Reverence Series #1: Our first beer in our Reverence series of traditional European-style beers, is a sessionable German lager known as a Zwickelbier - a very old ’classic’ with a heritage traced back to the Middle Ages. Zwickel, pronounced ‘zv-ick-el’, is unfiltered, unpasteurized and finishes as a smooth-drinking, vitamin rich (from the yeast), naturally cloudy beer. Hops: Hallertau Perle, Hallertau Mittelfrüh. Malts: Two-Row Pilsner.

2.8 Creamy white good mostly lasting head. Light malty and hoppy aroma. Light bitter flavor. Light bitter finish. Oily palate.

3.3 Bought a 4-pack of these brown 1PT 1.2 FL OZ bottles, rated at 5.1% ABV. on my trip to St-Louis. Pours a sightly unfiltered golden colour with a frothy white cap, good stay and a few foamy spots. The nose gives out a lot of yeast at first, to then show the cereal grain malt nose with a little sweetness in the back. Flavours show off more of the hops over the malts. The hops do seem to come alive in the aromas as well with a little bite, grassiness. Mildly crisp with some light dryness. Smooth drinking for sure and pilsner-like notes. Hops are just a tad unbalanced with the rest, but still a drinkable brew.

3.2 Bottled 500ml (Systembolaget) Hazy yellow colour, small white head. Grainy, straw aroma. Light to medium-bodied. Flavour is similar German Zwickel standard: grainy, strawey with some sweet fruity maltyness. Solid.

3.1 Flaska från SB. Disig gyllengul öl med ett vitt skum. Doft och smak av malt, bröd, citrus och lättare blommiga och örtiga toner.

3.0 500 ml bottle from Systembolaget. Cloudy golden with white head. Light fruit and citrus with grain and flowers. Semi dry with medium bitterness and medium carbonation.

3.5 On tap at GTMW 2019 One of my final samples of the festival, this well done zwickel sets the bar for what distinguishes great, average, and bad. If not for the relatively high cost I would probably pick up a bottle or two to keep around the house. I'll definitely be making an effort to get to the tap room should I ever find myself in Saint Louis again. AROMA / APPEARANCE Caramel, malt, and chewy hops warm the air with a cool feel like a beach breeze. The lean white head soon collapses into the coppery bronze core. FLAVOR / PALATE Caramel, semisweet malt, and deft hops dance around the palate en route to a creamy gentle finish. The transition adds depth to a bright texture. I wouldn't declare this the best zwickel but it certainly makes a case as a solid benchmark for comparing others.

3.1 Bottled, from Systembolaget. Almost clear golden, mid sized head. Aroma of sweet red apples and grass. Mid sweet with medium body and rounded mouthfeel. Fruity with apples, hay and notes of sassafrass. Mid bitter finish. On the sweet and fruity side.

3.2 Golden color, large white head. Aromas of yeast, malt, hops and slight hay. Taste of malt, yeast, minerals, hops and hay.

3.0 Bottle (50 cl) from Systembolaget.Clear golden, medium white head. Bready malt, herbal and floral hops with notes of mushrooms. Dry, low to medium bitterness.

3.8 Bottle. Hazy hay yellow liquid with medium off-white head. Aroma of floral hops, bread, toast, light grain, light fruity yeast and hay. Taste is light sweet and light to medium bitter with notes of floral hops and bread. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Great!

3.5 Kraftigt maltig arom med nån form av ladugårdslukt som smyger sig in. Mäktig, rund, välbalanserad maltsmak med en aning bäska. Väldigt smakrik trots hyfsat modest alkoholhalt. Fantastiskt välgjord.

3.3 Bottle 50 cl. Comes as "Hallertauer Zwickel" - brewed in Wolnzach, Germany. Pours yellow with a slight haze and a rich, white head. Lovely grainy German nose. Medium body, sweet malt, floral hops, a little wort-like character with very subdued bittering hops. About as classic as it can possibly be for the style. Nice. 070719

3.2 Meh. Helt ok. Pragig lager. Små bubblor. Låg beska.

3.3 @ Havregatan 20190627. Bottle (500 ml) from Systembolaget. Malty, grainy, bready, grassy and light fruity with hay, medium body with a watery to oily texture. The finish is bitter.

3.0 Gulbrun lett tåkete med fingerhøyt hvitt skum. Lukter maltekstrakt, tørket aprikos, lyst brød og noe gjær. Middels fylde. Søtlig, maltig smak, karamell, maltekstrakt, lyst brød og tørket frukt. Kort.

3.5 Golden almost hazy. Full head initially. Malt and earth aroma. Malty and nutty taste. Balanced bitterness.

3.9 Flaska från systembolaget. Disigt gul med ett vitt skum. Halm, bröd och bra beska. Lagom oborstad.

3.8 Flaska från SB. Disig gyllengul vätska med högt vitt skum. Bröd, jäst och och säd i doft och smak. Mjuk och len, rund smak, lätt beska, säd, jäst och lite frktu i eftersmaken. Relativt stiltypisk och inte långt efter klassiska tyska bryggerier. Mycket gott.

3.6 500ml Bottle - Hazy golden in colour. Lime leaves, grass and lemon zest in the aroma. Grass, straw, lime and some floral notes in the taste. Refreshing and enjoyable.

3.3 Bottle from systembolaget. Pours a golden colour beer with a medium head. Malty with notes of citrus, bread and grass. Dry finish.

3.7 Bottled from Systembolaget Golden. Medium head. Bready, fruity and Medium bitterness. Crisp.

4.1 Flaska. Härligt brödig keller med inslag av örter, citrus, honung och blommor. Lite sådär mjölig munkänsla. Inte visste jag att jänkarna kan brygga keller i toppklass!

3.4 Flaska 500 ml från Systembolaget. Guldgul och disig med skum som snabbt försvinner. Maltig doft med inslag av citrus, örter och honung. Maltig smak med inslag av bröd, honung, örter, kryddor och citrus. Frisk och fruktig.

3.4 Cloudy gold pour. Sweet leaning malt on the nose with a little noble grassy hop bite. Flavor has a bit of yeast as well. Refreshing but nothing really stood out. 3.4+

3.7 Bottle in garden, from Biervana, to mark Spring, 23rd February 19. Pours a slighlty cloudy straw colour. Aroma is hay, light aromatic. Taste is clean, light bitter, refreshing, hay, grassy, pretty good.
