightly brighter, more mint, caramel and toffee in a bright way, some yeast note, though quite restrained, a bit of oxidation as hazelnuts/Sherry, wonderfully drinkable stuff!; sweet with sufficient bitterness and acidity for balance and a warm, alcoholic, fruity malt finish.
This is splendid stuff. It aged very nicely.
3.6A: The pour is a slightly muddled mahogany color with a decent sized off-white head.
S: Starts off with sweet caramel and dark fruits. Perhaps a regular ol’ BSDA without herbs? The rest of the nose is toffee, chocolate, and a bit of roast. Yes, a regular BSDA.
T: Flavor opens up with brown sugar, plums, cherries, raisins, and caramel. There’s a mild chocolate flavor to it as well as a bit of a spice note, seems to be all-spice. Pretty tasty, actually.
M: The body is medium with a moderate level of carbonation to it.
D: A pretty solid beer, especially for being five years old. I wouldn’t mind ticking this one again.
3.5750mL bottle, sent from Glouglouburp, pours dark brown / black with a small beige head. Aroma of yeast, light dark fruits, various spices, and bread. Flavour begins with dried fruits (figs, dates) and moves into various potent spices. Very nice, though not amongst their most superior brews.
3.1Hazy brown / red with no head. Aroma is caramel, sugar, cherry, other fruits, molasse. Medium body and low carbonation. Taste is cherry, molasse, caramel.
4.6Poured a hazy rhubarb red and brown with a super big creamy off-white head. Retention was very good. Lacing was thick and foamy. Carbonation was very high. The aroma was mostly the distinctive Unibroue beer on the lees scent. Wow, this beer is very smooth. For a 10% ABV, it went down very well. It tasted sweet, but not too sweet. The mouth was very complex. Berries were exploxing everywhere, and mostly cherries. There was a slight sourness and some bitterness at the finish. Fruits are all over, even the aftertaste is great revealing a full garden. I have purchased 2 other corked bottles (750ml) of this brew and have stored them in my cellar for future tastings in years to come (originally rated February 2005).
3.4Pours reddish brown with off white head, vinous, dark fruit, and some caramel on the nose. Taste is vinous, a bit tart, maybe a touch oxidated working well with the caramel and dark fruit with a sweet finish. Pretty good!
3.5Bottle at Copenhagen Beer Festival 2010.
Sweet beer - honey, spices, apricot jam.
3.907-MAY-2010, @Beerfestival.dk.
No idea what this was before tasting.
No doubt it is a belgian strong ale, with all the characteristigs: figs, bread, yeast, dried fruit.
Also slightly sour.
Very maltbased, very fine.
3.9Bottle shared by Bockyhorsey. Thanks Bill! Red brown pour with an off-white head. Lots of yeast and dark fruit, a bit of sourness. Pretty good stuff.
3.5750 mL bottle. Very little "pop" when opened, although it has been stored properly since I bought it in 2008. Before then, who knows. Hazy, rusty brown with no head. There is a strong, vinuous aroma of alcohol and bruised apple. There is lots of spice in the sweetish flavour, along with the same alcohol and apple cider. Little carbonation left. I probably left this one a little too long.
3.6750ml bottle. Dark reddish brown, almost black body with a thin beige head. Aroma of sweet malt, dry fruit and spices. Flavor is sweet malty, caramel, dry fruit, brown sugar, some roast and warming alcohol.
3.6Murky mud with a thin off-white head and it’s an active sucker. Aroma of cherry, oak, Belgian yeast, dark fruit, fruit peel, prunes and spices. Taste of Unibroue every beer yeast, prunes, brown sugar, alcohol, grapes and spice. Mild dry peppery finish. A few steps down from Edition 2004.
