3.0 Draft @ Trollenkelder, Gent. Clear blond colour, white foam. Yeasty with notes of citrus and spices. Dry, bit tart. Bitter and grassy. Ok.
1.0 Not what I combine with a Christmas beer. The taste disappears after a short time.
3.0 Bottle. Pours a clear golden with a medium dense top. Fruity aroma with a noble hop grassy/floral touch. Light sweet taste with more fruity / yeastyness. Hints of cereal. Body is medium and co2 is lively.
3.6 Bottle from a multi-pack with a glass at The Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours gold with a white head. Aroma is fruity and herbal - yet making me think of seafood. Med + body. Flavor is herbal, yeast, lightly metallic. Sort of crisp. If one appreciates the ales on the shoulders of the bell curve, this is it! It’s rather dry, somewhat hoppy, and fitting my taste range.
3.7 Donker geel bier met weinig schuim. Smaak is zoet en krachtig, vanille, peer en kaneel. Niet het standaard kerst bier maar toch best goed. Smaak blijft redelijk lang hangen.
3.1 330 ml bottle. Clear golden body with a big, fluffy white head. Aroma is grainy with a hint of spices, caramel, yeast and esters. Flavor is rather sweet, pale malt, spicy yeast, fruity in general and alcohol. OK body with a medium aftertaste that’s sweet and alcoholic. I have had this beer a few times now and it has not impressed me much previous. For some reason I found it quite pleasant this time, nothing extraordinary really, but both tasty and refreshing in a sweet way. Forget about the Christmas thing, it’s closer to think of it as a Trippel.
3.2 Pours clear gold with a white head. Aroma of banana, spice and vanilla. Taste follows nose
3.5 Classic blonde Christmas beer with peach blonde colour and snow white, fluffy head. Malt sweet aroma with agreeable spicy notes, peachy fruitiness, white candi sugar, honey, grassy hops; fruity taste, malt sweet, a bit yeasty and bready with nice spiciness and herbally hoppy finish with some warming alcohol. Well-balanced and a welcome deviation from the Scotch-style Christmas ales, I liked this.
3.2 Pours a clean sharp straw blonde with two fingers of white head. Nose is a little monotone, a slightly metallic note and earthy malt with earthy yeasty notes and grassy quality. A little bready with notes of raw dough and pear flesh. Light bodied and crisp.
3.2 (Verhaeghe Noel ) Bottle 330 ml at home, served into a tulip, ABV 7.2% Bright golden colour on the body, tall white head, frothy, with average retention though, leaving minimal lacing behind. On the aroma light malts, perfume, floral notes. Taste has malts, sugar, light yeast, floral notes, light perfume. Medium thin body, average carbonation. Okay beer, pleasant to drink.
3.3 Bottle at home. Has a clear, straw color with a creamy, white head. Aroma of Belgian yeast, grass, marzipan, citrus, wet hay and some spices. Sweet flavor with more grass, Belgian yeast and citrus. Has a slick mouth feel, and a light bitterness. A decent, fresh and well-balanced Belgian ale.
3.4 At Cardinal Den Store Juleøl Testen 2014. Pours clear golden. Aroma of malt and white wine. Taste sweet, sour and bitter; with Belgian yeast.
3.2 Crystal clear dark golden to amber body with a large, off-white, very long-lived head that laces the glass well. Moderate aroma of Belgian yeast, hay and faint fruits including apples. Moderate flavour of Belgian yeast, light candi sugar and fruitiness (apple and banana), with a light spicy and alcoholic background. Moderate sweet and moderate bitter taste. Mid-bodied, smooth texture, moderate carbonation. A good one, but too faint aroma and flavour to be among the very best of Belgian strong ales. [33 cl bottle, enjoyed 1 year before BB date, from Vinmonopolet Vika, Oslo]
3.0 33cl bottle: BBD 30 Jan 16, poured into a Westmalle chalice at home on 26 Dec 14. Nice clear and bright body, golden and clean, on top a white blanket that soon became a sheet and then a wisp and collar within a minute of pouring. Sweet, light malty nose, mild spice hints maybe. The taste more fruity than the aroma suggests, again on the malty sweet side and with traces of spices. Not as deep flavoured as I had hoped, not a lot of Christmas type notes to get me excited, OK, but just not Christmassy.
2.0 23.12.2014, 0,33l bottle @ home: Small mediumlasting head, very light color. Aroma is slightly grainy, cereal, light malts, weeds, hay, dried grain, hints of nuts. Taste is harsh, cereal, yeast, hay, weeds, harsh grass, light malts, minerals, nuts. Medium bitterness, slightly harsh mouthfeel, high carbonation. Boring, and nothing Christmasy at all...
3.4 330ml bottle from Beers of Europe. Pours clear gold, thin white head, gentle carbonation. Aromas of light lemon, struck match, light bready malt. Taste brings a light spice note, lager-y. Crisp finish. OK.
3.2 Clear, slightly tinged gold. 11.2 oz longneck, lazy label that looks like a cheap gift wrap. Sweet, honeyish Belgian pale malt aroma. Nicely hopped, a little lagery, a bit tinny, a bit of a spiciness that reminded me of ginger. Medium body, a sandy carbonation, yeasty aftertaste. ABC Liquors, Betton.
3.4 On bottle from Vinmonopolet Stovner. Cake a golden color, good foam. Medium aroma intensity, good distinct yeast influence combined with floral, aromas are the most distinct. also fruitiness and light citrus. Medium body & complexity. Some bitterness, well balanced. Enjoyable
2.8 Bottle at home from Willems. Clear gold pour with creamy white head. Aroma is fruity and boozy, candied fruits, pineapple, banana, peach, boozy. Taste is sweet, grainy, fruity and boozy, a bit cloying actually. Nothing light about this beer but the color, pretty cloying sweet mess. Heavy palate, medium carbonation.
3.0 Bottle @ Home. Heavy gusher that pours light golden with a huge white head. Aroma of malt, yeast, sugar, light spice, fruit. Flavor is malty, yeast, white sugar, little bitter, fruit, some alcohol. Medium body, highly overcarbonated. 150714
2.2 Clear golden body, white head. Aroma has yeast, some spices, cardamon. Sweet malt and alcohol.
1.9 Boring looking golden body and medium white bubbly head. Very sweet malts, grainy, cheap appeal. it of hay perhaps. White sugar, simple malt. Only the end has some spice and saltyness to it. Really a standard Belgian blond. No character, nothing Christmas about this. Everything that is wrong about Belgian beer (while there is so much good about it). (25cl bottle from Cave Gambrinus SPdC)
3.8 Dobre i chmielne, nieco cytrusowe w zapachu, przypominalo mi amerykanskie pale ale, byc moze dodano tu chmielu rodem z USA. Niewielka piana, zlocisty kolor, brak drozdzowego osadu. Delikatne i lekkie, co dziwi przy wyzszym stezeniu alkocholu.
2.1 light sour aroma, pale, clear, white foam, light sweetness, lightly bitter, light body, oily feel, flat,
3.3 Dark gold with a lasting thin head, tart lemony nose, interesting mix of sweet, spicy, grassy bitterness and lightly acidic citrus.
2.1 2013 Bottle (I believe) - Best By Date of 2014 / 05 / 12 Completely crisp golden coloured body with a very fast-just oily topped off-white head. Aroma of cereal, bread, malt, yeast, wort and more grain - not too pleasant at all. Medium-bodied; Assertive effeverscence with a cereal and grain kick, some mild earthiness and an unfinished wort quality that doesn’t lend to a solid finish. Aftertaste shows some malt, a hint of sugars and the unfinished yeastiness that isn’t pleasant. Overall, a sub par beer, and a poor Christmas/winter beer regardless of where you are, especially in Belgium! Not worth buying and especially not worth bringing back across the pond. I sampled this 25 cL bottle purchased from De Bier Tempel in Bruges, Belgium on 14-August-2013 for €2,00 sampled at home in Washington, after Christmas 2013 on 05-January-2014.
3.2 Bottle at home, thnx Hansi! Sweet malty nose, pepper notes. Clear dark yellow color small white head. Medium body, crisp, sharp bubbles, sweet, spicy, metalic aftertaste. :) Bolton Brew.
3.3 Bottle from Yamaichi. Light yeastiness, pureed fruit, some spice. Lightly hazy golden/amber color, thin head. Mild sweet fruity initial / some oxidation and then sugar / a small acidic note, and then it simpers down into tiny sweetness in finish. Medium body, slight astringency. Okay.
3.4 25cl Bottle from Lost Property. Clear golden colour, white head. Aroma is quite malty, cake, bread, coups be imagination but I found it Christmassy in a way, fruity esters. Flavour is malts, bread, cake, a hint of alcohol and fruity tartness, grape, light spicy, light-tart/bitter finish. Light to medium-bodied. Nice beer IMHO.
