Weihenstephaner Kristallweizenbock

Weihenstephaner Kristallweizenbock

For our Kristallweizenbock we were trying to combine various hop sorts offering distinctive aroma notes that
are pairing well with the aroma coming from our signature yeast W68 and at the same time build a bridge to the Crystal (Kristall) as the hop varieties used for 2nd and 3rd hop addition, Opal, Smaragd (Emerald) and Saphir (Sapphire) are each either crystals or crystalline minerals. The hop bouquet in this brew is rounded off by Hallertauer Perle being used as bittering hop during the first hop addition.

4.4 330ml bottle, many thanks to Koelschtrinker for this! Pours clear gold, large fluffy white head. Aroma has great weiss yeast aromatics. Taste is similarly more yeasty than expected. Good banana, cream, vanilla action nice and smooth on the palette. An excellent, flavoursome clear weizenbock.
3.6 Bottle. Clear straw yellow, with a big white head. Banana, green apples, cloves, fermenting pear, grass. Medium sweetness, some sour notes, long and tart finish with light bitterness. Surprisingly creamy body with that brilliant Weihenstephaner carbonation. Look at it - and then, quickly, throw your expectations overboard. What looks like a Helles smells like a hoppy mix of green hop lager and Weizen yeast. An odd mix. But somehow still charming.
2.8 “Weihenstephaner Kristall-Weizenbock“, Flasche (33 cl) von Getränke Hoffmann, Berlin. - Tief goldgelb, blank, feiner Schaum. - In der Nase breites helles Malz mit parfümierter, leicht fuseliger Obergärigkeit und knackigem Hopfen: Kräuter, Pampelmuse, Rhabarber. - Antrunk satt weizenbierig-hellmalzig mit gerstiger Härte, Kandiszuckersüße und Leere dort, wo man die weizentypische Hefe erwartet. Knackiger Hopfen mit unreifer Frucht reibt sich heftig an der glatten, süßen Malzfülle. Mild rezent, breit, Anklänge an Kräuterlikör. Im Abgang Rhabarber und “grüne“ Hopfenherbe. - Eigenwillige Kombination von schwerer Malzfülle, obergäriger Duftigkeit und adstringierender Hopfung, die mich nicht ganz überzeugt. Vielleicht zu glatt? Aber unbedingt probierenswert!
3.3 100 ml taster at home, courtesy of Werckmeister - 330 ml bottle, bb 08.03.208 - many thanks. Pours a clear golden with a small white head. The aroma is relatively fruity with overripe pears, apples, dried fruits, dried apples along with some caramel and honey. Medium to full body with a soft carbonation a medium sweetness and a light to medium bitterness. Flavor of honey, ripe fruits, pear, caramel, fruity yeasty notes, quite sweet. In the finish the wheat comes through along with some herbal, bitter hoppy notes. Aroma: 7 Appearance: 3 Taste: 7 Palate: 3 Overall 13
3.4 Home. 33 cl B. BB 08.02.18. A very good white foam layer on a clear yellow beer. Aroma of malt (light bread-like), Some fruity and floral (banana, clove) and some hop bitter. Taste is somewhat sweet, light malty. Yellow fruit (banana, mandarin), some clove. In the aftertaste also a grass-like hop bitter. Light alcoholic. Sticky. Full body.
3.8 Beer #2 of 17 for each day of the 2018 Winter Olympics - One for A Country Participating in the Games: #2 - Deutschland (Germany) Crystal clear (oh, is that what Kristall means?) golden coloured body with a large, soapy white head, that starts at about five centimetres tall and dies down to just a single centimetre. Aroma of fresh bread, pungent yeast, a lot of coriander seed, some bubblegum, a touch of citrus and oranges and a light hint of nutmeg and perfumey spices. Light to Medium-bodied; Assertive yeast element at first with a big coriander seed and wheat profile with a nice bubble gum and light spice flavour and a light note of white pepper and grass at the tail end. Aftertaste shows some of the grass, clean sugars,a touch of alcohol and ending with a pleasant and lightly earthy malt flavour with the wheat showing strongest. Overall, a very nice weizenbock with a great, simplistic flavour with a little spicey quality from the yeast strain, but a relatively sweet and fruity flavour with smooth flavours and a robust, but easy-drinking complexity at the end with some very light alcohol flavours at the tail end. I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased from Whole Foods in New York (Columbus Circle/Central Park), New York on 11-June-2017 for US$2,99 sampled at home in Washington on Day #2 of the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, [Republic of/South] Korea on 10-February-2018.
3.5 0,33l bottle at home. BB 08.03.2018. golden clear shiny color, small white head. smells bit musty, ripe fruits, caramel, flowery, light honey. nice smell. full body, soft bit light carbonation, slick mouthfeel. tastes of caramel, honey, hints of yeast, ripe fruits, lightly flowery. finishes light to medium sweet with tnotes of honey, caramel and ripe fruits. overall rather decent for a kristall weizen, rather on the sweet side but still quite nice.
Dazu herbe Hefearomen, Muskat. Ziemlich süss und schwer. Ist nicht so mein Bier.
3.7 Clean, golden color. Huge, white head. Aroma of wheat malt , banana and yeasts. Sweet malty taste with light bitterness for balance. Interesting variation of weizen.
3.7 11.2oz bottle - excited about this. Nose is wild fields and hay. Sip is sweet and metallic but the flavor adds hoppy qualities I'm not used to for the style. Not familiar with this take on weizenbocks but makes me think of a weizenbock I could drink in the Summer.
3.4 Bottle, stable long lasting bubbly head, clear deep golden color aroma of wheat and banana with hints of citrus and metal, flavor of wheat, waffle and banana with hints of toothpaste and metal, lightish sweetness, light lingering fruity aftertaste. Nice and enjoyable.
3.2 Bottle. Clear golden with a big foamy head. Smell of banana, fruity esters, light spicy notes. Sweetish, overripe fruits, banana, light sourish flavors , mild bitterness, dry finish. Medium bodied , lively carbonation.
3.5 Bottle picked up at Cappys from notes. Pours a clear pale golden color with a large white head that settled quickly. The aroma and flavor have pale wheat malts, crystal malts, banana, light spices, cloves, yeast, good for the style but not something I would revisit.
3.2 Bottle. Thanks Yoav. Clear pale golden with big bubbly white head. The aroma has notes of bubblegum, banana, wheat, flowers and yeasts. Bitter flavor, quite alcoholic with notes of bubblegum, wheat, banana, somewhat soapy. Slightly dry, light to medium-bodied.
4.6 330ml bottle poured into the Breweries stemmed glass for this exact beer. Clear gold with lively carbonation. Aroma of wheat malt and some yeast. Medium body with a soft mouthfeel with some hop bitterness. Nice clean finish. I feel fortunate to have found this special release with the glassware to rate here.

Malzig, fruchtig, feine Zitrusaromen, reichlich reife Bananen, fruchtig, würzig, spritzig.
3.1 Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a clear bright golden color with a small foamy white head that left minimal lacing. The aroma was sweet and yeasty with cracker, a bit of pepper and some mustiness. The flavor was musty and yeasty with notes of cracker and bread. Long finish. Medium body. Ok but so much less than their regular weizenbock.
3.5 Bottle pour into shaker pint glass from The Beer Store, Nashua. Appearance is clear highlighter yellow with fair sparkle, 1/2-finger width fizzy white head with poor retention and minimal lacing. Aroma is wheat, banana, bubblegum, yeast. Taste is spicy, tart wheat, yeast, light banana/bubblegum. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with frothy texture, lively carbonation and dry finish as taste. Overall, all the elements of the style. Nice.

3.1 Flaska. Klar guldfärgad med ett vitt skum. Dofter av banan och örter. Smakinslag av banan, lim och örter. Tung i smaken, fyllig kropp, alkohol och sötma i avslutningen.
3.1 Smell of yeast, some banana, dough. Golden colour, high white head. Aroma of banana, overripe apples, alcohol, grain. Sweet with some sourness. Lively carbon. Basically fine, but a weizen just needs the yeast.
3.9 330 ml bottle purchsed from Lifesource Natural Grocer in Salem OR $2.09 Pours a slightly hazy, dull yellow with a small splotchy white head. Pleasing aromas of creamy caramel malts, banana, bread and spice. LOvely rounded taste with all the aspects above plus a bit of juicy hop. Excellent. Great mouth feel well carbonated yet soft palate. Very nice beer. Enjoyed in cold rainy weather.
3.9 Nødingen Pub 131017. Golden -orange color with an off-white head. Aroma is oranges, caramel, wheat. Flavor is oranges, caramel, wheat, banana, cloves, apple, bread. Very easy drinkable beer.
3.5 bottle. Amber with one finger head. Moderately sweet. Banana and clove, some other mild spicing. Slightly yeasty, and mild heat from the ABV. Quite flavorful.
3.7 Bottle in Seattle. Thanks Andrew for finding me a bottle. Thick, fluffy white head on a crystal clear (bah..) light yellow body. Herb and banana on nose, fairly thick, with rounder bread notes. Full, creamy sip with moderate carbonation. Typical weizenbock richness and alcohol profile. Nice.
3.4 Bottle from BevMo. Clear light golden in color. Strong yeasty nose. Some graininess and a hint of alcohol. Smells like a tripel. Yeasty up front. Some sweetness followed by a grainy bitterness. Drinkable. A little more booze than I'd like.
4.1 Bottle at home. Bright golden color, very good white head. The abv is 7,5%, but from the tasting it seems only about 5%. Good taste, like this one very much!
