Watou Tripel

Watou Tripel

Bottle conditioned.

Ingredients: Water, barley malt, sugar, hops, yeast.

The aroma of this beer is agreeably gentle and is carried by a discreet bitterness while the balance between the malt and hops relies on fruity accents and a lightly fresh aftertaste.

3.8 33cl bottle. Honey gold pour. Small creamy white head. Perfumy nose hints at yeast and honey. Flavor is green apple, pear and candied lemon. White pepper and cardamom in the dry finish.

3.7 330ml bottle from my folks’ trip to Belgium. Clear deep golden. Gluey and fruity aroma. Very soft body and with a bit of bitterness.
3.5 Bottle, bb 4/21. Pale amber with a dense white head that lasts very well. Aroma is pretty restrained with honeyed dough and spices. Medium bodied with high carbonation. Tastes much as it smells with almost sharp spicy bitter finish. Some fruit - apricot, nectarines, no citrus - but it's all a bit thwacked by the spicy end. Very much Westmalle territory.
3.7 0.33 l bottle from Angry Moose, Čakovec. Shared with Alex. Hazy golden, small off-white head. Aroma is yeasty, estery, fruity, pear, light malts, some alcohol, light pear brandy aroma. Peppery flavour, strong, balanced, not too sweet. Fruity, malty. Drinkable. Spicy finish. Nice one, slightly warming, calming and balanced.
5.0 Much sweeter than I thought Great flavor opening after first sip

3.7 Bottle, 0.33l. Hazy golden/orange pour, huge frothy white head. Long lasting, excellent retention. Lots of thick lacing on the glass. Nice on the nose, a bit on the sweet side, somewhat flowery with grassy wheat background. Medium body, soft carbonation. Smooth texture, really soft on the tongue, this one goes down nicely. Mild sweet taste with subtle alcohol bitterness in the background. Classic tripel aroma, yeasty, malty and herbal, mild spicy. Floral notes, somewhat strong wheat presence. Grassy. Subtle fruity touches. Surprisingly tamed alcohol, quite mild. Medium lasting finish, a bit dry with a touch of herbal spiciness. Pretty good tripel. Smooth and nicely balanced.
3.9 Bottle from Dranken Geers. Hazy orange golden with a large off white foam head which dissipates to nothing quickly. Nose is marmalade, orange peel, barley chaff, earthy, sticky orange and grapefruit, bread, baguette, apricot. Taste is apricot, earthy, bread, whit baguette, orange peel, barley chaff, hop bitter, floral.
3.6 Medium golden murky yeasty boozy head. Aromas yeasty, biscuit, grass, hay, light dark fruit ester. Flavors hay, grass, slight dark fruit, slight molasses, slight juniper, yeast, slight bread. medium sweet. On the lighter side for a triple, still very nice and refreshing.
3.2 Bottle 33 cl. Golden color, hazy, good white foam. Aroma: yeast, malt, a little pear, a little phenol. Taste: malty, sweetish, slightly light fruit, a bit alcoholic.
3.7 Golden pour with fluffy head. Smooth, yeasty tones with a soft banana sweet finish
3.8 Bottle. Hazy golden color with off-white head. Aroma has caramel, malt, hay. Flavors of caramel, malt, citrus, fruits, yeast and spices.
3.6 Bevuta in bottiglia ad una grigliata. CfgMpr
3.9 Flaske.
3.8 11.2 oz. bottle. Poured a golden hazy blonde with visible sediments swimming in the brew. Compared to the superior St. Bernardus Tripel, this one is less murky with fewer sediments visible. White foam whirlpool continued to churn long after pouring. Sweet floral aroma is not overpowering, characterized by biscuity sweetness and some floral hop notes. Big coriander, clove, herbs and spices in the palate. Medium mouthfeel. Not as bold or refined as the St. Bernardus Tripel, but a good recipe nonetheless.
3.8 From tap at Bar Bernatd at the rooftop of St. Bernardus brewery, Pours almost clear golden liquid, medium creamy white head, Aroma: very nice wheat aroma, spicy, belgian phenolic notes, hopy, herbal, Malty, Taste: medium sweet, medium bitter, light sour, sweetish, wheat malt, spicy, belgian phenolic notes, hopy, herbal, Palate: medium body, lively carbonation, thick to creamy mouthfeel, long wheat spicy bitter aftertaste, Overall: very good, enjoyed.
3.7 Pours somewhat hazy amber coloured, topped with a smaller offwhite head, not so lasting. Malty nose, pleasant biscuity notes, caramel and some hints of dry fruits. Mildly sweet upfront, biscuity mostly and some caramel presence. Gentle bitterness later on. Slightl peppery finish and gentle alcohol warmth. Nicely drinkable, medium body. I guess letting this one sit on the basement shelf for some time just improved it.
3.6 Bottle from 161 beer store - nearly 1 year old. pour is obviously unfiltered. same color as a hazy but more clear. lots of little carbonation to head that doesnt last. malt dominates throughout but usual banana and clove and even mild bubblegum in there. hops are there but stay in background. medium oily mouthfeel. decent but theres lots of better tripels out there.
3.6 0.33 bottle from Rimi craft beer stand. Smell - very weak, maybe some hop notes, nothing bad, but too unnoticeable. Foam - some carbonation and acidic feel for tongue at start, quickly disappears, not creamy. Taste - generally bitter, some carbonation for throat, little sweet aftertaste in mouth what later becomes little bitter in throat, not bad. Also nice bottlecap.
