3.1Mostly clear, copper color with an off-white head. Not a huge aroma, floral and a little sweet. Taste is also somewhat sweet up front with a mildly bitter finish. Medium body. Okay.
3.412 oz. can, consumed on 12-17-15. Very nice, shiny, copper color. Clear liquid. Really cool tin/taupe-colored head. Large amount of head. In fact, probably an excessive amount, and that might have cost this beer a rare 5 rating for appearance. Produces good, thick, long-lasting lacing. Very good-looking beer, and very much a “red IPA” in appearance. Resiny aroma. Pitted fruit scents: Figs, apricots. Mineral, malty smell. Good, dry, toasty flavor. Tastes like toast with jam. Lemon and peach from the hops as well as sappy pine. Even a hint of bubblegum, surprisingly. Mineral, almost metallic finish. Lightly dry aftertaste. Soft in the palate. Some liveliness but overall seems a bit undercarbonated. The carbonation seems to have formed as head instead of in the form of bringing out the flavor of the beer. I like this beer, and its flavor combination is right in my wheelhouse. I want to like it more than I do, but, ultimately, it is merely “pretty good” and best.
3.5Can at trailer. Brilliant copper color with lasting ivory foam. Floral, herbal, citrusy aromas. Medium bodied. Citrusy, herbal, grassy flavors with a lightly sweet malt base____tangy drying finish----good.
3.712oz can. Clear red color with a white head. Hops grapefruit aroma. Bitter up front medium body. Hops bitter grapefruit grain flavor.
3.4Draft at Ben and Jamie’s house. Pours clear bright reddish copper with a fizzy, bubbly beige head and lots of lacing. Tastes like pine hops, some caramel malt, dry grapefruit, and bitter toasted grains. Light body and low carbonation. Smells like pine hops, some caramel malt, dry grapefruit, and bitter toasted grains.
3.2From 12oz can to snifter. Pour is a ruby orange color, thick off white head. Nose is lacking; hops, light malt, piney. Taste is bitter, medium bodied. Crisp mouthfeel up, higher carbonation. Ok beer.
3.212oz can to tulip. Pours clear deep ruby red, big frothy tan head. Aroma of caramel, toffee, sweet malts, light pine. Taste of same with minimal citrus and pine. Good bitter malty finish though.
3.3Clear orange pour with a dense off white head. Tons of sticky lacing. Aroma is grapefruit, pine, and caramel. Taste is spruce, grass, and toffee. Lasting bitter aftertaste. Medium body.
3.4From the can the appearance is dark red with a thick foamy off white head that does not dissipate, the aroma is hops mixed with malts creating a lightly hoped aroma, the taste is crisp and hoppy on the front with a strong malty finish, the mouthfeel is medium to full.
3.012oz can. Filtered amber-copper body. Respectable off-white head. Not enticing oily pine aroma. Really has an antiquated feel to it. Caramel/specialty malts...piny earthy odd hop tones. Drinkable, but not that impressive for the style. Rich and malty.
2.9Pours dark gold / light brown with an off-white head. Very light, sweet aroma. Hard to tell what it smells like. Very malty without much hop flavor. This isn’t a bad beer but doesn’t taste like an IPA to me. More like a brown ale or even a weak strong ale (does that make sense?).
3.7Poured from can into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a deep orange amber color with a one finger head of off white foam. The head has a decent level of retention, slowly fading over time to leave a decent sum of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is heavy of a bready and a more earthy and pine hop smell. Along with these aromas comes a decent showing of a grapefruit citrus hop as well as some aromas of caramel and a little bit of sweeter citrus fruit, with just a touch of an onion smell rounding it all out.
Taste – The taste begins with a bready flavor mixed with a decent showing of a hop taste of a grapefruit nature. While grapefruit is the heaviest of the hop upfront, it fades as the taste moves forward, with it being replaced by other hop flavors of a pine and earthy hop. All while this occurs, the light caramel that was present upfront transitions to a more fruity like sweetness with some tangerine and a little bit of tropical fruit coming to the tongue. The sweet remains very light overall, and with the increase in the more dank hop flavors as well as a coming of some light onion and grassy hop tastes, one is left with a rather dankly hopped and malty taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is average with a carbonation level that is on the slightly lower side. For the dank hop tastes and lighter sweetness, the feel is pretty good as it really accentuates these tastes and allows for them to stand out in light of the more bready nature of the brew.
Overall – A fairly nice, more dankly hopped and sort of bready brew. Not my favorite, but one I would get again and one that is at least worth one try of.
3.512oz can from Liquor Max. Coppery orange pour with a bit of a white
head. Nose has tangy pine, citrus and caramel. Taste is of sweet
fruits, tangy pine, some caramelly malt and some chewy resin. Medium
bodied. Slightly sticky. Finishes on the fruity sweet side of
bittersweet. Solid-not-great IPA plucked out of that cooler of NoCO
brewers I did not know -- should had taken the DIPA as it is very well rated. 13.8
4.1I was in love with Dales Pale Ale and Goose Island IPA until I discovered Upslope! Love the taste my only problem with it is the high ABV. I love my beer and after three of these I’m done for the night.
3.0Can from Grease Monkey. Light pour with a white head. Aroma is sweet grain, pine sap, and a little citrus. Taste is bitter, slight citrus, sweet grain, and more caramel.
3.3Neat mahogany reddish color, small white head. Honey, super light pine resin, floral notes. Decent amount of bitterness, some good sweetness. Very oily, medium body, some bit of carbonation. Quite acidic. Fine.
4.0Solid IPA. Not earth-shattering but well made and packs enough punch to avoid generic. Granted I just drove for 14 hours and it's the first beer I'm drinking in my hotel room so I'm biased.
Can in Fruita, CO.
3.1Pretty standard. Loved the label design. Typical crusher. It’s an ipa. Not much more.
3.8Tasted on 5/24/12 from a can. Pours crystal clear amber with an average off-white head that leaves thin lace. The nose is nicely balanced bread malt and floral citrus hops. The flavor is very nicely balanced floral and lightly bitter hops with light bread malt. The body is medium with average carbonation and a long balanced bitter hops finish.
3.8355ml can from AshtonMcCobb - cheers Ash! Pours a beautiful deep amber red, thin beige head that stays around. Aromas of pine, resin, caramel. Taste is light bitter, good balance, grapefruit notes, but good malt backbone. Resinous in the mouth, toffee at the end. Good stuff.
3.8Can thanks to cthomas2390.
Appearance - beautiful dark red and clear. You’d swear the re was fruit in there. Attractive if then head.
Nose - earth, resin and gentle toffee.
Taste - slight grapefruit tang in amongst the caramel and earthiness
Palate - close to medium bodied with a creamy and resin texture and a long dry finish.
Overall - lovely balanced beer.
3.4[Can] Darker shade of amber. A soapy white head lingers. Aromas of resinous pine and bitter herbs. Flavors of orange peel, pine sap, grapefruit mix with a caramel malt backbone. Lingering bitterness in the finish is pleasant. Gassy carbonation. Not bad.
3.212 oz. can from the Pour House. Appearance: 2 fingers tan head, copper amber color, clear, good lacing. Aroma: caramel, pineapple, grassy hops, and light pine. Palate: medium body, average-soft carbonation, bitter finish, sticky texture. Taste: sweet caramel into light pineapple and growing grassy bitterness, finishing with some pine and very bitter. Overall, too much bitter, sweetness is overclassed, palate is off for me too. Nothing amazing.
3.8Really well balanced. They nailed that with this beer. The aroma isn’t very heavy of hops or malt it’s just kind of soft and muted. The taste is really nice though. Lots of juicy fruit and a slap of bitterness. Nothing that is going to scorch your palate. It’s just a really pleasant hoppy bitterness with those awesome tropical fruits and malt balance. Nothing bad to say about this IPA, it’s excellent.
3.4Pours a hazy darker brown with a one inch tan head that lasts. Taste is of raisin, malt, caramel, hops, pine, resin and citrus. Similar aroma. Has a full body with a bitter and dry finish. Easy to drink and rather enjoyable. Never realized it had a higher abv.
3.3Poured from a can, thanks to Ed. There is a definite husky, metallic, astringency to this beer that dominates the flavor. The Hop aroma is nice and citrusy. Sweet maltiness, but not overly so. I am thinking the astringency balanced the malty sweetness.
3.8Can. Pours a clear, amber color with a nice white head. Strong, hoppy aroma with a hint of citrus and grapefruit. Smooth, floral notes. Nice citrus presence with some hops in the flavor. Hard to tell how strong it is. Really good IPA.
3.0Can. Pours orange with deep red hues and off-white head. Aroma is a bit dirty, piney, very malt forward- caramel. Taste is bitter but not very complex. Decent but really very basic, a good for an introductory IPA.
3.5"another nice canned IPA from CO. This one pours quite dark, like a Gordon...red. maltier and spicier than i usually prefer in IPAs but i can’t really complain, this was some tasty stuff."
3.0Appearance: opaque brown color, off white two inch head, very nice head on beer - a really appetizing looking beer
Aroma: citrus, hops, earthy, grassy
Palette: citrusy, hoppy, punch of flavor at the end, can taste how it is a higher alcohol beer
Taste: very bitter at the end, medium body
Overall: this is a pretty good beer if you like bitter and alcohol flavor
