3.4 Bottle: Very dark brown with a small beige head. Chocolate, dark baked bread aroma. Nut bread, chocolate malt taste.... Drinks with a surprisingly nice heft for such a light-weight.....pretty rich tasting.... Not bad at all.
3.2 Bottle at Snowbird Ski Area. Nice dark brown body with slight head. Nose is malty, coffee, caramel. Taste is malty and dark chocolate and coffee. Bitter in the finish.
2.4 *From notes* Thanks to Francis for bringing this back for me. Pours black with no head Not much smell maybe a little chocolate and burnt malt, maybe. Watery with no taste. Overall boring.
3.0 Pretty light/thin porter. Chocolate and roasty. Very watery. Still decent and crushable.
2.9 Uggh, you want to like something you have never seen...now I wish I had never seen this. Nose is nice, roasted malt some chocolate wafting in the background...taste is a porter with a shot of water. Way too light.
2.6 Bottle. Clear brownish pour, with a thin head. Watery and thin for a porter. Burnt malt, molasses, watery, and a bit of dark fruit. Not very good.
2.7 Bottle @ home from Harmon's SLC. Pours and looks like a Coke. Smells s but like milk chocolate. By UT state law 4%. It is a bit light. Chicory, brown sugar. Not much kick or bitter. Meh...
3.3 Porter. 若干の酸味、スッキリしてる、飲みやすい黒
3.0 12 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Poured dark brown with a small tan head, no lacing. Aroma of malts and some coffee. Taste is malty but a bit salty, some coffee nice bitterness towards the end. Drinkable, enjoyable but not spectacular.
3.2 Watery, chocolate, caramel with a little ash on the side. ---Rated via BeerBuddy for iPhone.
2.6 Look - Draft Pour yields a nice off-white head that dissipates rapidly. Not much lacing. Opaque black coloring. Smell - Loads of coffee. Smells bitter if that’s possible. Taste - Very light on the coffee tasting hop bitterness. That’s about all I get. Not much chocolate or anything else you’d expect. Maybe a little cocoa. The bitter finish lasts and sits on the tongue. Feel - Feels very carbonated and crisp. Not necessarily a good thing for me. I like this style to be silky. Overall - Not to my liking compared to many other widely distributed porters. Not terrible though. I probably wouldn’t get it again. Almost seems watered down.
3.8 Nice rich nutty aromas. Deep mahogany brown with nice lasting tan head. A bitter nut taste, with a both of over roasted coffee.
2.8 bottle, ooof, very thin and sweet. Malty brown molasses mixed with tons of water, then old milk.
3.0 Draft at Squatters. A light porter with mild taste and aroma. Nothing unlike able, but on the thin side of palate.
3.3 Aroma is heavily roasted malts, caramel, toffee, coffee, espresso. Taste is sweet roasted malts, chocolate and light bittering hops. Finishes slightly watered down sadly. Appearance is black with a thin pearl head that retains fairly poorly.
2.6 On tap @ Squatters. Dark brown in color with a sort of reddish hue and some tan foam. Toasty, nutty, and fruity nose. A lot of plum and raisin in particular. Somewhat acidic and thin on the palate. There’s a bunch of roasted malts, some coffee grounds, and dark fruits. Not really a big fan.
3.3 Pours dark brown with small tan head. I am not a huge fan of porters, generally - but this is a lighter porter with very little bitterness. Aroma of coffee and malt, sweet molasses taste - malty with no bitterness and very light finish. Very drinkable.
3.1 A nice, light porter overall. Pours a deep red-black with a tan head. Smells of coffee and cinnamon. Taste is light, with cinnamon, espresso and a slightly empty finish. Had in the bottle.
2.7 Tasting at Matt’s Dark brown color, near black, small head. A bit of dark caramel, a bit of dust, light residual sweetness, maybe a hint of lactose and dark chocolate, and not enough character. Not bad, but shallow.
2.5 12 oz. bottle, pours a deep dark brown with a small beige head. Nose brings out stale coffee grounds and light toasted malt. Flavour is pretty dry and toasted, but without much character or complexity, with toasted malt and stale coffee grounds. Nothing offensive, but nothing special either. Meh.
3.4 Bottle - Toffee, caramel and cocoa notes. Deep brown with a light beige head. Toast and cocoa, not bad.
3.0 12 oz bottle. BB 02/28/15. (Whole Foods) Las Vegas, NV. Black colour with a tiny light tan ring. Cookies, chocolate and mild coffee... oh yeah... some roasted malt too. And that’s the aroma. The flavour however is roasted malt, dark chocolate, mild coffee and some mild bitterness. Oily. A bit watery. But hey... it’s only 4%.
3.0 Pours cola brown with some frothy head and some lacing. Nose is quiet, some vanilla. Flavours of vanilla, some light coffee, some chocolate. Taste light/med sweet and light bitter. Light foamy body with light carbonation.
3.0 Pours black, nice thick tan head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is light coffee, a bit of roasted malts, a bit of char. Taste is much better than the aroma, nice coffee favors, a bit of sweet chocolate, toasted malts and a bit of faint fruitiness. Thin mouthfeel, highly carbonated. Pretty average porter.
3.0 Nice dark brown color; Light to medium slightly creamy body; Aroma of malt, & chocolate; Flavor of slight sweet malt, coffee, caramel, and some chocolate; Overall, on the light side - decent.
3.6 Bottle. Pours a near-black color with a rather small tan head on there. Nose is roasty with a little bit of bread in there. Taste is nicely roasty with some hints of coffee to it. Really nice easy drink for a porter.
3.6 Bottle in Moab. Brown pour with ruby highlights and a small head. Pretty much had to try this classic as well. I don’t really get the hate. Maybe people just aren’t into the 4% thing? Me, I think it’s great if you can pull off a decent beer at that ABV, and these guys have nailed it. Mild roast and chocolate, just a hint of ash, some coffee, some licorice -- there’s plenty going on here. Sure, it’s not big and sticky, but that’s a substantial part of the appeal. Really nice porter.
3.1 Clear, light copper, smoky color, tall, persistent head. Pronounced yeasty nose. Extra-light body, weak and simple flavor, balanced in its weakness, well carbonated, good length. Sweet & sour, Roast flavors, barley candy,
3.0 Pours a dark brown with some red in it when placed to the light. The head was off white and dissipated rather quickly leaving little lacing. The aroma is chocolate and lightly/medium roast, and also some mild coffee. The taste is similar but less pronounced compared to the aroma. The taste is light and almost watery which is expected at the 4% abv. Not a bad beer, worth the try!
3.5 Bottle. Chocolate and earthy roasty malt aroma. Deep chestnut with a moderate tan head. Milk chocolate, coffee, and roasty flavor. Medium body, moderate carbonation. I’m rather impressed at the fullness of flavor out of a 4% ABV.
