Wadworth 6X (Bottle/Can)

Wadworth 6X (Bottle/Can)

Available pasteurised in cans and bottles.
NOTE: Ratings for the cask version should NOT be entered here; it has a separate listing.
Wadworth have been brewing 6X in their Devizes brewery for over 80 years. This delightful copper-coloured beer has a malty, fruity nose with a restrained hop character. The same characteristics emerge on the palate but with more intensity, leading to a lingering malty finish. The beer is full bodied and distinctive but with a high drinkability, ensuring its position as one of the South of England’s most requested beers.

6X is brewed from 93% pale malt, 4% crystal malt and 3% cane sugar. The bitterness units of 22-24 are obtained from Fuggles hops (85% of total) in the copper and Goldings hops (15%) on the hop back plates. Colour rating is 28.

3.0 50cl bottle. Thin white head. Clear amber pour.. an ok but unremarkable brew.
3.9 Lidt tynd krop. Fin humle, uden for meget smag, kun bitter. Mangler noget mere af det hele
2.5 Pours almost clear amber colour, topped with almost no head tos peak off. Bready malty nose iwth some caramel and biscuits. Solid bitterness with wet sock feeling about it. Watery body. Nothing special.
3.2 500ml bottle. Poured a clear medium amber with a frothy, long-lasting white head. The aroma is sweet malt, light fruit, woody resin hop. The flavour is moderate bitter with a smooth, malt, woody hop, light watery metallic palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.
2.5 Pre RateBeer review taken from my 1001 Beers book. Entry is purely for self reference at this point, no tasting notes, sorry.
3.0 tasted a long time ago on my quest to try all the beer bottle in my local supermarket . Not much to recall only that it was a full bodied
3.2 Bottle. Fair hop driven ale, but a bit of a one trick pony. For some reason I find the bottle version tastier than on cask.
4.0 Loved this on tap when i lived in Bristol in late nineties; thankfully the bottled vers doesnt dissapoint: mild bready malt flavour dominates , with some refreshing hops and touch of fruitiness, subtle but not bland; well balanced, refreshing, and full flavoured without being harsh. Some of the newer brewers out today would do well to note the strong flavour which is pleasant rather than overpowering;refreshing the palate rather than scorching it, whilst retaining bitter and sweetness.
3.1 Bottle from The Goat & Tricycle, Bournemouth. Backlog rating from bottle collection and historic scoring. No tasting notes kept, just rating.
3.0 Fine mousse qui disparaît vite. Robe cuivrée relativement claire, peu pétillante. Goût de malte et caramel. Le goût se dissipe rapidement. Manque de levure.
2.9 Smell of toffee and copper. Taste is toffeeish with a bit of fruit in there. As it says on the bottle, it’s ’ easy drinking. You can have a fair few sips of it in a short time scale, there is an after taste but it’s hardly memorable by any stretch of the imagination. A solid beer though that I would like to try on tap if I’m around the area that sells it (in the West Country/South West)
3.1 Well, not bad for what it is, nothing special for a craft beer and it was fairly cheap in my local supermarket so I’ll be nice with this one. Typically the kind of beer I like to enjoy in pubs (in large quantity), a bit spicy but rather tame overall, pretty easy to drink and low abv, not a beer to really write a lot about, just simple, correct, refreshing. APPROVED BY TAVERNY’S BLACK METAL CREW!
3.2 Bottle from B&M, Team Valley, Gateshead. A dark amber fruity ale with sulphur, almond and chrisatmas cake flavours with a slight burnt toffee finish. Pretty good.
3.0 Bottle at home. A yummy, slightly spicy ale that could go the mile down the pub. (Pre app) ---- Bottle at home again. Malt, metal and veggies on aroma. Lingering bitter and Caramel malts. Not great. 3.7 to 3.
3.5 16.9 oz bottle pours amber with a off whit head. Aroma is earthy and malty. Taste is sweet malts, earthy and some citrus
3.9 A true English bitter and that is a compliment. Good malt, mild bitter hops and a beer that you can just keep drinking and enjoying.
3.3 (Bottle)Typical of a English bitter. Light in taste, not really bitter. Lack of a head. Amber in color. Sits ok on the palate. Decent bitter.
2.9 Pours copper yellow. Small white head. Poor retention. Smells fruity along with caramel malt. Medium body. Thinnish viscosity. It’s a bit like white wine...grapey? Floral hops counterbalance sweet malt. Dry astringent grapey finish. Not bad.
3.1 Really don’t understand how I’ve never rated this before as it’s pretty much the staple beer in our house! Pours rich copper with red orange hue, very frothy head. Aroma treacle, sherry and bread dough. Sweet and bitter on the palate and rather heavy on the carbonation.
2.4 Slight sulphur on the nose thin white head malts sugar metalic taste a bit thin in body meh
2.3 Butelka . Bursztynowe o malej bialej pianie .nuty orzechowe .suszone owoce.lekki karmel w tle. Nic co mozna zapamietac MarcinG
3.2 500ml bottle from Asda. Pours a brownish copper with a minimal off white head. Aroma of malt, caramel, some floral notes. Initial caramel sweetness met by a more interesting dry malty flavor. A little too carbonated, but overall I was pleasantly surprised.
3.1 Copper-amber. Medium head, low retention. Aroma intensity 2/5. Vanilla, malt and a little bit of hops in the nose. Malty taste. Medium-low bitter. Medium body.
3.0 Bottle from DandyWolfFloyd in trade, Wiltshire rate and 1001 tick also, amber color, vinous fruity nose , has a coppery hop flavor , metallic finish
2.8 Aroma - caramel malt and a bit of wood Appearance - body is amber and clean. The head is beige and about 1/2", foamy and settles slowly. Taste - is caramel malted, with Kent Golding & Fuggle hops. Somewhat woody undertone. Palate - body is medium, texture is sort of on the thin side, the carbonation flat, and the finish slightly toasted and neutral.
2.7 500ml bottle. Pours a clear dark copper brown colour with an off-white head. Malty and slightly fruity aroma. Malty flavour and some caramel, mildly bitter finish.
3.3 Copper color. Medium-sized, creamy head. Aroma of caramel malt, candies and herbal hops. Smooth , caramel taste with gentle bitterness in the end.
4.2 Very nice bitter. Poured at the right temp with a large thick cream-colored head, plenty of lace, and a clear old penny color. Aroma is malt and fuggles. Flavor is similar to nose with some metal in there, otherwise excellent drinking brew. Strongly carbonated for a Brit bitter. Still, I really like it.
3.0 Always check the English section of beer stores for new counties and found the first in awhile recently with this. Copper color faint nose of caramel and floral. Tastes of caramel, cookies, floral, light nuttiness, faint skunk. Bland palate but non offensive.
3.0 Aroma is great, coffee house, caramel. Drinking I’m not so keen , for my liking, overcarbonated, bit fizzy, caramel, nutty, it’s a good beer maybe cask is better, but not really my cup of ale!
