3.2Copenhagen 11/1 2020. 50 cl can from Meny, Østerfælled Torv, Kbh. Ø. Warsteiner’s usual design on a dark brown background to signify it’s a Dunkel. Declaration about “the German Purity Law”. Why not use it for advertisement?
Pours clear, maroon with a red hue. Big off-white head. Settles as 2 cm thick, frothy layer of foam covering the surface of the beer. Crawling up the sides of the glass. Moderate lacing.
Aroma is medium-intense, sweet, dark and roasted with a light nutty touch. Dark roasted malts, hints of brown sugar and caramel. Light odor of hazel nuts.
Medium strong carbonation. Thin, oily, lightly tingling texture.
Flavor has a strong sweetness followed by a medium strong bitterness. Aftertaste is sweet-ish. Lingers for a while.
Decent macro dunkel which manages not to be too sweet and fairly well-balanced.
3.050 cl. can. A brown coloured beer with an off-white head. Aroma and flavour of malt, caramel, bread and with a roasted finish.
2.1Light brown color, fast collapsing beige foamy head.
Light aroma of rasted malts and some caramel.
Taste is medium sweet, malty, some toffee and caramel. Light body, medium carbonation. Fairly good balance. An easy drinking, but nut so light dunkel. Not bad.
3.4Sampled on tap at Brauhaus Schmitz, Pours a dark reddish brown color with a small to medium beige head. Nose and flavor are roast, dark fruit, raisins, grass, and florals. Lighter to medium bodied.
3.7Pours a clear mahogany color. One finger beige head.Okay retention and light lacing.
Aroma is toasted malt. Light toffee, medium figs.
Taste is toasted barley. Light toffee, light figs. Mossy hops.
Mouthfeel is light bodied. Smooth, velvety. Easy drinking. Lightly dry with a barely bitter finish.
Overall, it’s good. Solid brew. Not at all overdone. I would recommend it and would buy it again.
3.0Bottle from Tenaya Lodge in Yosemite, CA. Aroma is light roasted malts, maybe some raisins. Taste is dark roasted malts, light cardboard and maybe some lightly toasted rye bread. Missing some of the dunk in dunkel 😉.
3.1bottle @ auchan (budapest) brown colour, normal body, average carbonated, light brown head, caramel, roasted malty, toasty, bittersweet, easy to drink
3.0Canned, 0.5 l.
Pours clear mahogany with a medium sized beige head on it.
Malty nose and aroma with caramel, toast and dough, taste of toffee.
Sweetbitter, toasty, mild hoppy finish.
2.6Lara. Arooma: Toasty malty caramel grass. Ok palate. Flavour: Sweet like, toatsy maltiness and toasty caramel, fair. Thin like but ok.
3.40,5l can. Clear brown colour with quickly disappearing white head. Aroma: Caramel, honey with a hint of yeasty and boozey tones. Taste: Has a short malty sweet start with a quite sourish rye-like tone and mouthfeel without any bitter feel. A little bit watery too. Light body with fizzy carbonation. Medium lasting fading sourish finish.
2.90,33 bottle. Color light-chestnut brown, translucent, practically absent head, although filled in a suitable glass at a suitable temperature. Aroma of coffee, earthy, slightly sweet caramels, dry. The taste of quality roasted German malt is sweet, full-bodied, coffeey, juicy, burnt with sugar, and even a little bitter. It looked worse than it tasted, though it was a little wet.
***
2.9Dark Brown (Tea)
Nose. Caramel, toasted bread and a bit of hops.
Taste. The beer body is velvety, pleasant. The taste is malt, slightly sweetish, turning into bitterness from hops and roasted malt.
5.0Absolutely, the best beer, hands down my favorite.
4.3atom. antis. pörkölt malátás illat és ízvilág. mégis könnyű, vizes test, marha jó ivódunkel.
3.7De geur is lekker fruiting. Normale schuimkraag. De smaak is verrassend goed. Best te drinken
3.4Ar: Grass, hay, and some toasted malt; herbal hops. Ap: Chestnut and crystal clear; medium light tan head with good retention, settling into a solid cap of foam. T: Toast and steel; hay, chalk and light coffee; bitterness is low; herbal hop flavor; clean fermentation profile; finish is lightly toasted malt and more coffee. M: Light body with high carbonation; finish is very dry. O: A quaffable, clean dark lager; lots of hay, herbal hop notes, and steely malt.
3.0Pours dark brown with light head that fades quickly; sweet roasting aromas on the nose; mild, off dry, bitter finish. I like it despite the reviews and mass production brewery!
3.3clear mahogany Brown colour, half inch of creamy beige head; aroma of burnt sugar, ash, some burnt plum jam and some honeycomb toffee; taste of toasted rye bread, some slight burnt plum jam and burnt bittenrness; not bad
3.5A great display of what a Dunkel should taste like. Light malty, toasty and smooth. If you like the style and you want an easy drinker at a reasonable price go with Warsteiner.
4.4There isn’t anything particularly “special” or “innovative” about this dunkel but it is a very good beer representative of its species. It is very toasty and biscuity, smooth and not sour, has a slight zing. This is liquid bread. Prost. This is my go to dunkel at a good price. Brings back memories of backpacking Germany.
4.2Very good dunkel, bit more complex than Hofbrau. Dark malts, a bit nutty
3.3A little on the toasty end for me. Body is nice. Fair moth feel. No ral linger taste. Avoids being overly sweet but lacks a little malt depth.
4.3B
4.8This is my favorite beer.
2.3Tap @ BOT. Light brown coloured. Toasted, sweet, bit of coffee, hint of citrus.
