Weihenstephaner Infinium

Weihenstephaner Infinium

Over 1000 years of brewery experience together with American innovation, two years of development and the four ingredients malt, hops, water, and yeast resulted in a new dimension of the art of brewing and in an innovative, ground-breaking beer: Infinium. The sparkling beer is complex, unique in taste and produced strictly according to the German purity law. This sparkling beer is dry and strong in taste despite the more the 10 percent by volume alcohol and unsettles preconceived opinion about the limits of the German purity law. The strong, deep golden beer will enter the market in noble, corked, 0.75 liter bottles.
The joint venture of Weihenstephan and Samuel Adams unites a new way of thinking about the world of the American extreme.

4.3 2010 Vintage: Pours a semi-opaque bronze with a thick white head that leaves lots of lacing. Nose is slightly citrus. Palate is medium body. Taste is citrus, dry with no mal. Although, there was a very slight maltiness upon first taste that disappears on subsequent pourings. This bottle was stored for five years as a champagne, i.e. on its side at cellar temperature. No oxidation, no off flavors. Served in a pilsner glass. This beer has changed since it was released. There is now sediment and a haze. No banana nor maltiness remain making it what it was originally designed to be: "The Champagne of Bottled Beer". See below for first review. Pours a thick white head that slowly dissipates leaving sheet lacing that clings to the glass, a crystal rimless wine glass. The bubbles are champagne-like - tiny bubbles (to the tune of the song) that remain throughout the glass. The color is translucent slightly burnished brass matching the label. A slight swirl opens up the nose revealing malt and citrus. The taste is an attenuated malty sweetness with a hint of banana in a medium body followed by a dry finish. Enjoyed on the Celebration of the Birth of Jesus, the Messiah.
3.6 BB May 2014. Huge gusher, beautiful copper color with a head that goes down quickly. Aroma is oxidized, booze, candied sugar. Taste is also oxidized with candied sugar and booze, biscuity, high carbonation. Full-bodied and sweet, nothing like a Sekt. Held up well!
3.5 Bottle at home. Pours golden amber, nose is citrus, yeasty, taste is quite sweet, juicy citrus, little fizzy.
3.6 Klares gold mit durchschnittlicher Schaumkrone. Malzig, reichlich süß, Kekse, fruchtig, spritzig, erinnert mich ein wenig an Sekt.
3.4 Botella de 75 cl tomada en varias ocasiones la última en el Lupulo en mayo 2011. (r619). Lote 07..10..10 hasta 07..10..11 sabores alcohólicos e intensos con cuerpo algo pastoso. Buena.
2.9 Golden color with a huge and fluffy with a slightly off-white head. Aroma is fruity with alcohol notes. Flavor is also very alcoholic, some notes of yeast and malt. High carbonation and light to medium body with a dry alcoholic finish. I was expecting more form this beer.
2.7 malty disaster on train tracks tons of bready malt. Wow. Not balanced and not good. Amazing that top two quality breweries would produce this.
3.6 Pours light brown, almost transparent, bit of white foam. Aroma is sweetly sticky, some medicinal character to it. Taste is sweet as well, strength does come though with some warm sensation from alcohol. Overall, feels a bit too sweet, body could be more firm. Interesting beer to try though!
4.1 In Finnish: Jaettu pullo Kaislassa. Kultainen väri, valkoinen pieni kuplainen vaahto, joka jää lasin pinnalle kauniiksi Belgialaiseksi pitsiksi. Lähinnä trippel tyyliä. Shampanjamainen, poreileva, alkoholi ei maistu lainkaan vaikka vahva. Heinänen, maanläheinen, hedelmäinen.
3.1 A hansom bottle opened with a nice sound, a beer is dark yellow, a head is big and blond. Aroma is fruitful, grainy maltyness, some aromatic flowers, also citrusfruits. Taste has grain and malts, overriped fruits, hint of alcohol. Medium bodied, strong carbonation. The big disappointment from the great brewers.
4.2 Golden yellow looks, really nice head on top and magnificent lacing. Beautiful beer. Aroma has cream, some malts and Belgian yeast. Taste ha lots of malts, some strange milk or cream, yeast and some sweet fruits. Full taste and medium carbonation. A bit strange beer but I liked the flavours.
4.4 Drinking this in the afternoon sun, which gives a gorgeous look. Sophisticated aroma. Taste is mature. Like a fine lady. Gentle, but strong body. Oh, lovely. I’d serve this instead of champagne. Biscuits.
3.3 75cl bottle at home. Clear golden with a full white soapy head. Medium to full body with quite some carbonation. Lots of malty sweetness with some bitter tones. Malts, caramel, fruits, biscuit and spices. This was somehow more an imperial pilsner then a Belgian Strong Ale. Altough it was tasty I’ve expected more from this.
3.4 750ml corked bottle served in a chalice glass. A: Pours a clear golden yellow color forming a big bubbled and fizzy white head. Medium retention and some soapy lacings left in the glass. S: Sweet nose. Strong notes of sweet pale malts and honey. Fruity notes of pear and peach. Caramel and yest. Flowery and a bit citruses hops. A bit boozy and metallic. Bready yeast notes. T: Follows the nose. Sweet upfront. Strong notes of sweet pale malts, caramel and honey. Fruity notes of pear and peach. Orange zest. Light sweet finish. Light hops bitterness. A bit boozy mouth too. Quite bready for an ale. M: Heavy creamy and molasses body. Strong carbonation. Honey and bread in the aftertaste. O: Medium drinkability. A good beer. Nothing compared with the "regular" Weihenstephaners.
1.4 For this highly priced beer specialty, I expected a better product. I’ ve tasted Belgian beers which only cost a fraction of this so- called specialty. A hint of mould, combined with a muddy appearance. Thumbs down on this!
2.3 Vielen Dank an Martin. Das Bier ist süßlich-scharf, leicht süßlich, etwas klebrig und recht herb-scharf. Unrund, nicht zu süffig. Irgendwie enttäuschend. Vor allem für den Preis...
4.2 A bright orange-brown coloured beer with a frothy white head. A strong winey aroma along with meaty, caramel, bready, plus a zesty fruitiness. Medium-dry mouthfeel. The taste follows on from the aroma, mouth tingling winey and fruity zestiness is then mellowed by a bready, caramel flavour, that is bolstered by a background meatiness. The finish is long and flavourful.
3.0 cereal and some hop aroma; golden bright color; taste not impressive; lots of carbonation (1/3 of the bottle explode out). I was expecting more.
3.1 Bottle with SED and KMD. Hazy orange with a large head. Aroma is belgian wheat. Flavour is sweet biscuit, yeasty and tangy. Wheaty sweet alco finish
3.2 Bottle, 750mL. Home. A golden orange beer with many bubbles. Big off-white head with a great retention. Aroma of caramel, sugary fruit, roast, spices, light biscuit. Medium warming sweet, light lasting bitter then warming again. Full body, oily texture, good carbonation, sweet warming finish and light herbal bitter. Overall, beautiful bottle and beer, average aroma, too sweet, nearly nauseating. Disappointed. Too expensive for this.
4.0 Rated based on notes taken 8 Oct 2011 -- One year old 2010 vintage, drank with my two sisters and my girlfriend (at the time) in memorium of my civilian life and in celebration of my military life. A very nice champagne-like beer, perfect for the occasion.
3.5 750 ml bottle to snifter (2010 or 2011 vintage; shared by Tmoney99). Looks good; a hazy apricot with white head. Smells of Belgian yeast and fruit with a mild semi-sweet backbone. Sparkly with a medium-bodied mouthfeel. Some light apple. Enjoyable.
3.0 Bottled Nov 2012, 750ml cork and cage. Clear pinky dark red, sparkling, big foamy cream head. Aroma is cookie, yeasty. Body is medium, very foamy, lowish carbonation. Taste is sweet, biscuity, some tangy alcohol. Sweet and malty with a crisp finish. Still drinking OK, but clearly past its best now.
4.2 "listed as a dopplebock here but does not resemble one in color, body, aroma, or flavor. BA lists it as something like biere de champagne...whatever the hell that is! anyway, this was a beer that came with hype and a hefty pricetag. the consensus was...not a $20 beer, but not many are. that being said, i really liked it. it was unique in every aspect. the aroma and flavor were like a blend of banana beer and champagne, with some buttery soft chardonnay crap going on as it warmed. i think my wine drinking wife and mominlaw will love this beer. another forte is that i didn’t know this beer was OVER 10% til after it was gone. i’ve had beers that mask the alcohol well, but never anything even approaching this. i’d have beleived it was 3-4% before 10.5 if i haddn’t seen it on the bottle."
2.8 The body has a clear orange amber body with tons of effervescent carbonation rushing up to the bright white head. The head is tall and lightly packed with tiny loosely packed bubbles that settle quickly. It looks very much like champagne but with a much deeper colored body. The first thing that hit me was a wave of heavy alcohol, which I was not expecting. I knew it was 10.3% but it just hit me with a brandy or cognac like boozy character with some fruity white grape, caramel/candy covered apple and light banana notes. I also get some spicy and dry dusty basement like yeast notes in the nose as well. It starts with a big boozy malty sweetness. There are notes of boozy grapes, caramel and sweet red apple inside the maltiness with some very mellow hops creeping in. They bring some light citrus and slight herbal, grassy, almost mint like hop notes to the party. The hops however, offer very little to balance the malt sweetness and it becomes cloying after a few sips. The mouth feel is a bit heavier than I was expecting but bubbly. The carbonation keeps the palate from getting sticky but I still fined it uneasy to drink.
3.2 Orange color with medium head. Very malty and fruity taste. Some sour taste. Good and special, but not as good as expected.
2.8 This review is a warning not to get too excited about a fancy bottle. The big seller here was "over 1000 years of brewery experience together with American innovation", not to mention "two years of development". The nose was bready, herby, lightly sweet and sour with a bit of yeasty marmite. The beer was a clear amber, well carbonated and the cork flew off. The taste of this ale was creamy, slightly metallic with a bittersweet finish, it was meant to be complex and unique but was just a bit weird. Overall, it was incredibly average for the price.
3.8 Nice bottle. Clear golden color with enourmous head. Aroma is yeast and malt. Flavor is yeast, malt, sweet.
