Unibroue Trois Pistoles

Unibroue Trois Pistoles

Strong Belgian type ale similar to a Port wine! Is as dark as can be, mellow in taste with an aroma of ripe fruits. It can be compared to an old porto and is brewed from well roasted malt.

3.7 33 cl fles. Troebel bruin bier met crème kleurig schuim. Geur: suiker, karamel, fruitig, granaatappel, notie van Cuberdon siroopvulling. Smaak: zoet, gedroogd fruit, karamel, ietwat banaan. Goede koolzuurprikkel. Afdronk: droog, fruitig, vijg.
5.0 Gifted for Christmas from Doug Theresa Aadland (purchased at BevMo from Redlands, California for $9.99), Trois Pistoles is a Belgian style dark ale brewed with spices crafted by Unibroue from Chambly, Canada. The air yields cocoa, brown sugar, plums, Belgian yeast, and cherries upon the nose. The appearance is a dark brown that pours a finger and a half of beige head. When held up to light, a dark reddish brown shows. Light reflects dark mahogany as well. The alcohol content is 9%. Brown sugar textures the mouthfeel followed by a cocoa hue. Caramel malt compliments the brown sugar complexion. Roasted malt is drawn out by the cocoa. Plums are domineering to the body and felt to the touch. Belgian yeast spices the comprehension and earthy to the malt frame. Cherries slightly tarts the take and lingers into the finish. Licorice bitters the drink and assists the brown sugar texture. Clove has a distinguishable tone to the finish. Cardamom colors the plum and caramel finish. Raisins gently sweetens the body. Trois Pistoles is a marvelous Belgian style dark ale. The brown sugar, cocoa, caramel and roasted malts, Belgian yeast, plums, cardamom, and licorice combination separates this Belgian beer from the pack. The brown sugar and licorice leaves a lasting impression and feel to the drink. The earthy and spicy Belgian yeast plays hand in hand with the licorice and the tart cherry. The cocoa and roasted malt adds depth to the body. I treasured each drink and impressed by its complexity and depth. Drinking this Belgian beer is like listening to music from verse to chorus, as in from take to finish. The finish expresses another theme that hooks you replaying over and over again every time you drink. Cheers. Prost. Drink for the love of beer. 4.2 Pours brown with beige foam. Sugary candy malty aroma with some spicey yeast. Medium body, malty, cookies, sugary spicey yeast. Classic belgian strong ale. Nice.
Finale leggermente amarognolo e speziato. Corpo medio e gradazione alcolica ben nascosta. Ottima.
3.4 12 oz. bottle. Pours a dull dark brown with a big off white head that dissipates after a few minutes. Big scents of raisins cinnamon, sherry and alcohol. Lots of carbonation with a sour acidic dry mouthfeel. Tastes of golden raisins, cinnamon and yeast that seem to fight somewhat. Warming alcohol burn comes in after a while. A christmassy brew.
4.0 2016 bottle, aged 3+ years in cellar. Ar: plum, raisins, sweet, honey, yeast, ripe fruits Ap: dark red, ruby, minimal head T: med sweetness, fruity, low bitterness P: med/full body
3.8 750ml bottle in 2017. Dark brown with an offwhite head. Aroma of cloves, banana, dark malt, toffee and yeasty esters. Good body. Spicy, malty flavours with lots of fruity notes. Really on point for Belgian style.
0.5 Disgusting, don’t ever buy this again
4.2 12 oz bottle, pours dark red brown opaque, with huge head. Full bodied, with clove and dark fruit aroma. Raisin and red wine taste, then a licorice finish. Mighty fine.
3.8 Aroma 8. Appearance 4. Taste 7. Palate 4. Overall 15. Complex aroma, caramel, dark fruits, a hint of chocolate. Remains me a Black Forest cake. Complex taste still with dark fruits, spices and alcohol coming at the end.
4.0 The makings of a great quad, without the distinguished finish. Like a well tailored suit, only in denim.
3.8 Aroma is apple, pear, and plums. Taste is light sweet malts transitioning into dark fruits and Belgian yeasts.
3.8 Bottle @Johnny's Off License (Rome). Bruna, leggermente torbida, schiuma avorio media. Corpo pieno, carbonazione media. Leggera ossidazione, comunque ottima.
4.3 It's been a long time since the last chance I had to try an Unibroue And it's as good as I remembered. Served in a trappist glass at Las Buenas Pulgas. Dark brown colour, medium head, long retention. Really nice lacing Aroma is mostly caramel at first, turning into chocolate, dried fruits, spices, kinda like a cake, licorice. Medium to full body, earthy creamy texture, good carbonation. Sweet finish. Taste of caramel, dried fruits, barrel aged wine, spices, chocolate, licorice. Wonderful.
3.9 I haven't had their Maudite in a while, but after reading that review, I am still noticing that "Blue Moon" taste. Like a wheat/citrusy combo that crosses between most of their brews that I sampled. This is rather complex...reading "brown rum" in the description which could be adding to this toasty/citrus flavors I am tasting. Also some sweet and tart fruits, yeast, and spices. Murky darker brown appearance with a thin white head that quickly dissipates. Carbonation on the heavier side, but not quite a bubbly beer. Not as much chocolate malt here as the Maudite, as this represents more of an Imperial Brown/Belgian Ale. Doesn't quite stand out as elite, but I wouldn't hesitate to try again.
4.2 Pours reddish brown almost opaque in glass. Little too much carbonation for me so big foamy head. Aroma and taste of dark fruits (almost cherry and a hint of chocolate). Very little bitterness. Will have to have this again.
3.5 bottle. Poured opaque reddish brown with a creamy top. Aroma is fruity, hints of bananas and clove. Full bodied, prickly carbonation, sticky tart finish. Flavour of dark fruits, earthy and a bit tart, yeasty esters with a spicy note.
3.7 750ml bottle @ Matt's. Pours a semi opaque brown colour with a small beige head. Nose is classic Unibroue house yeast nose, rasins. Flavour is deliciously complex, pepper, spices, yeast, raisins, and a touch of molasses. Medium bodied, good carbonation, and a moderate sweetness with a boozey finish. Yum!
3.7 Caramel and spice notes with a touch of pepper. Dark copper with a decent beige head. Dark fruity notes with some Belgian yeasty notes. Solid.
3.7 750ml bottle from BCL at Matt's. #46 out of Canadian TOP-50. Appearence: hazy brown with a tan head Aroma: plums, dark fruits Taste: same with spicy notes Overall: good quad
3.7 Bottiglia.

3.9 Bottle, courtesy of Mister_Li, many thanks! Pours black. Aroma is cooked fruit, strong malts, some phenols. Body is heavy, sweet and boozy, fruity, low carbonation. Liquor-like. Rich, lots of toasted malts. Sweet palate, some nuts. Good!
3.7 Bottle bb 02/09/19. Dark brown color, tanned head. Aroma has sweet malty notes, some raisins, plums. Sweet malty body, raisins, plums, spices.
3.7 33cl bottle from Abeervinum, Rimini, Italy. Pours a beautiful brown with limited brownish foam, very fine. Aroma is nice of liquor, barrel, wood, dry fruits. Body is dense with good carbonation. Taste is pretty sweet, with minimal bitterness. Finish is moderately long.
4.6 12/3/18 With A while cooking a petite sirloin & just hanging out after first day of GI. Poured from bottle. Basically opaque deep red/brown with an expectedly big fluffy head. Nose is dark Belgian yeast and warm stone fruit. Taste is dry, lively, and and full of wonderful dark yeasty notes. Quite sweet up front with Raisins, black cherry, plum & brown sugar bringing a delicious decadent yet balanced flavor. Palate is light, fluffy and full. Surprisingly dry on the finish. Perfect for a Belgian brew with a big punch. Overall, it lived up to my expectations (which were very high). A wonderful beer that’d I’d gladly come back to again and again!
