Voodoo Big Black Voodoo Daddy

Voodoo Big Black Voodoo Daddy

Big Black Voodoo Daddy Stout is a Dark Horse and one of the Biggest Baddest Stouts around. This is an old recipe that I called Ecliptical Stout at Jackson Brewing and am finally brewing again for you to enjoy half cent. This was one beer that I have been saving to make again since then, about 12 years ago. So I hope you enjoy it as much as we did then.
Marris Otter, Carastan, crystal 60, Crystal 90, Brown Malt, Munich, Biscquit Malt, House Smoked Malt, Roasted, Black Malt and Chocolate Malt. Chinook, Northern Brewer, Cascade Hops. 25 degrees O.G., 4 degrees plato F.G.
(from 2009 label)

This Is our Imperial Stout that we age in conditioning tanks with oak staves. This adds a classic character of old world aging with out the Bourbon tones. This black ale is 12% alc. and very rich in roasted and chocolate malt tones. Velvety smooth and able to be aged for years. the beer was then aged in each barrel for 15 months

3.9 Bourbon aroma, sweet, chocolate and plenty of caramel. Dark brown color with minimal sized tan head. Sweet taste, bourbon, caramel, some ashes. Medium to full body, soft carbonation, very sticky.
4.4 Black and dense, medium tan head with some nice lacing. Aroma of bourbon, chocolate, vanilla, toasted malts and brown sugar. Tastes quite sweet, literally sugary, caramel, chocolate, vanilla, bourbon and dark chocolate finish. Viscous, full bodied, very tasty. It goes down smoothly leaving a boozy trail. Awesome.
4.1 Flaske: Kulsort øl med et fint skumhoved. Ikke olieret hvilket gør den indbydende. Knastør velhumlet øl med noget kaffe. Alkoholen er ikke sødlig og kvalm. Rigtig lækker øl.
3.5 Tap. Dark brown color with beige head. Aroma is chocolate, vanilla and caramel, bourbon alcohol. Taste is bourbon sugar, too sweet, not much beyond there. Oily mouthfeel with low carbonation. Too sweet.
3.8 Sort brun Kaffe vanijle træ peber Bitter modrtea sød lidt Cremet blød
4.1 Pours black with a full, foamy tan head. The aroma consists of caramel, coffee, chocolate, vanilla, and roasted malt, without any of these impressions being dominant. Lightly sweet taste and with some good bitterness here. Its quite burnt up front, but after this a lot of the flavors represented were predestined in the nose. There is a roasted base, heavy caramel and vanilla, and light coffee and chocolate. Hints of alcohol as well, but nowhere near suggesting that this is 12 percent. Burnt vanilla finish. Medium bodied, creamy in texture, and more carbonation than is found in your average stout. An interesting offering that is bordering on spectacular.
3.6 12oz bottle from Total Wine in Stuart. Black pour with a foamy tan head. Aroma has sweet and roasted malts, ash, licorice, molasses, some wood, and a bit of sour fruit. Taste is of sweet and roasted malts, some sour & dark fruit, molasses, and some wood. Down through the glass, this becomes ashy, yet sweeter with perhaps a cherry component. Almost oily, fairly thick. More than medium bodied, there is some alcohol presence, and the blend is fine, but no better. Finishes ashy sweet. Interesting brew which overall is just ok. 13.7
3.6 First exposure on this big brew. And a big surprise from PA. Not usual to get a good ‘small’ brew from PA. Not to be missed. Yup. I’d revisit this again. Gots an interesting taste thing going on. Yum
3.6 Pression le 18/01/2019 (Hoppy loft). Mousse : Marron, bulles moyennes, s'estompe rapidement. Liquide : Noir opaque. Nez : Malt grillé, chocolat, café. Bouche : Malt grillé, chocolat, café qui augmente au fil de la dégustation, sucrée, amertume modérée. Palais : Carbonatation élevée, manque de corps, longueur correcte.
3.8 355mL bottle from Carwyn Cellars 12%abv no date stamp Glorious pour to it - espresso cream atop an opaque jet black base. Deep roast aroma - charcoal, blackened toast, charred meat, burnt toffee, coffee grinds & bitter cocoa; sort of has an underlying vinous black fruit character that builds as it warms. Very smooth, big, thick, chewy, lingering & warming yet that substantial abv is well hidden overall. Sort of takes a different approach to most imperial stouts - less of your coffee & chocolate, more of burnt things...bread, meat, sugars/toffee, wood all burnt, also dried fruits, licorice too, get sort of plummy notes as she warms. Fairly bitter, finishes quite savoury with a dried leafy herbal (hop?) character lingering with a boozy dryness. Wouldn't have guessed this was a 12% monster - rather drinkable! Not overly stouty overall it must be said - almost like a really big dark brown ale of sorts.
3.8 Bottle. Black. A tan head is soon a coat. "A bit of everything" aroma: roast, bread, grass, berries, earth, mocha. Short of oily, lowish carbonation. Moderate roast, mocha, berries. Not all that sweet so the modest bitterness that comes up to meet it is enough. Good stuff.
4.1 Bottle at home. Very dark brown, beige creamy head with nice retention. Dark chocolate, espresso, leather, charcoal, liquorice, faint anise, dark, medium-high biter finish that nicely lingers. Good body, soft mouthfeel and medium carbonation.
4.0 355ml bottle @ Stadin Panimobaari, Helsinki. Pours pitch black with a small bubbly head. Aroma of roasty malts, syrup, licorice, coffee, vanilla and earthy notes. Taste is smooth, sweetish and slightly roasty with some licorice, syrup, coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla and earthiness. Finish is sweetish and slightly roasty with some syrup, licorice, rye and dark chocolate. Quite balanced and tasty imperial stout.
4.4 Very solid imperial stout. Lots of chocolate dark fruits combined with bourbon deliver a very smooth delicious beer! You can feel the 12 percent alcohol in the background. Still a world class imperial stout. Very low carbonation.
4.0 Bottle from the caigny shop stand during bcbf17. Pours black, small tanned stable head. Smell is roasty, tad chocolate. Notes of coffee. Bit sweet, but not pastry by far. Taste is roasty. Full, dark malts. Clear chocolate undertone. Médium bitterness, by the slightest balance just not too much. Roasty. Tad ashy backbone to further complicate the total flavor. Very nice basic imperial us style stout.
3.6 Smoked malt, bourbon and licorice. Poured from a can a dark brown color with a thin brown head. Taste of licorice, bourbon and coffee, with an oily feel and a bourbon finish.
4.0 Alex’s birthday bottle at Brody’s. Black with light tan head. Sweet deep roasted chocolate malt. Moderate sweet and bitter. Full body and soft carbonation.
3.9 Bottle shared thanks to Alexander. Dark mahogany with dark beige head. Sweet malts, roast, dark chocolate, light spices, caramel, brown sugar, light earthy notes. Over medium sweet, bitter and bodied. Almost fulll bodied. Nice!
3.2 Bottle from A.J.'s Beer Warehouse. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, and oak.
4.0 LCI. Uit de fles geschonken. Prima imp stout, hoppig en volop smaken van chocola en geroosterde mout. Fris mondgevoel door de koolzuur en de 12% abv merk je niet
3.6 Many thanks to Erzengel for sharing! A black beer with a mid-sized to small tan head. Aroma of sweet dark malt, chocolate, some red fruits, melasse. Taste of sweet chocolate malt, toffee, melasse, some red fruits, cookies.
4.2 Dark deep molasses nose. The beer starts deep malty. Intense rich and thick, caramel, malt, deep and rich. Quite dry, round and deep. Molasses, dark roasted caramel, brown sugars. Deep and intense rich aftertaste, moderate bitter, lots of roast, smooth and caramelly molasses mild. Fantastic!
3.7 355ml bottle. Smoky, peaty, chocolatey, oaky. Taste is mostly dry and oaky with some sweetness. Red fruits and smoke. Decent.
3.8 Bottle. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt, light roast, some oak. Black with tan head. Taste is moderate sweet, light+ bitter and dark chocolate. Full body, oily feel and dark chocolate finish.
3.9 Bottle from De Caigny. American RIS aged on "oak staves" rather than barrels, a cheaper way of obtaining a similar, though often more subtle wood aging effect. Creamy, thinnish, greyish beige head, forming a moussy ring around the glass, 'dots' of lacing on the edges and a greyish, thin, diffuse veil in the middle; black robe with hazy, ochre-mahogany edges. Aroma of black bitter chocolate, toasted chestnuts, treacle, brown rum, espresso, candied dates, blood-like iron, pear syrup, peanuts, old wet oak wood noticeable (but low in the vanilla-like scent it normally carries), varnish, whisky, old liquorice, salmiak, hints of stewed beef, vague dry sherry somewhere, and damp dead tree leaves. Restrained sweetish onset, hint of dried fig, more underlying sourishness from the roasted barley really, quickly followed by a beefy umami effect, yet not too much to become bothersome as is sometimes the case in this type of beers; medium carbonation, a tad too sharpish perhaps for the style, but still a pleasantly oily, thick, viscous mouthfeel. The whole mouth cavity is soon covered by a layer of thick caramel syrup-, hazelnut paste- and burnt toast-like malts, with a velvety feel to it; nice mixture of sweet and bitter maltiness, but the bitterness prevails. Roasted coffee grounds-like sensations in the finish, with a lovely, aromatically lingering effect, a tad powdery on the root of the tongue; a kind of sticky, bittersweet, caramelly 'syrupness' lingers too. Oaky woodiness is obvious but not too sharply tannic, just a warm kind of 'rustic' colour added to the whole. Spicy hop bitterness stings through this deep and thick maltiness, but is quickly superseded by a strong, astringent, rum-like alcohol effect, which deposits a too outspoken wryness on the root of the tongue, disturbing the pleasantly bittersweet play of malts, roasted barley and hops. Standard modern American style imperial stout, I'd say, but - unlike many more famous ones - not too sweet, putting more emphasis on the original English roasty bitterness inherent to the style, something I sincerely appreciate. Not overly complex, but rich, thick and well-executed, just one minor issue here for me: too alcoholic in the finish. This, and the beer as a whole, could improve with aging, though.
3.9 8 3 8 3 17 Bottle at home. Near black with a ring beige head. Aroma of dark chocolate, roast, rich dark malt, caramel, overripe dark fruits and licorice. Flavour is light heavy sweet and bitter. Medium to light full bodied with soft carbonation.
3.5 W nosie ciemne słody, ciemne owoce, słodko i czekoladowo. W smaku ciemne słody, czekolada, całkiem słodkawe, lekka cierpkość i kwasek, trochę burbonu, w posmaku kawa/paloność. Bardzo mało ciała, wręcz uczucie wodnistosci, tak poza tym całkiem sympatycznie.
3.7 (Bottle) Aroma: dried prunes, dark chocolate Taate: semi-dry, flavour of smoked prunes, coffee, dark chocolate and roasted malt. Palate: close to full body, low carbonation. Overall: Nice one, quite fruity.
3.2 The aroma is full of chocolate, coffee, roasted malts, caramel and booze. The color is pitch black. The taste is full of chocolate, coffee, roasted malts, caramel, dark fruits, dried fruits such as prunes and dates. A nice beer!
