3.2 Thanks kiefdog for the share. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Nose is plum, chocolate, vinous fruit, booze, and a bit of tartness. Flavor is chocolate, tart cherry, vinous fruit, tartness, and and interesting wine character. Finish lingers with dry chocolate and vinous fruit in this medium-bodied beer.
3.6 Dark pour with a creamy beige head and minimal lace. Aroma is roasty, chocolate, coffee and carmelized sugar. Bitter sweet chocolate, roasted malts and creamy coffee. Finish is tart and dry
3.6 bottle bought in Madison pours black and meduim in body and tan head with aromas being of coffee, chocolate, roasted malts and hops taste ii of the same with medium sweetness, lightly bitter, creamy and smooth fiish
4.0 Aroma was sweet with malt and caramel notes, the appearance was black with a huge brown head, the flavor was slightly sour with toasty notes and clean with little to no hoppiness. The palate was thick and fairly dry but smooth. Overall a nice beer with clean bold flavors and well balanced with nothing overpowering.
3.4 This beer was a very dark black pour into a pint glass since I didn;t feel like using a snifter. The head is short and white but hangs around a little. Not a bad RIS but then again, nothing special here. I probably would not buy this beer if it were available. I am not quite sure what made it Swedish style? 4.4 damn nice brew! never even heard of this brewer, then this comes along! bottle courtesy of bonk0076, thank you! pours black with a fairly sparse, creamy brown head. the aroma is pretty subdued, lots of lil hints in there though. the mouthfeel is awesome! ubercreminess throughout, never unpleasant. the taste is actually pretty light considering how bold it is, very chocolate milky. great offering, i am surprised this isn’t rated higher.
3.9 Another great stout from this small NE WI brewer, its one of their best. Purchased at Woodman’s in Madison and enjoyed in a plastic cup on Thanksgiving day. I’m not really noticing an aroma, but considering the circumstances I’m not surprised. Well balanced between malt and light hops, tasting a small prune aftertaste, I’m also tasting chocolate, coffee, and mint. Great beer!
3.5 12 oz bottle. Thanks to Erocks for hooking me up. Very dark black pour with a tan ring around the head. Aroma of chocolate, dark fruit, figs. Maybe a bit of a starbucks coffee drink. Flavor is chocolate and dark fruits. Medium bodied mouthfeel detracts a bit from the experience. Pretty well-balanced imp stout here.
3.6 bottle, pours thick black with a thin light brown head. Aroma is big and malty with black patent and chocolate. Wow, I feel like each sip is a pound of malt. Very smooth though with a slight soy sauce character, but it’s not bad.
4.1 Bottle. Dark brown pour. Sweet aroma with prunes, sherry, and chocolate. Flavor is sweet and creamy. Chocolate and light bitterness.
3.9 2009 Bottle - Thanks motortoddhead! - Pours a thin dk brown with a small beige head...aroma is roasty grain, milk chocolate and some dk tart cherries...flavour is similar, rich cocoa, roast, burnt wood, sour cherry, clean on the end with a lingering coffee char taste...cherry stout or just a side effect? Either way, very tasty!
3.4 Dark brown with ruby highlights and suspendiods plus a medium tan lacy topper. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt, sweet malt, perhaps milk sugar, caramel and bready malt. Taste of roasted malt, chocolate, burnt grains, molasses and alcohol. A touch sour but overall just average at best.
3.9 #248 rating for this beer, 12oz bottle from myself, picked up at Warren G’s in Barron, WI. No light penetration, very black with a tan head. Aroma is alot of roasted coffee, like walking into a coffee shop grinding beans, not what I expected, had a bit of chocolate hidden underneath. Dark roasted bitterness, not overpowering though, slightly sweet, more coffee, but a bit more subdued. The dark bitterness stays on the palate for awhile, pretty good. (968)
3.7 Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured reddish brown color with an average creamy brown head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy roasted coffee and chocolate aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy smooth sweet flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations where met with a solid beer.
3.7 12oz bottle from Woodmans in Madison. Pours very dark brown with one finger tan head. Aroma is roasted malt and chocolate with some caramel notes. Flavor is mostly roasted malt with chocolate, cocoa and light coffee. Mouthfeel is a tad thin but has nice carbonation. Finishes with a sort tartness which is not bad. Decent stout and pretty easy drinker.
3.7 12-oz, capped and foiled. Thanks, BVC! Pours jet black. Enormous, comical, towering, rocky burnt tan head. Mild milk chocolate/carob nose. Creamy medium body. Milk chocolate, a little roasted cherry in there. Very mild understated stout, super drinkable.
2.8 12oz bottle. Pours black with a huge tan head. Nose was metallic with some chocolate notes. Very carbonated mouth feel. Simply, no bueno, looks like I got a bum bottle.
2.2 Ugh, I can only assume that "Swedish style" means "sweet", as my initial sniff was of some sweet liquor. Mild roasted malt aroma with an alcohol burn. Taste is dependent on if you put sugar in your coffee, I don’t so this does not appeal to me. A roasted, bitter taste with too much sweetness around the edges. Very thin and watery, poor lacing but it is opaque, whatever. I don’t like the balance between the sweet and bitterness.
3.7 12 oz. bottle thrown in as an extra by Beerlando from our first trade (Which seems like forever ago) that has stood the test of time. Pours a very near pitch black, opaque, with some very faint ruby notes around the edges. Largely black with moderate tannish head that cakes at a decent amount and laces. Aromas are chocolate and cocoa up front, light coffee and creamy sweetness, espresso-esque, with muted roasted malt notes hidden by the sweetness. A touch of alcohol. Initial is smooth, a little under-bodied, with nice roasty notes, light coffee, and decent chocolate flavors. A bit of roast comes through in the finish and aftertaste with some bitterness, and the body has some fruity bits packed in to the roasted and darker body. A little thin, but good enough flavor. A good beer, but a brew that falls to the back of the middle of the pack among Imperial Stouts.
3.7 Bottle from Woodman’s in Kenosha. First of all, you know it’s a small operation when the bottle is sticky with glue and beer. Pours a blackish brown with a ring of a head and oil slick on top. Nose is sweet. Cocoa, caramel, vinous character and ethanol in the nose. Sticks to the side of the glass as well. On taste, it’s mostly roasty and sweet with a clean alcohol burn. Burly mouthfeel at first that dissipates into a slightly watery feeling. Has a tang to it as well. I’d almost place this as a foreign moreso than an imperial stout. Pretty decent, nonetheless.
4.0 12oz shorty bottle. Thick cocoa black-stained-glass red color. Nestle Quick aroma. Big,bold, roasty chocolate taste, while maintaining a smooth mouthfeel. Pretty solid Imperial Stout, albeit a touch watery. Lots of cocoa taste. Good stuff.
3.3 Pours dark brown to black with scant head. Aroma combines dark chocolate with an unpleasantly boozy character. Taste is like chocolate milk on the front, grain husks and dark fruit on the finish. Full bodied, very smooth, viscous mouthfeel.
3.6 Dark pour. Fruity and roasted aroma. Light fruit in the flavor along with a fruity belgian yeasty character. Light roasted and burnt malts also prevailed. Good brew.
3.4 Pours a dark brown/black color with a tiny beige head. Aromas of roasted malts, caramel, some molasses and a hint of vanilla and alcohol. Flavor is of big alcohol front that is followed by liquor/spirit berry flavor that mellows into nice roasted malts. Almost has a wine like finish/ aftertaste.Don’t seem like a stout.
3.7 12oz bottle 9/17/08 (Courtesy of Hopscotch during the CU/WVU throwdown). Pours black with a small tan ring. Aroma of coffee and roasted malt. The taste is of the same with some sour notes. This medium to full bodied brew is pretty light tasting but well balanced and tasty.
3.5 [Bottle] Pours an opaque black color with low carbonation and little head. Aroma of cocoa, burnt molasses and light amaretto. The taste is a little more complex, with dark malts setting the foundation. Caramel, dark fruit, brown sugar and light alcohol all make an appearance in here. The body was a little two thin, and the flavor was a little too sweet compared to my liking.
3.6 Pours a pitch black with a small beige head. Aroma is very sweet dark fruit, licorice and chocolate. Flavor is the same but more nutty with a good malt backbone and decent bitterness to balance it all out. Medium body, oily texture. Finishes initlally dry but then has a sweeter after taste that hangs around a while.
3.5 A big and reach beer with some mixed blessings; thin in body and very light on carbonation (even for an Imperial Stout), but with some nice flavor and drinkability. Pretty good. Color is (of course) black. Body is a bit thin. Carbonation is virtually non-existent; it looked like a glass of wine when I poured it into a tulip. Aroma was surprisingly robust to me given the thinness of body; it smelled to me a lot like bourbon. Flavor was definitely not bourbon-y; roasty with a lot of fruit notes that reminded me of raisins. Pretty good. I would recommend this. Very liquor/spirit like.
3.9 Just maybe the most interesting Stout i have yet to taste. The smooth vinilla taste and velvet like feel sets it appart. Subtle brown sugar ans wood hints.
3.4 Bottle probably 2 years old. Pours black with a tan head. Nose is full of chocolate which I quite like. Taste is sweet and light and overall pretty nice, if not a bit too sweet.
