2.6 01.07.2013, tap @ Rattle ’n Hum: Small shortlasting head. Aroma is sweet black currants, berry skin, sugar, soda powder. Taste is watery, berry skin, hay, grass, black currants, chalk. Medium bitterness, very thin body. Fair enough, but it could have been so much better.
3.6 Poured from 750mL bottle. Clear salmon pink colour with white head with a slightly pink hue. Black currant aroma. Black currant with some light yeast with medium body. Very nice texture, not sweet. Easy drinking.
3.7 750 ml. bottle. Pours reddish orange with a nice white head. Aroma of fruit and grain. Taste is currants, wheat, citrus, yeast, and spice. I enjoyed this Fruit Beer.
3.7 750ml Bottle in Montreal. slightly cloudy violet pour, quite pale with a weak white head, little retention. Thin carbonation. Aroma is black currants, raisins, yeast. Taste is dominated by black currant, tempered with mild yeast and grainy flavours. Cold, sweet, and very refreshing.
3.2 Violet avec une col moyenne violet. L’arôme de cassis et levure Unibroe. Le goût est d’abord cassis, ensuite un peu acidulé. Le goût des fruits n’est pas aussi présent que les autres bières Éphémère.
3.2 Aroma is blackcurrant in all of its understated glory. Hints of mulberry and black cherries. Pours ugly hazy purple with a good fizzy head. Taste is pretty much what I expected. A good cassis flavor without being overly fruity. This however makes this a very mild beer. Perfect for summer drinking but not too interesting.
3.4 750ml - pours pinkish amber with plenty of lightly ping head. Nose is blackcurrant and dusty. flavor adds bread. Acidic. Sweet and a tad tart. Mild for a Unibroue. Tame for a fruit beer. Refreshing. It basically drinks itself. Metallic aftertaste.
3.6 The nose is dominated here by black current and hints of funky yeast in the background. The black current found in the nose is really mellowed-out in the taste. Not nearly as sweet as I was expecting it to be; actually quite enjoyable. More of the essence of real black currents as opposed to a manufactured candy taste. This is not a complex beer; it pretty much only features black currants with hints of malt beneath. As fruity beers go, it’s quite nice.
3.6 750ml bottle from Liberty Wines. Thanks Angela! Pours a cloudy orange with a tiny white head. Aroma: Hay, grapes, raspberries. Smells very sweet, slightly sour. Palate: medium bodied, fizzy, long, slightly dry finish. Taste: Not as sweet as it smells, hints of sourness, and a hint of bitterness.
3.7 Pours a hazy pink-salmon with a short-lived fizzy pink head. Smells of tart berries. Taste is moderately sweet, lightly bitter, moderately sour, tart - berries/currants dominate, a fruity yeastiness; very much a classic Unibroue with the yeast. A fruit beer in taste as well as in smell!
1.8 I like lambics but this does nothing for me. Really quite weak and I am looking at the size of the bottle I am thinking "why me?"
3.8 Clouded berry copper, pink tinged foamy white head settles slowly. Fruity berry fresh aroma. Taste is moderate berry fruity, not at all cloying, mild wheat, yeast and slightly floral. Lively carbonation, light bodied, low hopped. Clean crisp and refreshing, finishes dry and lightly tart. LF (Lagerboy Friendly)
3.4 pours hazy pink-purple with a frothy pinkish head, excellent retention and lacing. wheat, berries, currants i suppose, shy vinous notes, very hint of acidity - mainly coming from yeast, also very yeasty - classic unibroue signature, some orange and other citrus, hint of sweetness, touch of soap. lively and soft carbonation, light body, short fruity and herbal finish. o-k.
3.5 Bottle. Not sure of the age. I assume the base beer is a wit. Poured a pale purple with long-lasting pink head. Good fruity currant smell. Tart berry flavors. Biscuity. Orange peel. Slightly soapy and astringent, but overall a very fine beer.
3.7 750 ml bottle. Pours a coral/brown with little head. Aromas of sour fruit candy. Flavors of citrus, blueberries, candy, and light malts. Very refreshing fruit beer...
3.5 Tulip pour. Crisp golden yellow-amber with full two finger head. Nose is sweet candy, white sugar, sweet berries and black currant. Flavor is nice, sweet but smooth. Not too much sugar, candy notes, berries are presence. Smooth body. Not a bad offering..
3.7 Tap. Orange with minimal head. Big fruity beer. Sweet and tart with a dry finish. delicious.
3.0 Bouteille de 341ml, robe brune violette, arôme de cassis et de melasse, goût du fruit en question.
3.3 Bottle Poured hazy salmon-pink w/ medium white fizzy head quickly diminishing to a thin white cap and good lacing. Moderate aromas of sweet berries and flowers. Initial flavor is a very light sweet then a moderate acidic finish. Taste of grapes, berries, yeast, and kool-aide. Light bodied, watery texture, and soft carbonation.
3.4 Tried this on tap at the Yard House in Lone Tree, Colorado. Notes of fruit and yeast in the aroma. The flavor is quite interesting, sweeter fruit/malt notes with a nice crisp dry finish.
3.6 Bottle 341ml. Pours hazy salmon with low white head. Some lacing. Aroma is of black currant, berries, yeast, flowers. Taste is of black currant, berries, yeast, sligth acidity. Palate: ligth body. Overall: Good, refreshing. Not too complex, but it does the job. Very well balanced.
2.9 Orange pink with large light pink head. Salty off nose is unpleasant.Blackcurrant palate starts tart, sweetens in mid, tangy finish.
3.3 Bottle. Pours a hazy orange-red. Aroma of blackcurrant and what. Taste is tart and dry. A good beer but nothing too exciting. Not near as good as Unibroue’s other offerings.
3.3 750mL bottle. Poured an eerie shade of peachy medium orange with a tall off-white head. The aroma picked up orange peel, vinous notes, and darker, concentrated currant juice.. wheaty notes and a touch of banana-ey yeast around the nose.. very fruity. The flavor found dry, toasted wheat and light bready notes at the core.. tart currants, orange zest, wheat, and banana and peppery yeast around.. dry, tart, quick, fruity finish. Light-medium bodied with too much carbonation on the palate (for my liking).. tangy the whole way through.. decent use of the fruit, but this moved too quickly through the mouth.
3.3 Bomber. Pours pinkish orange with a voluminous light pink head that leaves no lacing. Aroma is mostly black currant with faint citrus and wheat notes. One note, but nice. Flavor is more balanced. Lots of black currant, some orange, a bit of clove, coriander, pepper, and wheat. The flavor opens up as the beer warms. Light mouthfeel. Early on, highly effervescent carbonation. The black currant is a nice twist, but there’s not really quite enough else going on with this beer. Enjoyed it though.
3.6 Tap at Dexters. Unfiltered orange-red. Thin white head rims the glass. Some dry, mineral pit tastes. Subtle fruity tang. Soft on the palate, medium bodied. Soft berry in the finish, but sort of unpronounced. Enjoyable and easy.
2.8 Nothing too special about this except the wacky appearance... I’ve had blackcurrant lambics before, never a regular beer. I’d take the former, really, there wasn’t much beer flavour here, even the Unibroue yeast character was surprisingly muted. Carbonation was quite high. Better than the pomme, and not too sweet. Good.
3.6 On tap at Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours cloudy orange with a thick pinkish orange head and a fruity aroma. There is a subtle grape and caramel flavor with a bitter finish.
3.3 Pours pink-orange with a pinkish white head. The aroma is wheaty with some coriander and lemongrass. The taste has an up-front cidery acidity, which fades to a spiced, wheaty and yeasty finish with minimal hops. Interesting fruit beer but not going out of the way to be intense or unique.
