Upland Peach

Upland Peach

(Previous labeled Peach Lambic). We first began experimenting with Belgian-style ales in 2006, and fresh, whole peaches were selected as one of the first fruits to add to the sour beer that we had fermented for over eight months in white oak barrels. We use 7,000 pounds of fresh Indiana peaches from Huber’s Orchard and Winery in Starlight, Indiana, destoning the peach pits by hand before adding to the barrels. Peach is a fruited ale with gold and straw colors that shine upon pouring, and zesty amounts of carbonation. Fresh peach aromas meld with floral and wine-like notes. Wonderful peach flavors follow in the taste, accompanied by refreshing tartness with a dry finish and mouth-watering tanginess.

4.2 Bottle from Johnny. Pours cloudy pink with some head and lacing. Notes of sour lemon, peach. Flavours of peach, barnyard, lemon. Taste is light bitter, med/big tart. Medium sticky body with lively carbonation.
3.7 A hazed blonde ale with a thin white head. In aroma, sweet fruity malt with loads of peach, pear, Epsom salts, light Brett, very nice. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity malt with loads of pop corn butter, light acidity, light Brett, Epsom salts, very nice. 8-3-8-4-15
3.7 Shared 750 ml. bottle poured to snifters showing a hazed, orangey color, with a decent layer of white froth, and spots of lacing. The nose was subtle yeast, slight cheese, a hint of barrel/oak, with pit & peach. Light to medium bodied, with good carbonation, the taste was similar, with tartness & tanginess, and a dry finish. Anything peach works for me.
3.8 Bottle a few months back. It poured a golden color with a white head. The aroma was of peach, florals and some tartness. The taste was similar to the aroma with more peaches, florals, tartness, some funkiness and a hint of wood. It had medium carbonation with a nice funky aftertaste. Very good.
4.1 Pours a pale gold with a fizzy, bubbly, white head. A fairly strong peach character in the aroma, along with some wine/oakish notes. Peaches are up front in the flavor, followed by a sharp tartness that fades out and leaves some funky dryness to finish out the sip. Nice and carbonated, and a great finish to day kayaking around in the heat.
3.9 750 ml caged and corked bottle shared. Mostly clear golden yellow with off-white head. Aromas of funk, stone fruit. Tastes of stone fruit, peaches, funk, tart acidic notes, slight oak. Light body with a dry finish. Tasty.
4.1 Thanks Matthew for sharing the bottle! Poured into a snifter showing hazy thick translucent rims, brown center, and sparse white foam. The nose shows tart notes of juicy, ripe peach. The palate is medium bodied and lightly carbonated. Moderately tart with forward peach flavors. Great.
3.7 Draft at Bru Craft. Billed as an oak-aged blonde sour at 5.5% ABV. Cloudy pale yellow orange pour with a foamy white ring. Pungent sour with notes of orange, plum and peach. Big oak. Lemons. Grapes. Not quite a proper lambic but a good strong flavorful sour.
3.9 Rating against an American Sour Ale not a Belgian Lambic. Draught at Row 34, 2/22/17. Lightly-to-minimally hazy, golden-amber with a small, beige and peach-flecked head that fades to cover quickly. Peach in the nose is clear, authentic and fairly well-integrated with the beer character, which itself adds plentiful lactic and Brett acids to provide light band aid and leather that combines well with the stone fruit minerality and strong funk. Lots of skin, acid and pit character which really works nicely with the funky character of the "lambic". I find the jammier renditions of fruit sours still enjoyable but far inferior to the renditions where the fruit is more highly macerated/integrated with the rest of the beer. Anyhow, light oak, but low toastiness with light caramel-tinged honey from the malt and some acetic character, but nowhere near what I remember Upland having when they first started. Flavor-wise, the beer is quite acidic with lots of oak tannin, vanilla, honey, caramel, etc...quite amply malty, with plentiful lactic and light acetic acids. The peach flavor is fantastic, with spicy pit, leathery skin and tons of juicy acidity. Sour, but not intensely so; certainly has let-up over the years. Moderate amounts of engaging carbonation and a soft, lightly oily texture with no alcohol or flaw.
4.2 Hazy light orange poor. Aroma is pure Peach would love this on cobbler. Taste follows nose. Tart Peach. Like it a lot.
3.9 Bottella. Late Fall Monster Tasting. Hazy deep golden colour. Sour peach aroma. Flavour is sour and fruity peachy, lemon.
3.9 Sample at Aficionado’s during the "Big Bad Bottle Share" on 02/10/2017. Hazy orange color with a thin white head that burns away quickly to a film. Short strings of lacing. Aroma of funky peach, yeast and malt. Light to medium body with a sweet-tart peach character and notes of funky yeast and doughy malt. The finish is fruity with a peach and lemon aftertaste. Pretty good overall.
2.8 Bottle shared with and courtesy of a limping but not too distressed marmot in Deanso’s garage. Very hazy orange with a ring white head. Aroma is lactic, damp, tart peach and mineral notes. Flavour is heavy sour (though not the worst burn straight through your body and give you a second asshole like Upland "lambics" can be). Medium bodied with a lactic burn and soft carbonation.
3.3 Bottle shared at Dean’s last Stand. No head. Very hazy light amber pour. Sour with some peach.
3.2 Draft at the source. Hazy glowing gold, no head. Aroma of poopy overripe fruit, herbs, and mildew (like the stink of my clothes when they’ve been left damp in the basement). That aspect is really, really offputting to me, because I can’t tell you how many times I’ve left the house and gotten an hour into my work day before I realize that my shirt stinks and I have no way out except to cope with the stench and avoid other humans. Herbal, sweet-tart, tannic (like a light fruity tea). Lasting sweetened cereal finish. Light body, lively carbonation. Overall: I can’t get into this, but only because of the stink.
4.1 Bottle at Premature Blue Balls with Andre 160729. Hazy orange beer with a small head. Tart peach aroma, woody, citrus, rubber, berries, some funk. Tart peach flavor, rubber, cotrus, rubber, grapes, some funk. Quite nice.
3.4 9th June 2016 Level 42 Bottle share. Thanks to Coleeen. Very hazy gold beer, some lonely cream colour bubbles. Palate is light and semi dry, modest fine carbonation. Light coconut, a little coconut cream. Sour peach with a dose of lemon. Mild acid. Generic fruits. Light finish. Coconut linger. Not bad. Like the coconut, not sure it was intended though!
3.7 Bottle shared on Level 42, 09/06/2016. Many thanks to Colin for this one. A clouded dark orange coloured pour with a small white head. Aroma is funky horsey sour, coconut, lemon. Flavour is composed of coconut, caramac bar, sour peach and pineapple. Palate is milky, medium bodied, moderate carbonation. Nice funky sour character.
3.9 75cl bottle shared at the Leighton’s Back tasting @42nd Level, CW. Many thanks to Colin for this one. It pours a murky golden color with a small white head. Aroma is tangy acidic with notes of peach juice, coconut and lemon. Taste is tangy acidic and fruity sweet with notes of peach juice, lemon peel, coconut and light lactic acid. Medium bodied with good carbonation. Overall, very nice
3.1 Bottle share at Floor 42, with thanks to Cloin. As ’Upland Peach Lambic’, no ABV stated. Thick pour - light brown, opaque, looks like fruit juice, no real head. Aroma is a little vinegary, tangerine, apple, a little acetone, rhubarb. Body is smooth and oily, tingly carbonation. Taste is light, apple, varnish, gloopy sugars, light acidity. Sweet, not very acidic in the flavour.
3.4 Bottle shared in London - thanks to Colin. Pours hazy orange with no head. Tangy aroma, some sweat, apricot, peach, tangerine. Light to medium sweet flavor with juicy tangerine, zesty citrus, some salty sweat, mellow acetic burn. Medium bodied with low carbonation. Tart finish, a little spicy, with more tangy citrus, salty bite. Good beer, but the condition is a little low.
3.6 Bottle at Level 42, from a trade with the Bald Wizzard - cheers Joe, 09/06/16. Murky orange with a moderate off white swirl that soon collapses. Nose is mellow peach, light smoked straw, light wood must, funk, shades of vanilla. Taste comprises more mellow peach, soft fleshy fruits, light mango pulp, tangy citrics, light funk. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, light acidic bite and gentle puckering in the close. Decent peach affair but no great.
3.8 Bottle thanks to Colin. It pours hazy orange with a small white head. The aroma is earthy, ripe, sour peach, apricot skin, funk, dirt, must, lactic tang and earth. The taste is crisp, tart, juicy, sherbet, vanilla, toasted coconut, good mouth - pucker, peach, apricot and candy with a dry finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Nice.
4.1 Tap...the aroma of fresh sweet juicy peaches is a great counter to the sour funk of the beer. That balance between the sweet fruit and acidic funk makes this very interesting brew to savor and contemplate. Outstanding.
3.6 February 26, 2016. Bottled 2-3-15, shared by Milsem, thanks! Hazy yellow with a small white head. Aroma is green apple; peach, apricot, yoghurt, kiwi, some lemon notes Taste is very sour, fruity with a dry sour finish, fruity kiwi, peach, lemon, very dry. Light to medium bodied, dry and sour, average carbonation Once it breath it’s quite good, a bit sour though...
3.5 Bottle courtesy of Milsem. Pours hazy yellow with a small frothy white head that doesn’t leave much trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is fruity and tiny funky with crackers, lemon juice, plums, canned peaches, hay, dry soil, barnyard and lemon zest. Taste is heavy sour and fruity. Mouthfeel is dry, heavy tart, mouth-puckering and light to medium bodied. Finish is sour with crackers, lemon juice, peaches, apricots, sour apples, hay, dry soil, barnyard and lemon zest. Very heavy on the peaches and apricots which is nice but this is just too damn sour.
4.0 A: Hazy orange, no head N: Peach, yoghurt, green apple T: Green apple, peach, pear O: Extremly tart! Still loads of fruit! I like it even though its hardcore sour.
3.6 750ml bottle at home. This one didn’t entirely do it for me -- it came across as too puckeringly sour, pushing almost into acetic territory. The peach flavor was good, though, and tasted fresh and natural. I just wish it was powerful enough to mellow out the harshness of the sour.
4.1 Refrigerated 75 cl brown bottle, 2/3/2015 batch A15 poured into a snifter. Aroma is nice peach, medium body, low carbonation, and very little lacing. Taste is really nice tart peach. Back to back with farm to face, prefer this. This is fantastic. Five years is past prime for me.
