Upright Six (#6)

Upright Six (#6)

Six is a dark rye beer with layered flavors including chocolate, caramel, pepper, wood, cherry and tropical fruit. It starts semi-dry and smooth and finishes fully dry and tart with a small bite from the hops. The overall balance of the Six makes it easy to pair with richly prepared meats along with many harder cheeses.

Malts: organic pale, caramel, rye, black

Unmalted: rolled rye

3.8 Draft at Beertemple, Amsterdam. Pours dark brown with a beige head. Aroma of cherries, red fruits, caramel, malts. Taste is light tart, moderate sweet, bitterness towards the end and after. Not bad.
4.3 LEDER & SPICE GOTT ERHALT’S!!! A LOVER !!! :OOOO. Saison??!!?? Relativ wenig ;)....0,75l/11,15€. DeMolen Shop. Holland.
3.2 750 mL bottle shared by ebone1988. The pour is a darker brown/light black with a thicker light khaki head and a lot of soapy lace as it falls down to a thick collar and film. The aroma is definitely heavy on spicy rye. There is a bit of chocolate malt and a light roastiness. It’s got a little bit of a Porter thing going on that I’m definitely not a fan of. The flavor is much of the same. There is a spicy rye and a chocolate malt that drinks like a porter for sure. There is a viscosity and a bitterness about it that isn’t terrible. The mouth feel is robust and brightly carbonated with a bitter roast and spicy rye aftertaste. This isn’t that good at all. Ugh.
3.4 Bottle shared with koleminer20. Aroma is rye, spices, slight tart, roasted malt, weird. Appearance is dark brown red, light brown head, would be clear if it wasn’t so dark. Taste is rye, spices, roasted malt, slight cocoa, definitely no saison qualities. Mouthfeel is medium body, light carbonation, roasted malt and rye aftertaste. Overall, just weird. It’s a porter with rye, it says it’s a saison on the label.
3.9 75cl, 2016 vintage - Nov2016, B&Co. - An odd yet workable recipe yielding a tasty mix of autumnal Belgian dubbel (ripe orchard fruit, compote), a musty saison leafiness and some rye spice with hefty body supporting it. Earthy, "organic" and subtle use of earthy EU-pedigree hops. Flourishes of iron, liquorice, quince peel, caramel to keep it interesting. Remarkably demure and mature for a US saison. Could pass off as a new, Fantome-inspired, slightly polished dark saison brewed on Belgian soil.
4.5 Six is a great rendition of a rye beer and it delivers in many areas. The aroma just climbs out of the glass and the burst you get from the flavor as it hits the mouth is just as satisfying.
3.8 Draft sample at Oedipus International Beer Festival 2016. Amsterdam, The Netherlands. 02.07.2016. Pour it amber color with big white head. Aroma tomato, cherries, woody feel, nice. Taste sweet fruity, vanilla, oak woody feel, some bourbon feel, just a pinch sourish finish. Pretty nice balanced.

3.3 750 ml bottle poured into a snifter. The beer is a dark brown to black with a huge head of beige foam. The beer reminds me a lot of rootbeer. I get a lot of herbal notes and sugary, root nuances. Sweet overall with moderate spice notes coming through. Medium body and medium carbonation.

3.6 Bottle. Strange beer that starts out like a regular saison (grassy, citrusy notes) but ends with some somewhat disturbing cholate notes.

3.8 Type: 16-oz. draft Glass: Joseph James pint glass From: Naked City Pizza in Paradise (Las Vegas,), Nev. Price: $7 Purchased: March 25, 2016 Consumed: March 25, 2016 Misc.: Got the last bit of a keg; NOTE: Lost all my notes for this one, going with what I remember and wrote on Untappd Heard good things about this place, but nothing really intrigued me on the tap list when I got there. Pizza was really good. Originally looked at the draft list, but the bartender told me that the drafts were all kicked. Then went with an Evil Twin Saison, which apparently was out as well. The lady told me that there might be a little bit left of this beer (probably because I ordered a Saison the first time) and she was right. I might have received one of the last two or three cups. NOTE: Read #6 Saison on the board, but this appears to have been a #6 Rye Beer according to Beer Advocate. Poured an amber, clear color with 1-to-2 fingers of off-white head when I got it. Good amount of lacing on the sides of the glass. Good amount of retention on the way down. (Sight - 4.00) Smelled red apple, plum, dark fruits, light burnt toffee and earthy grass. (Smell - 4.00) Taste was just as good, mainly getting red apple, plum, purple grape and light toffee. Some wintry notes - faint molasses and some rye spiciness - coming in as well. (Taste - 4.00) Medium body. Oily texture. Soft carbonation. Long finish. (Feel - 4.00) Really wish I would not have deleted my notes, as I enjoyed this one. Would have it again for sure. (Overall - 4.00) 4.00 90 A-
