3.1 Transfer from BA reveiw on 3-27-13- Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance – Pours a lightly hazed golden yellow color with a big billowy white head. The head initially fades very fast, but then slows its fade and lingers a bit. Once the head is completely faded (after about 4 min) a decent level of lace is left on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma is heaviest of wheat, yeast, grass and some haylike funk. Mixed with these are notes of pepper, coriander and nutmeg as well; overall a fairly drier smelling traditional saison. Taste – The taste starts out of a medium wheaty flavor as well as some flavors of a light citrus. As the taste advances yeast and the spices detected in the nose, come to the tongue with the orange citrus transitioning more toward a lemon flavor. As the orange transitions to lemon, the bready flavors lighten and haylike and grassy flavors enter the taste. These flavors all take the taste its end, where the funky and hay flavors get even stronger in nature producing a somewhat bitter and a bit unbalanced grassy and astringent haylike funky flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel- The body of the beer is thin in its creaminess and thickness with a carbonation level that is on the higher side. Both are nice for making a crisp feeling brew and suit well the lighter session saison profile that the beer is going for. Overall – The initial tastes, mouthfeel, and look were all very nice, but the finish to the taste, with its big funky, grassy, haylike, and bitter flavors weren’t balanced out by enough wheaty/bready flavors/body.
3.4 Light very cloudy yellow pour with inch of bright fluffy head. Waxy crayon, yeasty scent; bright lemon and pear scent, strong cloves, a bit buttery, clementines. Average carbonation, medium slightly watery body, clean peppery finish. Taste full of lemon and funky pepper, bitter yet smooth. Nice assertive tasting but light bodied saison.
2.7 Bottle. CLIUDY yellow with a huge, white head. Sour yeast and dry aromas. Weird grass and clove.
3.7 Cloudy yellow with a white head. Aroma is a soapy detergent lemon thing going on. It smells like Orval! This is very dry yet yeasty with a sharp lemon flavor that is slightly sour but very bitter and dry. Oh I see what you are doing Victory you are trying to make an Orval clone. Congrats you did just that! Strip away the name this is way higher rated than it currently is. Overall Im giving a bit above Orval for the balls to do this! Cheers!
2.2 Bottle shared @ ChrisO. Pale yellow and golden, average sized white to off-white head. Smell and taste plastic, lemon, orange peel, a bit chemical or artificial. Not good.
3.0 Keg in Tapped Leeds. Slightly hazy golden with a thin white head. Very lemony and sour. Nice and refreshing. A interesting beer.
3.3 Bottle from Wegman’s. Gold pour with white head. Nose is spicy florals, hops, slight yeasty funk. Tastes hoppy and citric with pale malt, mild funky yeasty notes, and a medium palate heft and complexity.
3.2 BTBF. Clear yellow appearance. Bit of a tart aroma. Fruity flavor, spicy, dry and yeast.
2.7 Bottle, pours a cloudy golden yellow with bright white head. Pear and yeast in the aroma. Taste of lemon, pear and spicy yeast.
1.4 For the price would have expected something good. This is like a spicy lemonade. Glad I got a sample bottle cause yet another brew that I would be incredibly mad if I had paid the higher price for 6 of these.
2.9 Yellow, lemon and coriander spicy notes. So much spice in a saison sabotages the flavor I expect from a beer of this style. An unnuanced "saison" is not interesting.
3.1 Sampled at ESBLS. It poured a clear yellow color with a white head. The aroma was earthy, spicy wheat malts, citrus, hops with pear esters and black pepper, ginger notes. The taste was of medium hops, some bitterness, light fruity esters, with pale malts and a dry finish.
3.4 Bottle from Cotteridge Wines; clear straw yellow pour with a ridiculously big head, aroma has ginger lemon and lime, taste has spice citrus, some yeasty action, pretty good for a faux saison.
2.4 Odd beer with a plastic taste plus citrus and berries. Good head and medium body. Good spice flavor.
3.4 Hazy gold. Surprising bit of hop aroma. Definite bit of funk from the yeast. Fairly dry in the finish.
3.2 Pours a hazy golden yellow on tap with fluffy white head that dissipates to leave light lacing. Aroma of spice, wheat, and a slight funk. Taste follows, slight bitter finish, clean and slightly tart. Good saison, but nothing that exciting
2.6 Poured from a bottle into a Victory Pint glass a light lemon yellow with a thick white head. Aroma is saison spice some light citrus. Flavor is upfront coriander/clove spice thinking orange as well. Also some bready funk. Fairly average by a stretch for a session. Bought a single bottle on whim and would have rather now not...
3.3 Bottle poured a golden color with a covering of white head that hung on well. Aroma has grains, spices, and herbs. Mouth feel is medium and there is medium low carbonation. Flavor leads in with spice and herbs while there is a grainy Saison underneath. I thought from the fruit looking thing on the label there would be some citrus or peach or something in the beer.
3.5 Pleasant saison. Mild aroma with some citrus and sweet bubble gum. Taste well balanced mild Belgian ale with hints of bubble gum and a very mild funk.
3.7 330ml bottle, pours hazy golden brown with a bubbly head. Carbonation is lively. At first the nose came across as vegatal with even a bit of washing up liquid but once in the mouth the more nuanced fruity aromas come out, lemon, lychee and fizzy orangeade, with coriander and spice, quite complex and a bit unusual saison, finish is crisp and dry bitter.
3.2 Aren’t all Saisons sessionable? Well, to me at least. This one’s got a somewhat hazed straw body with a skinny little fizzy head. Interesting aroma. I don’t know what’s in it, but I pick up some coriander, ginger, and maybe some chamomile, all over a soft grainy sweetness. The flavor’s a bit spice forward, much like the nose, and has some citrus sweetness. The finish is dry and all spiced up, a bit too much for me, coating the mouth and staying there. Over all, not too shabby.
3.7 Bottle from Bottledog, Kings Cross. Hazy, yellow colour. Thin, bubbly, white head. Smells like the lemon infused aftershave you’d get in a Turkish barbers shop. Lemongrass. Sorbet. Taste is dry, and a little pithy bitter. Fresh palate. A little creaminess. Finish is spicy dry, with bitterness at the end.
3.3 Poured from a 12 ounce bottle. The aroma is very interesting, orange, citrus, peppery. The flavor is husky, peppery, spicy. This is thin and astringent, lacks complexity.
3.6 355ml bottle at home. Pours pale yellow, light haze. Strong herbal note, bay, maybe lemon balm, more lemon itself, white pepper. Taste has a zingy freshness, light saline note. Light body, creamy texture, bay lingers.
3.6 Bottle thanks to allmyvinyl. Appearance - bright golden with a nice head. Nose - lemon and a green pungent herb thing. Also a touch of fresh sweat. Cactus/aloe Vera. Maybe bay leaves. Taste - medicinal lemon balm. More fresh sweat and some tomato stalks. Palate - light to medium bodied with a tangy texture and a long dry finish. Overall - opposite of synergy. The overall package didn’t live up to the beautiful complex aroma.
2.5 Bottle - Pours clear golden with a thin ring of off-white head. Nose is white pepper, coriander, and dry, lightly fruity malt. Mineral as well, but real spicy. Taste is really spicy with lemon peel, but has a weird plastic note as well. A touch of nuttiness (!) and a perfumy, spicy finish. Not my bag at all. When I want to session something, it sure as hell shouldn’t be spicy. Thin, with biting carbonation. Just not my thing.
3.8 I’ve been liking this a lot. nice spritzy head with lacing. Very bright, sharp and dry up front and then the peppery spice comes in followed by a bit more herbal character and finishing light and somewhat lemony. A beer in three cohesive parts. And a low ABV keeps it refreshing.
2.9 Fair saison, on tap at MacGregor Amherst. Light yellow with carbonation bubbles. A story in pepper.
2.5 It pours clear yellow with a fair amount of head and lace. There is a lot of carbonation that rises from the bottom until the last sip. The smell is pretty good, a little malt and yeast and citrus. The flavor is the same, but with a little bit of a sulfur aftertaste that I didn’t much like. Not enough to ruin it, but I never quite got to where I didn’t mind that aftertaste.
3.2 Draft. Pours gold with thick white head. Aroma is lemon, misc. citrus, sugar cookie. Taste is sour lemon (not as aggresive as expected), some dough/yeast/biscuit elements, orange rind. Not as crisp as I’d like...chewier and denser. Good, not great.
