A medium bodied, dark German lager style beer. Clean lager character with an aftertaste that

3.1 Bomber. Poured black with a thin tan head. Aroma and flavor are light roasted malt, low bitterness, some caramel. Lagered, slightly creamy, slightly buttery. Finishes dry. Solid schwartzbier.
3.0 Nice big tan head that sicks to the glass. Dark brown in color with aroma that is of a malty larger. Still a lite beer but has a lot of malt and lite coffee notes. The best of the weeping radish beers I have had.
3.0 Char nutty caramel smell. dark blackish red hue an okay head. Light smokey taste that leads to a pretty heavy caramel finish. Smooth on the palate. Not bad...
3.0 Aromas of hazelnut, butterscotch, redolent of a Werther’s Original caramel candy. Dark ruby with a moderately retaining, beige head. Dry with a buttery caramel flavor and a snappy, earthy hop flavor. Light-medium body, average carbonation, smooth and pretty clean in the finish.
3.6 The best effort from this brewery I have tried yet. About what I would expect from a shwartzbier. Pours a deep colour but somewhat trasnslucent. above average carbonation and a lacy white head that fades quickly. Taste is dark, chocolate, sweet but finishes with a distinctive lager-y taste. Some bitterness on the finish- ibu’s 27- on its way to being balanced. definitely lighter than the dark brews I have been partial to lately. sort of fitting as spring is around the corner......
3.6 Comes out of the bottle a bubbly, translucent mahogany with a thick and rather persistent pale tan head. Strong, malty aroma has smoky and dusty hops notes and a hint of caramel. Malty flavor has a firm note of woody hops, rather like hay, with a caramel touch. Texture has above average strength and fizz, leaving a malty and woody finish.
3.0 On draft at the brewery restaurant. Pours a clear dark cola with an off white head. Roasted coffee notes. A pretty decent beer.
2.7 Bomber. Smooth and clean. A little sweet and no bitterness. This would go well with some chocolate for dessert.
3.1 On tap. Dark brown pour with a thin tan head. Scent is sweet malts. Taste is sweet as well . Meh
3.6 Rated at Brew Bern 2012. This was a really interesting drink. Good level of bitterness to it that wasn’t overpowering. Slight roasted flavors provided a good complement to the beer.
3.2 Pours an opaque brown with tan head. Aroma of malts. Taste is interesting; sort of a bit vinegary, yet quite complex. Thanks Andy, thumbs up.
2.9 A decent dark lager. Bottle to glass. Bitter finish. Black pour with off white head. yeasty aroma with a little bit of roastiness
3.0 Tap at VA Beach Craft Beer Festival. Pours clear dark brown with a medium, fizzy light tan head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is chocolate and toast malt, light hops, and dark fruits (prune, raisin). Flavor is dark malt, light hops and bitterness, dark fruity esters and a dry finish. Medium body and carbonation, low warmth.
2.9 Bottle shared by Dean at the Rapture release. Poured a thinner looking chocolate brown body under a foamy light beige head. Aroma of dry chocolate, toast and bread. Thin body with strong carbonation and a watery feel overall. Flavor of watered down chocolate and grains. Meh.
3.0 Bottle from vacation in NC. Pours out a moderate hue of brown with a small white head. Aroma is of caramel, some light chocolate and a hint of some coffee grounds. Taste is much the same, caramel, light chocolate, coffee grounds, dark bread with a body that is about as light as the abv.
3.2 On tap at Fat Tony’s. this dark brown beer actually comes across much lighter. caramel and some Iron. Very nice malty beer. Not much head but it was served quite cold.
2.5 A clear dark brown lager with a thin moka head. In aroma, caramel malt, non descript. In mouth, a boring caramel nut malt, so-so. On tap at Twin City Brewfest, August 13 2011.
4.0 Special thanks to Ginny for bringing this gem back with her from vacation, and thanks to cheapdark for sharing this brew. Cheapdark summed it up, "Yummy" one of my favs. Smooth, medium bodied, well balanced dark larger. A definite must try, I would buy a case of this beer!
3.9 From a bomber courtesy of nike! From the beginning I knew this was going to be a good beer. It had a gentle aroma of mildy roasty dark american lager. It appeared to be brownish black at first but upon further inspection I see its more looking like root beer. Nice head on the pour. First taste is a little tart and reminds me of some wild beers I’ve had in the past, which is good from my point of view. Pleasant easy fun. Good smooth flow from lips to throat, yummy actually. A fine example of a gentle friendly dark american lager, but hey, now I see its actually under the dunkel style. Either one, dunkel or dark lager, this was a good beer to be remembered. Finish? What finsh? It was gone before I knew it! Yummy! Would LOVE to have this beer again. Lovely overall beer drinken experience. THANKS BRIAN! THIS BEER ROCKED! No sign of rude alky anytime during the session. When I think about good dark beer, I think of beer that comes across like this. I guess some thanks go out to Ginny as well!
3.1 Bottle. Maroonish brown, clear. Inoffensive, easy to drink lager that appears darker than most. Light body. Ordinary.
3.0 Roasted malt aroma with a reddish black color. Frothy creme colored head leads to a light sourness and sweetness on the front, finishing slightly sweeter. Medium body, slick texture, with a typical dunkel flavor. Solid offering, though not phenomenal. Would definitely drink again.
3.0 Dark brown pour beige head ... aroma of sweet malts and light roasted malt ..... very sweet taste with a sweet and roasted malt taste light bitter hop and a little sour
3.3 THOUGHTS: Nice beer. A little more sour than I was expecting, but it was just enough to make it interesting. TECHNICAL: My bottle said it was 5.3% ABV. Bottle. Poured a Very dark brownish red that was nearly brown in the glass with a small to average, tan head that just about fully diminished and left virtually no lacing. The aroma had light to moderate, roasted malt, sour dough bread; a slight hind of chocolate and coffee; light earthy hops; and a little sour fruit. The initial flavor was slightly sweet, fairly sour and lightly bitter; while the finish was fairly sweet, light to moderately sour and moderately bitter. There was sour malt, roasted malt, hops, a bit of sour fruit, dark bread, a little ry and pumpernickel bread, hints of coffee and then toward the end was grain. The light to medium body was a little oily and then a bit dry with rather fizzy carbonation and a slightly metallic finish.
3.1 From a bottle poured a brown color with a small amount of head. Nice sweet malty flavor with a quick finish.
3.1 Bottle sample at the Front Porch tasting. Clear brown pour with a thin beige head. Caramel malt nose without much else. Caramel and dark malt flavor with a light amount of hop and some lager yeast.
2.9 Draft at VABF10: Barley rich nose, with subtle nuttiness. Clear mahogany, thin yellow head. Roasted malt and chestnut flavor. Sessionable, yet lacking in flavor.
1.9 Sample at the "Beer Tasting on the Front Porch". Pours dark brown with reddish highlights. Medium light tan head that recedes to a film eventually, and spotty lacing. Aroma of sour fruit and malt. Medium body with a tart mouth-puckering fruit flavor along with some earthy malt. The finish is fruity with a yeast and sour fruit aftertaste. Not sure what is going on with this one but it is not enjoyable.
3.4 Big Bottle, 3.99, Wine Warehouse, Charlottesville. Pours brown with a light tan frothy rootbeer-float head. Smells nutty, light grassiness, light leafiness. Tasty - nut brown flavor. Lighty sweet up front with a light bitter finish. Session beer!
2.8 dark pour with some foam smokey nose and malts. smoke continues into the flavor with some sweeter malts. not much mouthfeel but refreshing with a dry finish
2.4 12oz bottle. Pours a dark brownish black with little head. Smells funky with some roasty undertones. Very lite malty taste with hints of coffee or carmel. A strange bitter flavor throughout. The mouthfeel was light and crisp.
