Urban Chestnut STLIPA

STLIPA, Revolution Series #7: We pronounce it “sta-leep-ah”, you pronounce it how you like. STLIPA, which is the acronym for St. Louis India Pale Ale, is actually a DIPA (Double or Imperial IPA- i.e., double the stats of a traditional IPA). We hope it’s a ‘sleeper’ that you’ll include in your set of favorite DIPA’s from one of the best beer cities in the world: St. Louis. Hops- Sterling, Cascade, Mt. Hood, Willamette, Chinook. ABV- 8.5%, IBU’s- 100, OG – 18.5 Plato (UCBC Goblet)

2.3 Off pink pour. Holy hops. Definately a double shot of hops. A lor of pine and grass if you like that
2.9 On draft at Sqwire’s. Mild aroma of hand lotion in the nose. Pours clear golden color, good head retention and moderate carbonation. Bitter piney hops initially and finishes slightly basic and alkaline, which takes this IPA a notch down for me.
2.9 500 ml bottle from Valli Produce in Rockford, IL, served a bit below cellar temp from a Guinness pint glass. Big frothy off-white head decays at moderate haste, leaving chunky lace atop the somewhat hazy/oily bright gold body... nose is musty-sweet, yeasty, redolent of honey-sourdough, just a touch off-putting, almost "sickly-sweet" but OK I guess, not all that strong though...body is rather syrupy, with a doughy yeastiness that the nose prepared me for, sweet and not all that bitter until the finish - and even that is only a bit drier and a bit harder...thick, not quite cloying, low carbonation. I guess it’s drinkable, in that I’ll likely finish this bottle, but that’s about all I can say, not one of my favorites and another not-so-impressive offering from this brewery; getting close to giving up on these guys.
3.7 Keg at the Midtown location, 12/17/16. Clear amber, large creamy off-white head, good retention. Aroma of grapefruit, lemon, pale malt. The taste is grapefruit, pith, lemon, pale malt. Medium bodied.
3.6 A pretty solid IPA. Pours dark yellow with a thick foamy head. Aroma of light citrus, some lingering sweetness.
3.0 Bottle. Light amber body with a frothy, off-white head. Aroma of toasted grain, caramel, floral hops. Hint of resin, pine. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery/sticky texture, lively carbonation. Not many distinct tastes. Some pine. Some resin. Mostly sweet malts. Average stuff.
3.7 Flasa. Tmava zlata az jantarova farba, biela pena. Vona citrusova, grapefruit, mandarinky, alkohol. Chut citrusova, cervene pomarance, mandarinky. Pozadie sladko horke, alkohol celkom citit. Plne telo, vyssia nasytenost. Velmi prijemne.
4.0 Butelka. Barwa miedziana, klarowna, praktycznie bez piany. Aromat intensywny mango, liczi, gruszka, brzoskwinia, bardzo przyjemny, W smaku słodycz przełamana wytrawną goryczką. Dużo wyczuwalnych owoców w smaku pokrywających się z aromatem. Goryczka solidna, wysoka przyjemna, delikatnie zalegająca. Wysycenie średnie. Konsystencja lekko syropowata. Piajalność mogłaby być lepsza. Alkohol dobrze ukryty chodz moc szybko trafia do głowy.
3.6 On tap at the Hilton in St Louis. Clear gold amber pour with thin lacy white head. Aroma is really hoppy grassy, light dankness, pink grapefruit, lots of pine. Taste is sweet, bitter, light booziness. Palate is full bodied with good carbonation, boozy finish. Nice hoppiness, a tad boozy IMO.
4.0 L: -pours a hazy golden-amber with a big, foamy, white head -medium carbonation visible S: -grapefruit,orange,tangerines,resiny,passionfruit,peach T: -Follows the nose -low to medium bitterniss for the style F: -low to medium carbonation -medium body -alcohol noticeable O: Very good DIPA
3.3 Draft at a STL locale. Orange-tilted color, firm head. Nicely bodied. Pretty clean and easy to drink but pretty ordinary in a more and more crowded field. Leans toward the earthy side more than citrus, but well balanced. (#6076, 12/16/2015)
3.2 ktan w jabeerwocky. na szybko: przejrzysta, z niewielka piana, jasne. aromaty niezbyt intensywne, nieco owocowe, ale o dziwo czulem gruszke, melona... choc tradycyjne nutki a la cytrusy czy zywica tez sie pojawiaja jak najbardziej, troche slodowosci - malo - biszkoptowej. w ustach dosc wytrawne, bez lepkosci i wysokiej slodkosci ktora sie pojawia nieraz w DIPA’ch, goryczka ewidentna choc nienamolna, dosc krotka. nisko wysycone. dobre. 3.7 Shared 16.9 oz. bottle poured to snifters displaying a hazed, more orange than gold color, with a presentable layer of frothy, white head foam, and spots & strands of lacing. The aroma was stone fruit as apricot/peach, with some citrusy orange backup. A pleasant creaminess to the mouthfeel helped amp the body to better than medium, with decent carbonation, and a lingering, citrus & rind bitterness, with alcohol presence duly noted. Generated a fruitier, British IPA feel to it, which was a nice change.
2.7 Bottle. Hazy, orange-yellow color, nice fine foamy head. Nice fresh, citrus smell. Light sour taste, heavy bitterness, a bit too mich for my taste. Low carbonation, medium mouthfeel. Bready Malty aftertaste, some off flavour sulfuric, bitter.
3.2 From tap. Pours clear and golden orange with a small white head. Toasted malty and breadish. Toasted malty. Bitter and toasted malty. Breadish and roasted malty finish.
3.6 Bottle: Hazy, deep golden, bigger rocky, lacy and slowly collapsing off-white head; mild to moderate resiny-flowery nose, traces of yeast and grains plus faint illusions of wood and vanilla; moderate to solid bitter-sweet flavour, creamy MF; well balanced and lingering bitter-sweet finish with notes of flowery hops, cough syrup and caramel; hoppy -as expected- aftertaste. Yes, they can…
3.4 Bottle pours golden-syrup coloured beer under a two-finger white head. Slightly cloudy. Hop aroma is partly green citrus, some orange too, and mostly pine. Oily mouth feel. Not much malt character on tasting. The hop components are strong but broad enough to avoid being too one-dimensional.
3.6 Draft @ Marriott, STL. Light hoppy aroma, a little citrus. Color is clear, golden amber, light white head and nice lacing. Flavor of citrus (tangerine?). Med body. Overall a good DIPA, but I expected a bit more hoppiness.
3.8 50cl bottle, courtesy of gregwilsonstl, pours with a clear copper body that supports a full light tan head of foam. The modest aroma offers up mango and pineapple as well as mild spicy earthy hops and some citrus. The taste starts smooth with clementine and tangelo citrus and mango to pineapple hop flavor rolling into more and more hop bitterness. It then slides into a modestly bitter and dry finish. Tasty IPA.
3.3 Pours yellow with a nice head. Aroma: pretty subtle aroma of citrus, some pine tree. Taste: very nice refreshing taste, again with subtle taste of citrus, pleasant pine tree and a touch of sweetness from the malt. Also nice bitter, balanced palate. It is very clean and well balanced. This beer is super drinkable, with the 8% ABV well hidden-it can therefore be very dangerous. It is definitely a plus if one can brew a big beer, which at the same time is very clean and subtle. However, I am personally expecting more aromas and flavors from a double IPA.
4.1 Pours clear coppery orange with a large off-white head. Smells citrusy and some pine. Taste is pine that moves to citrus. Medium-bodied with a smooth texture and mild mouth-carbonation, Urban Chestnut STLIPA finishes with a smooth, soft sweetness.
3.6 On tap. Hazy orange color with white head. Aroma - Nuts, flowers. Taste - Light, mango, hops, honey.
3.5 A nice imperial IPA. Pours a murky orangish color. Has a really smooth hoppy flavor.
2.6 Bottle at The Fountain on Locust in St. Louis (a great place for food + dessert, by the way). Aroma: More malt forward than you’d expect; lots of cereal and a little caramel. Hops mostly tend toward grapefruit with some orange bitters. Appearance: Light copper body with light streams of carbonation with a solid bone cap. Flavor: Malts and grapefruit lead with more orange bitters toward the finish; cereal intensive for an IPA, though it does dry out nicely in the end. Palate: Medium body, sticky texture, soft carbonation, abrupt finish. Overall: Too malty of an IPA for my liking.
3.7 Hazy orange body, lasting white head with decent lacing. Aroma of nuts, honey, hops, a hint of tropical fruits. Starts off very balanced between hoppiness and maltiness, then becomes more bitter and spicy. Smooth and full body. Not extraordinary, but nice enough and pleasant to drink.
2.5 Slight haze in the pour. Nose of nuts, grapefruit, and flowers. This is not well balanced at all. The mouthfeel is light and watery with no detection of alcohol. IPA’s are supposed to be super hoppy but this one is waaay too bitter up front. The malt and other flavors are blocked by the over bitterness of the beginning of this. Then the finish is super short leaving little aftertaste. Odd. Not horrible but I won’t be having this again. Bottle at the hotel lobby bar Hilton @ the Ball Park, St. Louis.
3.5 Found this bottle at Craft Beer Cellar in Columbia. Nice. A bit bready and slightly sweet. Crisp finish.
3.4 Draft at the saint louis brew house. Lighter flavor then I'd expect from a double iPa but it makes it very drinkable . Very good
3.1 Draft at taproom. Pours light orange with a thin white head that leaves a lot of lacing. A little bit of floral on the nose but it’s really faint. Feels really faint to be called a double IPA. I’m not saying it has to be a hop bomb but it feels rather subdued. Finishes clean. It’s not a bad beer but it’s not particularly memorable either.
