Voodoo Gran Met

Voodoo Gran Met

Gran Met (Grand Master) is a Flash of delicate flavors. This Holy Grail of Belgian styles is on for the Connoisseur of Craft Beer. We at Voodoo use a special technique of adding the beet sugar to the ale as it is fermenting to soften the alcohol flavor production. This helps in the delicate nature of this ale. We also use traditional brewing for the unique profile. We hop you feel that we are doing our best to honor this wonderful heritage.

Ingredients: Belgian 2 row, Belgian light candy sugar, beet sugar, Hallertau hops, and our house tripel yeast. 29 IBUs.

3.6 Keg at brewdog Edinburgh. Pours golden, nose is sugary, caramel, citrus, taste is sweet, sugary, toffee, grassy.
2.9 Keg at BD Aberdeen. It pours clear golden with a small white head. The aroma is sweet, tangy, apple, pear, melon, candy, icing sugar and toasty grain. The taste is soft, sweet, apple, melon, chalky, bit grainy, oily, slick, sugary, toasty grain and warning booze through the finish. Medium body, low carbonation and oily mouth-feel. Lacks depth and is rather sweet. Very meh.
3.1 Sampled at Billie's Craft Beer Fest 2017 - day 2. Clear amber pour. Notes of caramel, sugar, malts, light hops, nail polish.
4.0 12 ounce bottle into chalice, no bottle dating. Pours lightly hazy pale golden yellow color with a 1 finger dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big lemon, orange, peach, pear, melon, red apple, peppercorn, light banana/bubblegum/clove, candi sugar, cracker, white bread, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, pale malt, and light-moderate earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big lemon, orange, peach, pear, melon, red apple, peppercorn, light banana/bubblegum/clove, candi sugar, cracker, white bread, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate herbal/grassy bitterness and peppery yeast spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of lemon, orange, peach, pear, melon, red apple, peppercorn, light banana/bubblegum/clove, candi sugar, cracker, white bread, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, pale malt, and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; with an awesome malt/bitter/spiciness balance, and zero cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Fairly crisp/clean finishing. Light-moderate increasing dryness from bitter/spiciness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth and moderately grainy/sticky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol for 9.2%. Overall this is an excellent tripel! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, pale malt, and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; very smooth, crisp, clean, and refreshing to drink for the ABV. Great well rounded Belgian yeast complexity and clean Pils malt backbone, with balancing noble hops. Well attenuated, not sweet/heavy at all for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering, and spot on style example.
