4.1 Open your taste buds to the flavor of smoky walnut and a hint of chocolate, a prestige flavor and aroma. Double bock lager. To all travelers, the best way to enjoy a beer, it’s going to the micro brewery, you will see a difference, Enjoy. Mmmm... beer
3.8 Pours clear dark chestnut, with a thin, tan head. Aroma is dried fruits, almonds and light roast. Taste is plum and caramel, moving to nuts and light roast. Finish is smooth malt. A good doppelbock.
2.8 I liked this the 1st time. Didny the 2nd. Dont kno why. Too sweet
3.3 Clear dark brown with a fast dissipating head. Sweet malt aroma with medium body and more sweetness...final gravity 1.018? Taste of dark ripe plum and fig. Sweet filling finish. My new go to double bock for sauce making.
4.0 awesome sauce. im biased af towards doppelbocks so rip this rating. Seems powdery and chalky like someone else said. its lovely regardless. sweet creamy boozy thicc and smooth
3.5 Caramel malt. Brown sugar. Earth. Clear dark amber with a light tan quickly fading head. Leaves a clean glass. Caramel. Toast. Earth. Medium bodied. Thick mouthfeel. Clean finish.
2.7 Can pours a light brown color with a big tan weird looking head thats fades extremely fast leaving no lace. Smells of malt, figs, caramel, molasses and a hint of alcohol. Tastes of sweet toffee, graham crackers, blackstrap molasses, raisins and honey. Slick, syrupy mouthfeel, light-medium body, ok carbonation and a cloyingly sweet, sticky finish. Ok this beer is way to sweet and unbalanced. Not very appealing! But hey I caught a buzz😀 Next!!!
3.7 Plum-colored with a thin head and a caramel, butterscotch nose. Malty with a syrupy mouthfeel and a dry, caramel finish. Some alcohol warming.
3.3 Can in kimball junction w family. Creamy power packed beer surprisingly easy drinking
2.8 For 8% alcohol, this beer was exceptionally smooth. A little bit of coffee, nutty, chocolate hint.
3.1 12 oz. can. Pours clear dark amber with a short-lasting small beige head. Aroma of malt, dark fruits, caramel. Taste follows nose with molasses notes, nuts, figs. Quite malty overall.
2.8 From Jan 2008 I got this bottle in a trade with Wasatch. Thanks John! This pours from the 12oz bottle a clear amber with about a 1" head of foam that recedes quickly but it has some good lacing after the pour. The smell has notes of roasted malt, caramel malt, grain, and a touch of chocolate. It also has an "earthy" nose to it. The taste is of chocolate, vanilla, roasted malt(it's light), caramel malt, and a bit of alcohol. The mouthfeel is pretty light and it finishes slightly sweet, watery, and again, some alcohol. I think the alcohol is just too invasive in this brew and prevents me from appreciating the actual flavours which come across as too light. I *do* think that they have a base here that can be worked on/tweaked and it *could* be a nice sipping brew but, imho, they aren't there yet. Thanks again John for giving me a chance to taste this one.
3.9 Got in a trade with The-Adjunct-Hippie. 12 ounce can into tulip glass, best before 10/30/2017. Pours slightly hazy deep ruby red/light brown color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big caramel, honey, brown sugar, toffee, brown bread, and toasted biscuit; with lighter notes of nuttiness, roast, raisin, plum, wood, and herbal/toasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt and light fruity yeast/earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big caramel, honey, brown sugar, toffee, brown bread, and toasted biscuit; with lighter notes of nuttiness, roast, raisin, plum, wood, and herbal/toasted earthiness. Mild herbal/woody hop bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of aramel, honey, brown sugar, toffee, brown bread, toasted biscuit, nuttiness, light fruit, wood, and herbal/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt and light fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; with a nice malt/bitterness balance, and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Nicely clean on lager flavors, not too fruity/yeasty. Minimal dryness from bitterness. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready/grainy, and slightly slick/sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol for 8%. Overall this is a delicious doppelbock. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt and light fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; very smooth and east to drink for the ABV. Rich and clean Munich/Crystal malt flavors, just enough noble hops to balance the sweetness. A very enjoyable offering, and spot on style example.
3.3 Ruddy brown pour, off-white head. Aroma of dates and dark fruits. Flavor of prune, fruit and caramel.
3.7 Can. Deep copper body with a tight golden head. Sweet burnt sugars and bread crusts, sultanas and light marzipan. Nice.
3.4 Rich dark delicious beer. Double boch definitely lives up to its name. It's a strong tasting very drinkable post dinner beer, perfect after some dessert
3.5 Shared crowler poured to snifters showing a deep mahogany hue, a sudsy layer of off white foam, with spots & ribbons of lacing. The nose was malty, lightly toasted, some dark caramel sweetness, and dark dried fruit as cherry & plum. Medium bodied, with low carbonation, the taste was similar, but less expressive notes as the aroma’s, somewhat lifted by a bit of silkiness to the mouthfeel, and a touch of alcohol warmth.
2.2 Drank from the bottle. Surprising thin and sweet for a double IPA. Wheat, caramel, fruity aftertaste that was off putting. Not very strong presence of hops.
3.4 Poured from the bottle into a pint glass to drink. The beer had a somewhat opaque light brown to dark amber color with a smallish foamy off-white head with short retention, but decent cling and lacing. Its aroma featured notes of cereal and barley, along with some grainy hops and caramel malt tones. The beer had a somewhat sweet caramel malt and bread blended flavor with subtle earthy and grainy bitterness in the mix. It was somewhat creamy and watery with a lighter body and mouthfeel and low to average carbonation.
3.6 Pours clear dark brown with a very fine beige head. Aroma is roasty. Flavour is chocolate and malt. Finish is slightly bitter. A nicely done dopple bock.
3.6 Bottle. Clear brown with an average off white head that leaves ok lacing. Aroma is malty as expected. Toffee, caramel, hazelnut, and toasted malts. Taste is sweet malts, burnt caramel, and nuts. Slightly thick and lingering sweet nutty flavors.
3.6 12oz bottle. Dark amber color with a white. Strong malt aroma. Slightly sweet malt flavour. Smooth creamy body.
2.8 Strange looking pour.... Reddish copper, almost no head to speak of. Decent nose of nuts, wood, cherry. Mostly flat and dull feel. Rich roasty malts, woodiness, molasses, nutty finish. Meh.
3.5 Have not had a doppelbock in a while, pretty close to flat, very Malty but my first impression was sweet very sweet, I liked it perhaps a bit light and sweet for the style but I will give it another go.
3.7 Bottle. Very dark brown color that glows red when held to a light, head is khaki colored, small, and long lasting. The aroma is on the faint side with sweetened well roasted grains, minerals and dust. The taste is similar to the aroma with dark roasted chestnuts, diluted molasses and leather. The palate is full and a bit oily. Overall: very nice--the world needs more (good) doppelbock lagers.
3.8 Pours a dark amber, bronze color. Sort of an odd color. Barely any head, barely covers the surface of the beer. No head means no retention, but very slight lacing. Aroma is nutty. Almonds maybe. Maybe some figs. Raisin bread. Sweet. Taste is sweet, maybe a touch of alcohol. Syrupy. Molasses, figs and raisins. Almonds, a touch of chocolate. Mouthfeel is medium bodied. Syrupy, silky almost. Don’t know where the alcohol went. Overall, this is really good. I don’t really care so much for bocks, but I amuse myself when I see them. I say to myself "Bock bock bock" like a chicken, and then I buy them. But I’m not disappointed, this is a great one. I would recommend his, and I would "bock" er buy this again.
3.7 poured from bottle...six pack from hyvee...pour is dark brown with huge foamy head....tons of lacing....nose is malt....light smoke....taste is same with light berries included...solid stuff
3.2 Nifty aroma. Darkish appearance; thinish head. Full bodied taste w/some sweet background. Slightly oily. Overall: Nicely warming. Nice. Recommended.
4.1 The aroma is of plum and maybe stale bread. The appearance is a deep purple with a thin white head. The taste is of plum with a coffee end. A little heavy, but overall an eye opener for sure.
2.8 12 oz. bottle poured into a shaker- poured a 75% nontransparent when held to a light source darkened brown color, off white head about the vessel for a head and several very small frog eyes with it, light lacing as it went into my tummy. Aroma of cheap booze and brown sugar. Hits the mouth with a medium body, malt is sweet but is awash in alcohol, some plum and hardwood on the backend. Kind of all over the map, but it’s what I got.
