Creamy chocolate flavors combine with a lightly roasted finish and superb body to balance this traditional brown porter. A fragrant malt/hop aroma and herbaceous hop flavor complete this highly quaffable ale.

3.8Poured into a mini-tulip. A lot of roasty notes, a little earthy nose. The beer was poured out medium brownish. Heavy-ish, dark right at the front. Mid way the body ligthened with a slightly flat finish.
3.4Bottle from beer club. Pours black with medium brown head. Toast to the nose continues to taste along with chocolate and some sweetness, maybe molasses. A little thin for a porter, but overall I liked it.
3.4First of all I wish they would go back to the cranky old man on the bottle instead of the stylized graphic. But anyways, it is a pretty good porter, light on the roasted/burnt toast taste and still has a little hops poking through.
2.812oz bottle...I’m not a big fan of Porter, but this was smooth, creamy, and drinkable so it was good as far as it goes.
3.2Had a little of my wife’s pint at Dewey’s-Kenwood. Pours a deep, mostly opaque brown with a small tan head and a lasting thick ring. Notes of chocolate, toast, earth, nuts, and some roast that only shows up in the nose. The flavor is a bit weaker. Thin-bodied, with low to moderate carbonation and an earthy mouthfeel. Doesn’t live up to the aroma’s promise. Simple porter.
3.4Dry and basement dank taste. Draft at taps and dolls. Nutty and sweet. Carmel notes and sweet. Pretty decent
3.3Solid beer but nothing special. Too thin and lacking in body. One of the weaker beers by this very underrated brewery.
3.2Pretty dry porter with a lot of roasted notes: chocolate and coffee. Not particularly rich, but also not overly sweet. A good match for brats and what have you. Pleasant hopping.
3.5Pours dark ruby to black with a thinner khaki head that leaves some soapy waves of dripping lace. Nose involves notes of chocolate, toast, and nuttiness. Pretty sweet, fairly bitter. Medium bodied, somewhat oily, active, with a toasty bitter finish. Not a bad brew, definitely sessionable.
3.412 oz bottle. Pours a deep brown with a half finger, tan head that coats the glass. Aroma is nice and roasty. Chocolate with a touch of coffee and caramel, and a bit of citrus hops. Taste is balanced. Mild dark chocolate and roasted malts paired with a short, slightly coffee finish. Medium body and carbonation. Texture is slightly thin but clean with a very dry finish. Overall a very easy drinking porter. Solid roasted flavours but balanced well.
2.5On tap. Dark brown almost black pour with a light beige head. Aromas of lightly roasted malts, hints of chocolate, and coffee. Flavor is a little weak and the body is thin. Just not robust enough. Decent brew but needs a little more.
3.2Aroma of toasted malts, taste is toasted malt, molasses, very mild toffee. Okay.
3.2Bottle sample at home from notes. Pours a dark reddish brown color with a medium sized beige head. The aroma and flavor have roasted malt, dark chocolate, a hint of stale coffee, some earthy and herbal hops. Body is thin and flavors are muddled.
3.5A really nice chocolate malty beer. Low abv is what makes this stand out. Very toasty good flavor.
3.4Deep mahogany color with a short lived tan head. Sweet nose with a hint of roasted grain. Dark caramel sweetness with some burnt sugar notes, burnt toast, and a faint dark fruit. Long bitter green hop finish. with some coffee notes.
3.012 oz. bottle in trade with Fletche00. Pours very dark brown, with light ruby notes. Good coffee notes, some sour cherries, molasses, and nutmeg. The flavor is sweet up front, with some significant sour and metallic notes through the finish. Medium to heavy body, sticky, and pretty astringent. Overall, this is a mediocre porter, with weak aroma, and a relatively unpleasant flavor. Not bad, but not very good.
3.8Draft pour at the tasting room. Pours a lighter brown with a thinner beige head of foam. Aroma is bready and roasty. Very bready taste. Nice porter.
3.2Dark brown color with a white head, its nose is nice, soft, and spiced, with slight notes of coffee and licorice. It has a weak mouthfeel, but a pleasant flavor of more coffee and licorice, especially in the finish. It’s pleasant, a good porter.
3.1Aroma: Chocolate, caramel, very light smoke. Appearance: Not sure, drank from the bottle. Flavor: Matched the nose. Palate: Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation, long finish. Overall: A good porter with enough complexity to keep things interesting. Can’t believe I hadn’t rated this already.
3.4Draft to taster at Upland. Looks good; cola with foamy beige head. Smells of mild dark malt and chocolate. Tastes like it smells, only more robust, with some nuttinesa and a bit of roast. Solid on the palate. A decent porter.
3.112oz bottle poured inti a shaker. Pours black with a half fingeo of khaki head. Aroma of cocoa and slight coffee with a hint of vanilla. Taste is light bitter. Coffee and cocoa with some light herbal hops. Mwdium bodied with a really thin texture. Lively carbonation and a decently long finish. Overall, not bad. Enjoyable but not too special.
3.2Very dark rich beer. A slightly less delicious version of Guinness. Coffee flavored stout.
3.112oz bottle via trade. Poured a slightly thinner looking dark black body with a smaller to perhaps average foamy beige head. Aroma is very dusty with lots of dusty malts, dusty chocolate, vanilla candles. Flavor of sweeter chocolate pudding powder, grass, some dry plywood, bad vanilla. Medium to thinner body with soft to average carbonation and a watery finish.
3.4Bottle. Pours dark brown with medium head and lots of lacing. Aroma of roasted malts and a hint of chocolate. Common Porter taste, not heavy but not too thin. Drinkable and slightly above average.
----Hophaze out
3.3A slightly better than mediocre porter. Oily mouthfeel with the typical chocolate and coffee character. Not much in the way of hops, but has an attractive dark appearance and an almost licorice sweet aroma.
3.1Thanks to mattboyer182 for the extra. 12 oz. bottle served in a Surly Darkness tulip. Bottled February, 2012.
A: Pours a dark brown, almost black with a one finger light tan head forming on the pour. The head subsides rather slowly to a nice thick collar. Some splotchy, soapy lace is left on the glass.
S: Milk chocolate, toasted malts and a slight dry roasted coffee are all present. There is a really nice sweetness on the nose.
T: The taste definitely takes a step back. Just some dry roasted malts and very mild chocolate. The flavors leaves rather quickly to some lingering pale malts. The sweetness from the nose isn’t present at all.
M: A bit thin, almost bordering on watery. I wish the flavors would stick around.
O: The beer started off nice, but overall the flavor profile was rather weak and it was a touch too thin for my liking.

3.0Bottle. Pours a deep brown with off white head. Roasted, dark, sweet maltiness aroma and flavor. Meh
3.48/11/12. GTMW. Black pour, maybe more of a really dark brown, with a decent enough tan head. Light coffee and cream in the aroma with plenty of caramel and chocolates as well. Somewhat light flavor with plenty of coffee and touches of chocolate, caramel, and butterscotch. Not bad.
3.412 oz bottle pours a very dark ruby brown with a decent tan head, good retention and some lacing. Smells of roasted malts. Aroma has lots of the same, plus the expected chocolate and coffee. Taste is slightly sweet with the hops kicking in on a short dry finish. Mouthfeel is creamy without too much carbonation, and body is thinner than expected. A good porter, but not a great one.
3.4Aroma is dark malts, chocolate, fruit and a hint of grit. The flavor is roasted and earthy malts, fruit undertones, and hops in the middle that last into the finish.
