(Previously labeled Blueberry Lambic). Blueberry is barrel-aged sour ale that combines the traditional Belgian-style sour with blueberries sourced from Michigan and Canada. We ferment our base blonde ale, Basis, over six to eight months in oak tanks to produce tart flavors, fruity notes, and a funky character. Then, we select a blend of individual batches for fruiting with whole blueberries for an additional three months, creating an intense blueberry fruit character with floral and dark fruit aromas. The final blend is bottle conditioned, resulting in a fine carbonation and spritzy mouthfeel. Blueberry is the perfect drink to share with friends over a plate of good cheese and fresh fruit.
In the spring of 2006, I brewed 300 gallons of top-fermented beer using wild yeast to create a Belgian-style Lambic. We conditioned the beer in oak casks and then initiated a secondary fermentation in the casks using whole fruit from Huber's Orchard in Starlight, Indiana. You should experience a tart, almost sour taste balanced by the aromatic and richly flavorful addition of whole blueberries - perfect to share with friends, and a platter of good cheese and fresh fruit. - Caleb Staton, Head Brewer

3.7Bottle thanks to pailhead for sharing. Dark purple pour with no head. Aroma is blueberries with some sour lemon and musty oak. Tastes extremely sour but so good. Grape skins, red wine, blueberry, lemon, and oak. Moderately acidic. Ultra dry finish works very well here. Good stuff.
3.6Bottle - Berry notes, not specifically blueberry, and bit of tart jam. Purple with no head. Berry and very acidic with some dryness. Nice.
3.8Pinkish purple with a minimal head. Aroma is blueberry, sour cherry. Medium bodied, tart and fruity on the palate, long sour finish. Taste is blueberries, blackcurrant, sour dark cherries.
3.8Bottle: Dark indigo & purple opaque body with a lavender head that fizzes out in seconds to absolutely nothing. Aroma of light blueberry, lemon, light oak, some acetic & lactic sourness, & light must. Flavor heavy with super sour lemon & berry acidic tartness, vinegar, strong yogurt, lacto bacteria, drying wood, cherry skin, & a dry, acidic finish. Burns a little going down, super acidic... But very tasty.
3.6750 ml bottle shared by Willrunforbeer, much thanks! Real nice purple color without any head. Aroma is funky lambic yeast, oak, tart Berry and a shot ton of lactic sourness.
The flavor starts with a slap of lactic acid, followed by residual sugars in the center then it gets and light moldy cheese note. Aggressively sour pucker after the sip. This is going to give me a harsh heartburn. I guess if you like the style, it would be something you want to try but I didn’t get much blueberry in the flavor.
3.6750ml as part of a blueberry sour tasting. Bottled 10-30-13 batch 02-08. Pours murky plum flesh purple, almost no head. Aroma is blueberry, latex paint and ash. Flavor is lemon, blueberry. Strong pucker and a bit of turned oj sour.
4.22013 bottle. Pours plum with soft pink head. Aroma is fresh blueberries, sourness, oak, and vanilla. Flavor is simply delicious, great tartness, fresh berries, and a dry oak finish. Medium body and carbonation.
5.0Best fruit sour this brewery made. Smashing great blueberry nose aroma flavor all way through to crisp dry light carbonation and finish. Perfect lambic funk and cheese and Brett. Great oaky maple character from cellaring. Get this when ever you can
3.5Side by side tasting of the Upland Sour Reserve, Raspberry, Strawberry, Blueberry and Kiwi Lambic.
Sour Reserve Blend 5: soft sour body, buttery, a tad floral as well 4.1/5
Kiwi: no real kiwi characteristics, extremely sour and lactic 2.9/5
Raspberry: one of the freshest raspberry aromas around. Afterwards all is sour and lactic 3.4/5
Strawberry: aroma is q bit chemical strawberry, the body and taste makes one remind of the Hanssens Oudbeitje, let it be a lot more sour 3.2/5
Blueberry: the nicest and tartest of the "Lambic" series we sampled 3.5/5
These beers are not lambics and should not be called as such. It is obvious that the sour character in this beer comes from lactic fermentation rather than a complex process of different families of bacteria and yeast. The aftertaste of all of the sampled "lambic" serie have a repelling sour finish...
3.9Bottle thnx to Geoffrey .
Pours red/pink , instantly fading white head .
Smell is fleshy berry , sour . Taste is sour, bit harsh . Fruity, fleshy . Very dry .
Nice , but very simple ( sour bacteria added rather than a complex mixture of different Brettanomyces - species ) .
3.7Reddish-purple pour with a white head. The aroma has some strong tart blueberry notes and some biscuit malt. The flavor is similar. There is a lot of juicy and tart blueberry character as well as some vinegar and strong tartness. There is also a hint of biscuit malt. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.
4.0Bottle, shared at Thanksgiving dinner with guests. Another gem from b3shine-- thanks Beau! Lovely violet hue, murky, with a lively crown of fine bubbles. Big perfumey blueberry and lactic sourness combine to make a quenching, salivary gland-pumping, treat. Yeasty and woody undertones, sour and dry. Another fantastic American lambic from Upland.
3.2Bottle..Pour ia dark red..Nose is acitic acid..Wish these guys would stop putting out infected sours..Taste is acitic acid, blurberries, funk, tart..not very drinkable..
3.9Poured from bottle to glass. Hazy purple hue with pink hue that dissipates. Aroma is lactic, blueberry, straw, light leather. Mouthfeel is nice with a medium body and zesty carbonation. Taste is sweet throughout with a tart following and a puckering finish. Overs all this is a nice brew.
3.9Poured a dark deep blue, almost purple color with aromas of tart blueberries, funk, wet wood, and sourness. Flavors were sour blueberries, funk, light vineagar, overly sour, but was decent enough to stomach.
3.6Bottle: Deep violet, little head and little lacing. To be expected I guess. Tart unripened blueberry nose and oak. Fairly sour on the tongue. Blueberry is very faint. Fairly acidic, moderate vinegar. Moderate body and mouthfeel. Dry finish, light greenish blueberries, and oak. Simple, yet decent. Thanks Kevin!
3.7More sour than I expected, but nothing wrong with that.... Tart in the finish. Light carbonation. With a purple color. I dig it.
3.7Dark blueish purple. Holy crap this is sour. Blueberry and sour. Very tart. Pretty good stuff
3.6At Avery Sour Fest. Dark cloudy purple. Nose is light blueberries and light acetic nose. Chewy, yeast driven, and I had a clean pour. Some blueberries in there, nice tartness, but couldn’t get past the yeast.
3.0Pours a deep purple with no head. Aroma of oak, funk, slight berries, very vinous. Taste is sour, so sour, vinegar, funk, oak. I don’t really even get berries because this is so acidic, not like previous batches of upland lambics, not much fruit just sour.
4.0750ml bottle pours a dark blue/amber with a thin off white head. Blueberry and oak aroma. Tart blueberry taste.
3.7Bottle. Vinegar, blueberry, and malt aroma. Bluish amber with minimal head. Sweet-tart blueberry, malt, and vinegar flavor. Blueberry flavor comes out nicely. Pleasant.
4.5#2500. Bottle. Ruby blueberry color pour with white lacing. Tart blueberry, funky and barnyard like aromas. Flavor is nice tart blueberry, tart funk and sour finish.
3.3Bottle share at DLD. Pours a murky blue purple color without a head. Aroma is a sour blueberry. Taste is super sour with a bit of a blueberry flavor in the end. A bit too sour to be good.
3.7A fair snort. Really fucking tart. To the point where I could merely sip it. Just intense and insane. Yeah, nice blueberry flavor, and a cool experience, but too much!
3.7750 ml corked and caged bottle a month or two old. Pours a clear purple with some pinkish head around the perimeter of the glass. This is the softest of the lambics we opened as far as acidity goes. The aroma had more fruit character than sour character, so that was a nice change. The taste is soft fruit with a tingle of sourness kicking in mid to late swallow. Medium body with high carbonation. I wish the blueberry could have come through more.
3.8Cloudy, deep blue/purple body. Looks like crushed blueberries. Appearance reminds me of Blabaer.
Funky, soured yeast and malts atop the blueberry fruit base. And damn it's sour. Extremely sour for a fresh fruited lambic. Who needs enamel anyway?
4.0Bottle at home with friends, courtesy of Dave. Thanks man!! Pour is birght magenta with little-to-no head. Raspberry jammy, blueberry, strawberry pit, somewhat funky, acidic, lactic, and vanilla in the aroma. Taste is bright berries, tangy fruit, oranges, blueberries, lactic, light oak, and tannins with a big sour finish. Light body with high carbonation. Really nice sour.
4.3At Stephens House with Stephen, Aaron, and Dave. Pours ruby red with very very small head. Aroma is fantastic raspberry sour tang, jammy, gummy fruits. Taste is fizzy tangy, orange juice, strawberry, some blueberry notes on the back end, finish is a little fast. A very nice beer, love it, not quite sour enough for me. And, blueberry doesn’t work that well in beers most of the time, it is a little watery.
4.2750ml bottle. Thanks to Travlr! March 2014 DC Tasting. Poured a very purple, blue color, small off-white head. Aroma was heavy notes of blueberry. Lots of tart notes. Sour, lots of sour. Pucker. Acetic. I hadn’t had something this tart in a long time.
