Victory DirtWolf Double IPA

Victory DirtWolf Double IPA

Wildly assertive, intentionally untamed and dangerously satisfying, DirtWolf Double IPA is the culmination of Victory’s double IPA series experiment with whole flower American-grown hops. With two-row German malts and a well-balanced combination of whole flower Citra, Chinook, Simcoe and Mosaic hops, this 8.7% abv brew blends the powerful citrus aroma and fruity flavors, with the piney, earthy and mildly floral characteristics found in these intriguing hop varieties. Replacing Victory’s Hop Wallop® Ale, which will take a hiatus from the market for the time being, DirtWolf Double IPA will launch the brewery’s entry into four-packs when it begins to hit markets in October".
“So a wolf and a prospector walked into a bar…,” joked President and Brewmaster, Bill Covaleski. “No, in all seriousness, Hop Wallop will be missed, but isn’t necessarily gone forever. We developed that brand 10 years ago as our flavorful response to the hop-bomb vogue of the time. But as brewers who enjoy experimenting with beer styles and ingredient varieties, we looked for the opportunity to do other interesting recipes as time passed. Making the decision to put Hop Wallop aside for a few years allows us to bring this delicious new double IPA, DirtWolf, to the market in bottles.

Darkly heroic, Humulus Lupulus (hops) have empowered brews with bite and character since the 11th century. DirtWolf is a tribute to these untamed vines which rise from the earth with the voracity of a ’wolf among sheep.’ Hops have made an assertive comeback in American craft brewing. Revel in the best US varieties of hops, in their natural, whole flower form, as they bring a vital, pungent reality to the soul of a wild element in our dangerously satisfying DirtWolf. Cheers, Bill, Ron, The Brewmasters of Victory.

4.1 One of my favorite new DIPAs. Very bitter like their old Hop Wallup, but maybe a little more malt in there for flavor. Great balance and smooth feel. Aroma has pine and citrus. Excellent IPA that I'll be getting more of.
3.4 A bit more west coast than I prefer and not as malty as I prefer my double IPAs, but not too biting.
3.6 Bottle from Total Wine. No bottled date. It’s from Total Wine so you know it’s old. I bet this would fantastic fresh. Hops are spicy, pineapple juice, weed, some pine bitterness & a little subdued by age. I’m picking up on the booze more than other reviewers seem to be. Would love a fresh pint of this. Set me up.
1.9 Flowery hops smell...pretty complex too!!! Smells quite peppery...taste is VERY peppery on the front...then bitter...and then both...very bold flavor...but stays towards pepper and bitter...no complexity...too harsh and controlling for me....just gets worse with warmth....had at bone in BBQ for lunch
3.4 Pours clear golden with a bubbly white head. Light carbonation. Aroma of sweet malt and hops. Taste is lighter than expected for an IPA. Palate contains hops, fruity notes as well as an ending resin. Excellent DIPA. tropical notes throughout.
3.8 Bottle thx Seb for letting go of this A: loads of citrusy, piny, grapefruit App: clear golden with sparing white head. T/p: med body with long bitter finish. Moderate carbonation. O: Nice west coast themed dipa. It offers quite a bite. Tasty one.
3.5 Bottle 33 cl. Golden, clear with a medium white head. Aroma of floral hops and candy. Bitter with a ok hop end. Oliver twist, Stockholm 2019
3.9 Golden, full bodied, dry, pine and Citrus. No gimmick Double IPA from Victory.
4.5 Chappy’s Social House, Centerville, OH, draft. O. M. G. Golden and clear. Delicious. Bubblegum? Grapefruit aroma.
3.6 355ml bottle. Pours clear gold orange. Peach, grapefruit, apricot, lemon, sherbet, caramel, nice bittersweet finish. Medium body. Tasty.
3.8 Very solid strong IPA beer. Strong fruit flavors with a solid bitter aftertaste. A little bit too strong for my taste. Still very good.
4.8 8/3/18 With A downloading Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. Poured from bottle into a tulip. Hazy copper with a minimal head. The label is still cool (as are nearly all Victory brews) but the previous version with the wolf made from hop flowers was probably the coolest label I've ever seen - this is a downgrade. Nose is assertive with oily, piney hops and a good citrus presence. Taste is immensely dank and resinous with herbal flavors leading the way. Maybe a touch of citrus, but it definitely takes a back seat to the piney hop flavor. Quite a bit of sweet caramel and crisp pilsner malts as well. Nicely balanced - simultaneously strikingly bitter and quite sweet. Incredible. Palate is med-thick and sticky. An easy drinker for such a big beer. Lots of residual sweetness in addition to the veritable forest of piney hops that linger. Overall, this was probably the first beer that completely blew me away and it has continued to do so every time I've had it since. A ridiculously dank & sweet, perfect DIPA.
4.0 On tap at the Old Towne Pub in Bordentown, NJ. Pour is light yellow in color. Small white head. Very lightly carbonated. Nice happy aroma and taste, but not overly bitter. Very well balanced.
3.5 Pours a clear yellow with no head. I’m tasting pine with some citrus. Very hoppy but drinkable. I would try this again.
2.4 Long time fan of Victory DirtWolf Imperial. Very happy to see it in 6 packs now!
4.0 decent beer. nice spring taste. lemon aftertaste
3.8 On tap Pint House Columbus
3.8 Bottle pour into nonic pint glass from The City, Plaistow, NH. Appearance is clear, golden yellow-orange with decent sparkle, 1.5 finger-width foamy white head with fair retention and nice leggy lacing. Aroma is citrus and fruit/cherry, dank resin, along with slight candied sugar and bready malt backbone. Taste is dank, musty bitterness, earthy, with subtle citrus, fruit, vegetal. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with slick texture, soft-to-average carbonation and dry, dank, resiny bitter finish. Overall, the aroma held much promise but the taste was not as complex, and was dominated by dank bitter. Solid but not spectacular.
4.2 Recently one of my favorite double IPAs. Good hops, very drinkable, and not sticky or sweet.
4.0 Massiv rubbelndes OldSchoolUSDIPAHarzHopÖl 🎆 PilsClear, brachial fruity & with the right TieDyeEffekt..Mosaic machst möglich!?😉...Tap Stuff im STRONGBOWS Kiel.
3.5 Good beer, not much of an aroma but a good taste. Would definitely buy a case of it and enjoy.
4.0 This is probably the beer I have been drinking since I discovered the Victory brewing company. High ABV and high IBU is what makes a beer good for me. Also at the brewery is the best.
3.3 Earlier Rating: 2/12/2018 Total Score: 3
3.2 Aroma is hoppy. Taste is medium bitter hops. Overall really nice balance and not too much alcohol.
3.6 on tap at the brewpub in Downingtown - nice light golden color. Good hoppy aroma and flavor. Pretty good IPA.
5.0 My favorite IPA. Complex pine and citrus hops with a solid malt backbone, creamy mouthfeel and lingering finish.
4.0 Had the pleasure of enjoying this brew fresh on tap at World of Beer in Columbia, SC, great to be able to find this down south! Served in a snifter, this presented a lighter and clearer amber orange hue with a minimal layer of white foam. Upfront this hits you with a dank hop aroma, which however eases into more subtle floral hoppy notes, fresh and appetizing. The taste features a superior balance of hoppy and malty notes, with pine resin followed by caramel grain, other earthy and citrusy hop flavors, overall great hoppy complexity! I also like how relatively light-bodied and crisp this is for a DIPA. Finishes with a mild sweet floral hop bitterness that is a nice changeup from the initial dankness of the hops; no booziness at all either. Not the strongest flavor intensity, but again just features a great balanced profile with exceptional smoothness for the style. Without a doubt, this would be my new go-to DIPA if it were readily available, will be checking the shelves for the 4-packs of this! Stellar craftsmanship by Victory Brewing!
3.3 Bit of disappointment. In nose I can't detect IPA. So I checked BBF date, kinda year left but you would love to try fresh version of this. Anyways. Decent maltiness with some herbal hop leftovers, still decent pine kick. Light sweet with quite intense bitterness, bit juicy grapefruit. Decent as thirst quencher, but hops are faded
