3.5 12oz bottle poured into a Snifter at 41°. Colo is a dark mahogany with good carbonation and a soft and tight tan head. Aroma is sweet with notes of dried fruit. It has a medium body with a smooth mouth feel. Flavor is mild dried fruit, a touch of peppery malt and a spicy hop note that gives it a mellow bitterness. Overall its a good brew and somehow it has a winter like feel.
3.5 Dark maroon body, with brown foamy head and nice lacing. Well balanced hoppy malty aroma. Taste is rich fruity malts, dried fruit, finishes bitter. Abv well masked. Nice beer.
3.6 Amber color with white sudsy head. Bready, malty aroma. Spiced, bready malty taste.
3.3 bottle, tons of great sweetness, light boddy. its decent, light and sweet. some drinkability.
3.5 Pours a dark reddish brown color with a medium sized creamy off white head. Malt with heavy brown sugar, and orange citrus hops. Bit off balance
3.3 Brown pour with a citrus aroma. If a brown ipa was ever a style, this would be the winter version. Hop, carmel sweetness, and a underlying spice flavor rounds this out. Different, not exactly the amount of hops I would expect in a winter brew, but it was done well.
3.4 12 oz. bottle form Supermarket Liquors. Appearance: finger of tan head, copper to blood red color, clear, good lacing. Aroma: caramel, light fruity malt, light spicy hops and grassy hops. Palate: average carbonation, light sticky texture, medium body, very smooth. Taste: sweet malty caramel into fruity malt with light spicy and grassy hops that balance out the sweetness. Overall, pretty good beer, a pleasant surprise. Pretty complex and subtle simultaneously.
3.9 Brown brew with a thick head that holds a while. Smells of herbal hops. Taste is citrus, herbs and spice. Pretty much like an APA but with a small hint at some caramel malts. Easy drinking with a slightly bitter finish. Good stuff and they did a good job of going after something that is like Sierra Nevada Celebration. Now if they would make it cost the same that would make it perfect.
4.0 Tap at Busters in South Mpls. Pint glass. Strong amber color with impressive lacing. Malty sweetness in the aroma. Some subtle hop notes. Taste emphasizes the hops with malts sticking around to say hello. Some good spiciness as the flavor develops. Finish is mostly hops but enjoyable. I’ll be the first one down to try it again.
3.7 From 12 oz. bottle. A little scent of caramel, nuttiness, spruce, and faint citrus. Amber/Copper color with thin tan head and medium lacing. Lightly bitter and slightly acidic feel to the palate with a stinging feeling for about a minute after taste continuing to a and hop resin finale. A very thin texture with little carbonation. Overall the First One Down wouldn’t be my last one I would drink!
2.6 12oz bottle. Poured an amber color with an averaged sized head. Some fruitiness, caramel, and spices.
3.7 Aroma is pine, bread and spices. The flavor is grapefruit, malts, fruit, mild hop resin and a spicy/slightly sour finish.
3.5 Dark copper read foamy kaki head light lace. Aroma of sweet fruit, caramel, slight hints of seasonal spices. Slight smoke/tobacco/leather. Taste is malt, caramel, citrus, spice, herb, orange citrus.dry alcohol.toffee toasted. Bittersweet with some sticky sweet.
3.7 Dark amber to garnet pour with a 2-3 finger creamy beige head that has great retention and leaves good lacing. Aroma of sweet caramel, wet cereal, earthy grain, then floral, spicy, citrus and fresh pine hops, light bready and tree fruit notes. Flavor is dark caramel, fruity yeast, an odd hint of banana here and there, earthy grain, light toffee, then sweet and bitter citrus, earthy floral, pine, cooked guava and spicy hops. Medium body, dry, slightly chewy entry, light to medium carbonation, light boozy warmth, dry, slightly astringent finish. Good stuff for sure, I don’t know why this isn’t classed as an IPA, but it’s good.
2.5 Bottle. Clear deep amber color, off white head. Aroma of lightly spiced toffee. taste is toast, toffee, mixed spice.
4.0 Pours an almost brown color with off-white head. Winter spices, cinnamon, nutmeg, and some caramel malts on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes warmly.
3.5 Has a brownish gold color with modest head. The aroma is of floral hops. The taste is lightly sweet. The palate is very smooth and strong bodied. This is quite a satisfying beer.
3.5 Bottle. Prune, chocolate malt, and alcohol aroma. Dark brown with small head. Sweet raisin, cherry, caramel malt, and lightly bitter herbal hops flavor. Pretty nice.
3.4 Bottle: Pours deep copper-brown with a puffy yellow-tan head. Sweet caramel, toasted sugar aroma. Taste is woody caramel malt, tea. Growing nutty bitter as it warms. Pretty decent.
3.1 12oz bottle pours a clear copper amber with some lacing, off white head. Nose is very muddled, sweet, some brown sugar, some cake icing, some spice, some raisin, some root veg. Flavor is also muddled, sweet and astringent, a little sweet tea, some Splenda, dried apple slices. Slightly tannic finish. All over the place.
2.2 Not really sure here. Its malty which is . Has some body which is nice. Alcohol isn’t super present, which is nice. Thats about all I can with this one.
2.8 Bottle - Pours dark but not completely black with a medium head and lacing. Has an aroma of strong tea and is very malty. Medium body and finish.
2.7 Bottle from Utah Liquor Store. Pours brown with an inch of khaki foam. Leaves a lot of lacing in the glass. A slight pine note on the tongue. Not much on the tongue. Finishes clean. Really quite boring.
4.1 This is a pretty good beer. Not particularly spicing, but well balanced and its hold its alcohol well. Some nuttiness, caramel, and mild fruit.
3.4 12 ounce bottle. Thanks Dallas! Just found this one hiding in the refrigerator. Pours reddish brown with a decent biege head. Aroma of malt, caramel, and fruit. Taste is caramel, dark fruit, malt, spice, and vanilla. Nice.
3.2 Brilliant copper red color with fleeting tan foam. Tea leaf, spicy caramel, pit fruit aromas. medium body with average co2. lightly sweet caramel, light pit fruit flavors with a tea leaf astringency to balance---not bad.
3.7 Dark amber pour with red highlights and a lasting light doe head. Minimal lacing. Aroma is light faded hops, caramel, brown sugar, some vanilla, with dark fruit throughout. Flavor is much more dark fruit dominant, with some aromatic malts coming through. Really wasn’t expecting the malt character out of this beer seeing the pour, but was pleasantly surprised. A bit of oxidized hops on the finish rounds things out nicely, without being too flat or papery. Nice beer.
3.9 Thanks to Douglas88 for this beautiful bottle from Utah. I favor the malty beers so I couldn’t wait to try this. Pours chestnut brown with red highlights and a frothy tan head that lazily fell off to a thick cap and some big splotchy lace. With this beer the nose finds you. Exciting with a bit of pine up front, ripe fruit, orange, bread and caramel. Malt is very round and approaches chocolate but artfully stops right before. It intrigues. Opens up sweet with plenty of toffee and grain but never becomes chewy. Hops are gentle but firm with light floral and the very faintest hay and dank. Taste is big crusty bread, so much malt but so damn smooth and the sweetness downplayed on the palate. Hops are gentle and give their touch of herbal and bitter then leave crisp with plenty of dryness and bitter in the finish. This was a very impressive seasonal that was gracious and engaging. Vivacious with malt character it let the hops ride in the backseat and completely won me over with every sip. Fat but drank friendly. Terrific!
4.7 Wasatch Winterfest has a thick, frothy, tan head, a clear, reddish-brown appearance, bubble streams, and a lot of heavy, splotchy lacing left on the glass. The aroma is of fruit and brown bread crust. Taste is the same, with caramel, toffee, and a very nice, pleasant hop bitterness coming in at the middle and staying through the end. Mouthfeel is medium to full, and Wasatch Winterfest finishes mostly dry, smooth, and delicious. The alcohol warmth kicks in in the throat and stomach as one drinks it down. This is the best winter seasonal I think I’ve ever tried. I rate it quite high. Get some! RJT
3.7 Bottle to snifter (shared with the Mrs.; thanks douglas88). Looks good; a semi-transparent amber with off-white lacing. Smells and tastes sweet, malty, and hoppy with a touch of caramel and booziness. Good on the palate. Good beer!
